Safyre Terry, 8, Has Simple Christmas Wish

Safyre Terry, a bright and beautiful 8-year-old girl, who lost her entire family in a fire, has a simple request for Christmas – she is hoping that you will mail her a card with few kind words written inside. Little Safyre, who was severely burned in the incident, made her wish known to her aunt, who wrote about it on Facebook and she is now being flooded with cards.

Safyre Terry, an adorable little girl from New York, is hoping that you can take some time from your busy schedule to send her a Christmas card at the following address:

Safyre
P.O. Box 6126, Schenectady, NY 12306, USA.

When Safyre was five years old, a fire broke out in her home, killing her entire family, (no one has been arrested at this time for the deadly arson fire). The child lost her father, 32-year-old David Terry, and three younger siblings – Layah Terry, 3, Michael Terry, 2, and 11-month-old Donavon Terry.

Safyre was discovered in her father’s arms, who used his body to shield her from the blazing flames. Safyre, who suffered burns on 75 percent of her body, has been through 50 operations and has lost her right hand and left foot. Terry’s aunt and sole custodian, Liz Dolder, has created a Facebook page for her where she shares pictures of the little survivor enjoying life with her cousins.

Recently, Dolder bought a card tree, and Safyre explained that she was eager to fill it up. Dolder said:

“When she said she can’t wait to fill up the card tree my response was ‘I don’t think it’s gonna get filled up but I am sure we will get a few more cards.'”

Dolder decided to do something and posted a request on Facebook. She wrote:

“I wonder how many of my friends would take the time to write and send Safyre a Merry Christmas card that she can hang on her card tree….”

The mother of four young children with her husband, Mike, has received hundreds of cards since sharing the post, and Safyre could not be happier. One card read:

“I’m sure you have no idea who I am but … your outlook on life makes me smile and your undefeatable attitude is what makes humans amazing.”

Another person wrote to Terry saying:

“You are a beautiful girl, and hope you will have a good Christmas.”

Dolder said her faith in humanity has been restored:

“It’s magical. You always hear about those horrible things happening. And for this to happen — it restores your faith in humanity.”
