Jon Husted is out to prove that Donald Trump might be correct to some degree and that foreigners do vote in elections.
Mr. Husted, who is set to run for the governorship of Ohio, is the current secretary of state and he claimed that his office has discovered that 385 non-citizens are registered voters in the Buckeye State.
The investigation led to the following findings – 82 of 385 non-Americans have been able to vote in elections in Ohio.
The result of the inquiry was revealed in a long press release on Monday.
It is not known if the 82 people voted in local or presidential elections. The office of Secretary Husted did not say if the 385 non-American citizens were undocumented or green card holders.
It was not clear if these individuals cast ballots in the 2016 presidential election.
Experts say if the 82 people voted last November it would have amounted to only 0.0015% of the vote – and therefore not change the result of the election for either candidate.
Mr. Husted said his administration has sent out letters to all 385 non-citizens asking them to cancel their registration.
They will have 30 days to correct the matter, if they fail to do so, he will take legal actions against them.
According to the documents produced by Secretary Husted, they found the voting irregularities via Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ records that showed since 2013, 385 motorists had identified themselves as non-citizens and registered voters.
In his press release, Mr. Husted said: “In light of the national discussion about illegal voting it is important to inform our discussions with facts. The fact is voter fraud happens, it is rare and when it happens, we hold people accountable.”
The League of Women Voters of Ohio came out swinging and slammed Mr. Husted for releasing incomplete information about alleged voter fraud.
The organization is also criticizing the Republican politician for following Mr. Trump’s footsteps and fanning the flames of fear to harass immigrants, Muslim, and minorities.
The statement read: “In the current highly-charged political environment of border walls, bans on who may enter the country, and immigration raids, it is deeply troubling that a state government office would choose to issue a statement in bold letters proclaiming unlawful activity by non-citizens.”
The 45th U.S. president has been repeating for several months the untrue statement that millions of illegals were bused to New Hampshire to vote for Democrats.
He also inaccurately claimed more than 6 million people had cast ballots in California and New York which is why he lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton.
