11-year-old’s $1,300 cab ride from Arkansas to Florida is making headlines. On December 5th, Alex Waller, an 11-year-old girl from Arkansas took the decision to travel to Florida to see a 16-year-old boy she met in 2012.

Waller met the teenager when she was vacationing with her family in the Sunshine State and they have stayed in contact via the internet. The 11-year-old girl stole $10,000 that her grandmother had hidden in a sock drawer.

She left her family’s Bryant, Arkansas home in the middle of the night and hitched a ride with a random stranger, who dropped her at a gas station in Little Rock.

While at the gas station, she called a cab company and asked for a driver to take her to Jacksonville, Florida. The 11-year-old child wore heavy makeup to appear older, which would explain why the cab driver failed to notice anything suspicious.

The driver asked her if she had enough money for the $1,300 cab ride, she said yes, and they drove off. When the family went to wake Alex Waller up for school, they discovered that she had vanished, and they assumed that she had been kidnapped.

They immediately called the Bryant Police that worked with Arkansas State Police and issued an Amber Alert. The authorities rapidly traced Waller’s call to the cab company and contacted the driver, who told them that the child was just outside Atlanta, Georgia.

The family drove 9 hours to pick up the 11-year-old girl. Brent Waller, Alexis’ father, told local media:

“You always just think the worst. I just thought some guy had come and scooped her up.”

He went on to add that he is just happy to have her home safe and sound. Waller added that he has the rest of his life to punish her, but right now, he plans to love her a bit more.

Nonetheless, they have taken away her phone and makeup. As for the taxi driver, he will not be charged because he was not aware of Waller’s age.

The family has started monitoring Alexis’ activities on the internet and are hoping to have a law passed that will make it illegal for cab drivers to take minor passengers.
