Supermodel and mother of one Gigi Hadid has spoken out about her emotional and well-earned return to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show after a long hiatus. In a recent video posted by the lingerie company, Hadid became visibly emotional as she discussed her journey back to the iconic runway.
A Dream Come True
Hadid first walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2015. She explained in the interview that being booked for the show was a “dream come true,” especially after being rejected once or twice in previous years. When she finally got the call back, it was deeply heartwarming for her and the inner teenager who hoped to accomplish that major goal. A decade later, she realized that walking for Victoria’s Secret was truly the spectacle she had always dreamed of.
“I think I tried out two or three times before I got it, so you can imagine when I felt when I got my first show,” she said.
Hadid wept and added “I’m just so happy for her. She just wanted it so bad… I look back at pictures of that time and the world was so hard on her, and not just me, is hard on girls.”
Hadid described the experience, saying that walking on the runway for Victoria’s Secret was an incredible time, and she felt that she deserved to be there because she was willing to put all of herself into the performance. She recalled watching the shows as a teenager, always hoping she would eventually make it.
She claimed: “That was an awesome time. I deserved to be there and to continue to come back to this show. I’m just so happy for that girl that got the first show, and also my teenage self who watched the show.”
The Motherhood Perspective
Now 30 years old and a mother, Hadid shares her daughter, Khai, with ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik. She revealed that motherhood has given her a new outlook on the job, making the experience vastly different.
She explained that she is more excited than ever to share all the glamorous, exciting, and sparkly fun parts of the job with her daughter, who, surprisingly, already loves the costumes. Hadid also revealed that even after a decade of walking for Victoria’s Secret, her heart still beats very fast every time she steps onto the runway.
She said: “Having a child makes you experience everything in life differently.This is most glamorous, exciting, sparkly, fun, pink version of my job. This, to me, is the most exciting thing to tell Khai about. She’s just as excited about all the costumes as me.”
Gigi added: “The VS show is one of those things that still makes my heart beat really fast.”

Over the years on the Victoria’s Secret runway, Gigi Hadid has had some extraordinary moments:
* 2016: She earned her coveted Dark Angel wings for the first time. This was also a special year as her younger sister, Bella Hadid, joined her on the stage.
* 2018: She was able to walk the runway alongside her best friend, fellow supermodel Kendall Jenner.
