Robert De Niro made an unforgettable appearance at the Tony Awards ceremony at the Radio City Musical Hall this Sunday.

The legendary Taxi Driver actor stood in front of the large audience and shouted for everyone to hear “I’m gonna say one thing: F-k Trump.”

His statement was welcomed with bursts of applauses that lasted for about a minute until the crowd could calm down.

The original purpose of De Niro’s presence on stage was for him to introduce the arrival of Bruce Springsteen, who appeared shortly and performed the hit song “My Hometown” accompanied by a piano.

Even though the broadcasters censored the actor’s statement, his words quickly found their way to social media as many fans from the crowd recorded him.

Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles, who were acting as hosts for the event, tried to cover up De Niro’s unplanned outburst by showing up on the stage in exchanged outfits at the first possible moment.

Groban justified their extraordinary act by explaining that they were told by CBS to do something extreme in the spur of the moment so that the actor’s words could be quickly forgotten.

Despite all obstacles, the new winners of the awards were announced afterward.

The British Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the American musical The Band’s Visit were among the most impressive titles that received awards at the event.

The two-part sequel about the adventures of Harry Potter received six awards, whereas The Band’s Visit managed to grab 7.

An especially touching moment of the ceremony was when the brave drama teacher Melody Herzfeld was honored with the Excellence in Theater Education prize.

The heroic educator saved the lives of dozens of her students during the infamous shooting that happened on February 14 at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Florida.

The ratings for the show went up a bit this year, unlike other awards.
