A Food Network Star contestant is dead and the suspect is charged with three very serious crimes. On March 15th, Joseph “J.T.” Codd, 45, and his wife, Cristie Schoen Codd, 38, who was pregnant, were reported missing and had vanished from their North Carolina home.

The police had been actively searching for the couple. On March 17th, local police issued a statement that revealed Robert Jason Owens, who lived just miles from the Codds, had been arrested.

Owens, who owns a construction company, had done some work at the Codds’ mansion. Owens broke into the couple’s home, stole few items including a laptop, a Glock handgun valued at $1,500 and jewelries.

The authorities would not give many details, but it’s clear that something went terribly wrong during the home invasion, which lead to the deaths of Mr and Mrs Codd and their unborn baby.

Owens has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of murder of an unborn child, breaking and entering, and larceny. Cristie Codd, who was a competitor on Season 8 of Food Network Star, was set to begin filming a movie in Biloxi, Mississippi. Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan revealed that the pair was murdered on the 12th of March and added:

“Owens faces three Class A felony murder charges in the case, with each carrying a maximum penalty of death or life in prison without the possibility of parole. He also faces charges for breaking and entering, and larceny after breaking and entering, with each of those charges carrying a maximum penalty of 39 months in prison.”

Buncombe County District Attorney Todd Williams stated that Owens “is charged with three very serious crimes” and he might pursue the death penalty. According to Duncan, Owens is also linked to a 2000 cold case.

It is believed that the alleged killer of the Food Network Star contestant was behind the disappearance and murder of an Asheville teenager named Zeb Quinn. The 18-year-old teen, who vanished on January 2, 2000, worked at Walmart on Hendersonville Road with Owens.

Owens was the last person to speak with Quinn in the Walmart parking lot that evening. Food Network Star contestant’s murder suspect gets charged, friends and family are now demanding justice.
