Tukwila named most dangerous city in America

Tukwila was named the most dangerous city in America. Tukwila, which is located in Washington, was previously number 2 on SafeWise’s annual 30 Most Dangerous Cities in America list, but took the not so flattering top spot after data showed that there were 8.18 violent crimes per 1,000 people and 165.75 property crimes per 1,000 residents.

Tukwila has been named the most dangerous city in America by SafeWise.

SafeWise, the self-proclaimed “authority on home safety and security news,” released its annual 30 Most Dangerous Cities in America list, and sadly for the 19,920 people living in Tukwila, their suburban city went from number 2 to number 1.

Tukwila, also known as Hazelnut City, is located in King County, Washington, United States and is famous for its hazelnut trees, the Black and Duwamish Rivers and data centers for Microsoft and Internap. More on the 9.58 square mile city:

“The northern edge of Tukwila borders the city of Seattle.The City of Tukwila is a community of communities: residents of many diverse origins make Tukwila their home, a large commercial center draws workers and consumers to the city daily, and industry thrives with the confluence of rivers, freeways, railroads, and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The racial makeup of the city was 43.9% White, 17.9% African American, 1.1% Native American, 19.0% Asian, 2.8% Pacific Islander, 9.3% from other races, and 6.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 17.5% of the population.The median income for a household is $40,718, and the median income for a family of $42,442. Males had a median income of $35,525 versus $28,913 for females. The per capita income for the city was $22,354. About 8.8% of families and 12.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 18.0% of those under age 18 and 7.7% of those ages 65 or over.”

SafeWise gathered the most recent data from the Uniform Crime Report statistics compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to rank the 30 cities.

According to the FBI report, in 2014, there were 8.18 violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) per 1,000 residents in Tukwila and 165.75 property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people.

In 2012, there were 200 violent crimes and 3,161 property crimes in Tukwila. Of these, the violent crimes consisted of two murders, 20 forcible rapes, 98 robberies, and 80 aggravated assaults, while 282 burglaries, 2,493 larceny-thefts, 386 motor vehicle thefts and six arson defined the property offenses.
