The King’s Cautious Reconciliation: Charles Meets Harry, Then Hits Pause
King Charles is described as somewhat blasé and disillusioned about his meeting with Prince Harry that took place in early September. These feelings have pushed him to do a quick reversal.
After much reflection, King Charles has signaled that Prince Harry will be allowed back in his life, but only on a “piecemeal” basis. Prince Harry and his wife were hoping for a different outcome.
Emotional Reunion and Family Gifts
Prince Harry was welcomed back to Windsor Castle. While having tea and cake, their conversation was emotional, serving as a walk down memory lane.
King Charles and Prince Harry decided to focus on happy topics, namely the King’s grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Prince Harry was delighted to give his father updates, sharing milestones about the children and their happy life in California.
A representative for Prince Harry was compelled to confirm that gifts had been exchanged. The spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE magazine that, “While we would have preferred such details to remain private, for the sake of clarity, we can confirm that a framed photograph was handed over; however, the image did not contain the Duke and Duchess,” implying the picture was of Archie and Lilibet.
Prince Harry was highly satisfied with the visit, rushing to chat with multiple reporters and members of the British public afterward.
In an interview with The Guardian, Prince Harry said immediately after meeting his father that “the focus really has to be on my dad,” and that he loved being back in the UK.
The Trust Test: A Holiday Invitation Withheld
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had high hopes for what would follow, anticipating more exchanges and, eventually, that long-awaited invitation to spend the Christmas holiday with the rest of the Royal Family at Sandringham.
However, King Charles has come down from the high of seeing his son after almost two years and has done his due diligence, deeming that more time is needed before he can fully embrace his son and grant the level of trust he is seeking.
The King believes things are moving too fast and too soon and has therefore hit pause on seeing his son for the holidays. He is uncertain that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would not spill details about the gathering to the media or include them in another book.
Confidentiality Concerns Scuttle Christmas Plans
A royal source speaking to the Daily Mail explained that, in the eyes of the Palace, Prince Harry has not entirely proven himself worthy of the trust he is asking for.
Prince Harry, aware that his father, who is battling cancer, has a strong desire to keep the meeting details private, made the unwise decision to sit down for an interview with The Guardian just before traveling to Ukraine.
During the conversation with the news outlet, Prince Harry confirmed the reunion and publicly discussed his desire for reconciliation. This swift return to public commentary is believed to be the final factor that led King Charles to keep the Sussexes off the Christmas guest list for the time being.
