100 Foot Bratwurst

100-foot bratwurst, 50 people, Illinois, if you guessed Oktoberfest then you are right. More than 50 people lined up behind a very long metal trough to grill a 100-foot bratwurst. The volunteers were practicing for the main event – find a way to cook a 200-foot bratwurst on September 21. Before you even ask, the answer is yes, there will be a 100-foot bun for the 100-foot bratwurst.

A 100-foot bratwurst being grilled by more than 50 people, that was the surprising scene in front of The Silver Creek Saloon and Grill located on 2520 Mascoutah Ave, Belleville, Illinois on Tuesday.

Larry Schubert who made the impressive 100-foot bratwurst, walked behind his mini-army of amateur chefs with a megaphone to guide them as they tried to grill the sausage.

The 50 people, wearing gloves lined up behind a one-of-a-kind 100-foot-long metal trough that was made by Bel-O Cooling and Heating to rotate the long German sausage at the same time.

The goal was to grill the 100-foot bratwurst without breaking or burning it. The long wiener, is not only mouth watering good, it is also very healthy.

The 100-foot long bratwurst was made by Schubert with 60 pounds of 100% gluten-free lean pork. The grilling went on without a glitch, according to one of the organizers of the event. Bob Fritz, of the Robert “Chick” Fritz beer distributor company said:

“They did good; they did real good. There were no erratic movements.”

Last month, the group tried cooking a 50-foot bratwurst and it burned and broke.

The organizers learned from their mistakes, and on Tuesday they found a grill that was less hot and asked the volunteers to rotate the sausage at a slower paste.

The grilling of the 100-foot bratwurst this week was really about practicing.

The volunteers hope to successfully grill a 200-foot bratwurst on September 21st during The Bicentennial Oktoberfest Weekend Celebration set from September 19 through 21 in Belleville.

A local bakery will be providing the 200-foot bun for the giant bratwurst. Those who want a piece of the 200-foot bratwurst will have to make a small donation.

Below is an amazing clip of the 100-foot bratwurst being cooked, listen well for hilarious comments like “we need a band-aid” and “give me back my big sausage” on the background.
