A message to all of the adults who consistantly ruin Christmas for children all over the world!
It is people like you, that are most of the reason why the world is sooo bad today. The cost of any new toy is usally obsurd in itself. However, when adults that have nothing to do except of think of ways to make things even harder for someone else, the laws need changed. Even worse especially on holidays, people run around buying up all of the toys that are sought out by little children to control the price of it until the holidays are over is just ” SICK”!!!!! It is against against the law actually, it is called unfair marketing and also price gouging. I am pushing for representatives and congressman to put forth laws to make sure that people like you are jailed for doing it.
I already have the zhuzhu pets and extra accessories. Everyone I know( with little kids) is looking for them and just Thursday of last week at the Toys R Us in Terre Haute Indiana, 3 women went into the store and bought the entire shipment of 39 zhuzhu pet hamsters and 6 playhouses within the first 3 minutes of the store opening. It is people like these women that completely ruin Christmas for everyone!

Thank you!!! We recently moved and promised our kids a “moving gift”. My 5 year old daughter has been so patient, these Zhu Zhu pets are all she wants and they are sold out everywhere. Then I find out people are selling enormous lots of them of ebay and amazon for hundreds of dollars!!!! They are supposed to be $8!! What’s worse than the people hoarding these products and price gouging, are the idiots who pay them these prices! If everyone would band together and refuse to pay someone 10x retail, then these jerks would be out of business. They would be forced to lower to a reasonable price. I also blame the stores ….when something is selling like this they should put a limit on how many people can buy in a day or something. I suppose it’s capitalisim, but it is infuriating to see how severly overpriced these items are on these sites.

      • R from Chicago says:

Hey – I found these things my daughter wanted also in stock at random wal marts. I would advise anyone wanting them to go there. I only paid 8 bucks so no jer* Off from ebay can rip me off.

        Good Luck

  2. Teresa says:

I would NEVER pay the outrageous prices that most people are selling Zhu Zhu pets for. A huge lot of these toys are coming out in october/november. I stopped by walmart early one morning to see if they may have some in stock. Yes, they did! Be patient and wait for them to come out. To those who are selling these triple the price…get a job and a life. LOL

  3. santa says:

Do you guys go screaming at the toy stores for charging more than it cost to make the item? Yell at Walmart, Target for charging $19 for a toy that cost $2 to make.

Should people go into a store and buy every toy they can? NO! But, if you are going to start limiting the amount of a toy someone can buy, then you need to limit how much soda can be bought at Walmart at one time; how many gallons of milk. Where does it stop?

Stores should be in the business of selling items; toys, clothes, food, etc to those that have the legal means to pay for it. If you are looking for a “hot” toy for a child then stop complaining and go find one. Just because one isn’t sitting on you local toy store shelf doesn’t mean someone in your area came and bought them all up to sell on ebay, or amazon. Even if they, we live in a free market society. A first come first serve.

A few years back I wanted a Wii for my autistic son. I wasn’t willing to pay the outrageous price online. I didn’t waste my time complaining about those that had been at a store and bought one already, nor those selling them online. I got my butt up early everyday for 3 weeks, called every store within a 45 min. drive of my home. When finally I found one, I begged and pleaded with the clerk to hold it for me until I could arrive. I ended up with one. But you either have to put in the hard work, or pay the extra money for those that have them.

Oh, and the argument that a retail store can charge a mark-up but online sellers can’t. Get this, last week Toysrus was selling Zhu Zhu pets for $7.99 each (below walmart at $8) today they are selling them for $10.99. Going to try and have a law against that also? Toysrus did the same thing last year, marked up selling “hot toys” for $3-$5 more. January the price was back down. Go figure? Free market society. Make it right? nope. I want a BMW. Out of my price range. Should I sit and cry, write my congressman about how much a BMW cost? Nope.

    • Kelly says:

Thank you!! That is one of THE MAJOR problems in this country is Americans are spoiled and in turn their children get spoiled. We have become accustomed to when we can’t get our way; write the attorney general, they will make it right. There are a lot more important things to write your congressman about than the price of toys on the shelf and the limited supply of them.

I asked my 8 year old daughter what she wanted for Christmas this year. She told me she wanted the Zhu Zhu Hamster Action Set. I had never heard of it, and she told me the commercials are all over the T.V. I don’t watch much T.V. and Googled it this morning and found this thread. I saw them at Toys R’ Us for $21.99 and were sold out. If I can not locate one before Christmas, guess what, my daughter just won’t get one this year for Christmas and will be getting a beanie baby instead. Those are still around aren’t they?

  4. carly says:

It is afterall a free market society.

3 women 39 zhu zhu pets. Not a big deal! Most parents are thinking of them in a lot of 4 (one set, one of each color).

If stores such as TRU does start to limit what people can buy each day, then they need to do that with each and every TRU.

  5. ME says:

Good for you who stand up for the free market society!

All of those complaining about the price wouldn’t even want a Zhu Zhu pet unless some trendy magazine hadn’t told them they wanted it. Get a life. If you even have a job, your pay is likely derived from the fact that your company buys some product or service and then sells it for a profit. Don’t be mad because someone smarter than you figured out the hot toy of the season and invested their hard earned money in hopes of a profit. After all, there wouldn’t be a supply if there wasn’t a demand! If no one paid $30, no one could sell these things for that. Alas, someone is willing to pay $30, so there is a market for $30 Zhu Zhu’s. If you want to complain and not pay that much and not be willing to do a little leg work, get your kid some nice wooden blocks. The resulting therapy they will need one day will cost more than $30.

