It is not rare to hear horror stories about entire families getting murdered by one of their own members, and unfortunately, this one seems to follow that notion quite closely.

A 33-year old father, Christopher Lee Watts, apparently snapped and took the lives of his own two daughters — Bella and Celeste Watts — as well as his pregnant wife, Shanann Watts, who was soon going to reveal the baby’s gender to him in a special announcement.

The bodies were discovered in an oil field which was Christopher’s place of work, and initial investigations revealed that they had been strangled.

Watts is looking at life in prison the investigation for the murders.

His lawyer requested a DNA test for the necks of the victims because he blames his wife for strangling the children.

Things are looking pretty grim for Watts by all accounts, and it seems like he is not going to be able to evade harsh sentencing, as most of the facts allegedly point towards him.

There were also reports that prosecutors might seek the death penalty, something that is rarely handed down in the state of Colorado, where only one prisoner has been executed in the last 50 years.

During courthouse proceedings last week, Weld County District Judge Marcelo A. Kopcow said, “On or about Aug. 13, 2018, Christopher Lee Watts unlawfully, feloniously, after deliberation, and with the intent to cause the death of a person other than himself, caused the death of Shanann Watts.”

Commenters are saying that while chances are slim, it’s still possible that the system might decide to come down with full force on Christopher due to the vicious nature of the crime, and the overall sensitive state of society in recent times.

The funeral for the mother and her two daughters is set for Saturday in North Carolina, their home state.

It will take place at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Pinehurst at 11 a.m. Mountain time.