  6. Jen in WI says:

I also find it outrageous that people buy up all of the stock just to sell it to those of us with children who really want these items. One thing I did that worked – on Walmart.com you can check if your local Walmart has a given item and if the answer is no, you can ask to be e-mailed when the item arrives in stock. I did that and honestly didn’t expect it to work but it did. I got an e-mail last Thursday saying the fun house and hamster ball were in stock. I went on Friday and sure enough there were several of each item. I paid $20 for the fun house and $10 for the ball (as listed on Walmart.com). There was a space for the hamsters on the shelf but it was empty. I didn’t sign up for an e-mail on the hamsters but wonder if I’d gone on Thursday (when I got the e-mail about the fun house/ball) if they’d have been there. HMMMM…Anyway, I’m going to keep with the e-mail notifiication strategy and hopefully will have a hamster or two by Christmas. Good Luck to all and DON’T Pay the high price!

  7. luilui89 says:

I don’t agree completely on the limit thing but I do think that a specialized toy store like Toy’s R Us could atleast take into consideration that they know how they are selling and to order a FULL stock to ensure the sales. Not only would it help us parents but thier sales too. I would rather sell an item for one set price constantly then to sell a stock here and there while mad parents are resorting to Ebay instead due to birthday/x-mas timing. I myself do not have spoiled kids but my three year old sees her sister with thier real hamsters and is begging for this set. IF I can manage to get it for her, it will be the only thing she will be getting so it will be heartbreaking for her and myslf if I can’t manage to do so. Not all the kids are spoiled, some parents don’t have much to spend and just want to see thier children atleast get ONE of the BIG items thier kids want. People need to stop finding reasons to fight with eachother and instead need to work WITH and FOR eachother, from the consumers to the retailers and vice versa! As for the Ebay thing, I could never try to screw a parent or child by sky rocketing prices on truly wanted items and if anything, would put a bid at a low or reasonable price and if it went above and beyond than it’s not my fault people paid the price. I know I’m on there still trying but I pass up anything that goes any higher than what it’s worth considering price, gas, taxes and so on. I still have no Zhu Zhu’s and I’m stressed but hey! I think Toy’s R Us should be ashamed and Walmart too at that. This is thier one job and thier whole reason for being the stores they are. Selfishness, greed, and stupidity will eventually tear a store down. There’s always a new star waiting to steal the spotlight and they may one day realize they too can be taken out!

  8. girl from MI says:

I don’t understand why everyone is so hard on EBay. I mean I see some auctions starting these things at .99 cents. Much cheaper then any store.. It is the buyers and bidders who put the price up there themselves. If there is a person that wants and are willing to pay the high price then let them. They don’t mind paying and they get the pet they want delivered to their door, and yes someone can make a little money doing it. Nobody forces you to put in a bid of 23 plus dollars if that is not what you want to pay.
As for getting a real job, maybe some people find it enjoyable to hunt down that desired toy and sell them. After all they did work.. They have to hunt down the item, spend their gas getting it, and paying retail price for it, (So they are not breaking any laws there) and then put money with it to put up the auction. For me I see them more as giving a service to people who don’t want to do the work at finding these things themselves, and if they make a little money doing so it is fine with me.
The end result is still the same as well. Their is a happy child on Christmas morning. Who cares if the parents went out and found it themselves or bought it online for a bit more then buying it at the store.

  9. steve says:

yes the sellers are looking to make money on ebay but when they start the bidding at .99 and people run the price up. it is the buyer that is jacking the price up not the seller.if it were the seller the starting price would be 30 plus dollars. i know i see people selling them as lots for high prices but that is for 4 hampsters and every extra part that is sold for it . i bought 4 hampsters 2 wheels and 2 garadges im not trying to buy them all up to make a profit i bought them because i have 3 kids. so just because you see someone buying a ton of zhu zhu pets dosen’t mean they are looking to make a profit it just might be for more than one kid.

  10. amy says:

HI yes i am one of those people buying all the pets i can find and reselling them!I never did this but since everyone else did it and i am good at finding hard to find stuff ….why not?I dont have a job my husband and i live on one income while others live in nicer homes have nicer cars becuase they have 2 incomes. So i am taking advantage of my time and waiting in lines pushing thru crowds and searching the stores so YOU can buy one from me…i earned every cent. They did not fly into my arms. You want one for 8-10 get off your lazy butt but- chances are you can afford to pay 30$ so stop complaining !!!!LOL.And you complainer would NEVER wait in the rain and get wet like i did.Wouldnt want to mees up you new UGGS LOL

    • Courtney says:

hey i waited just like you did and have been to eight to nine different malls and countless stores, numerous times, starting in October so dont assume people who dont have them are lazy and might get there UGGS wet which I dont even own a pair, sometimes we just cant find them….and its people like you who sit at home on ebay selling these because your husband works and you cant get off your butt and get a job instead you just sit there jacking up prices on toys trying to justify why you do it I can justify it for you YOU ARE LAZY AND NEED TO GET A LIFE AND A JOB!!!

  11. Lin Idaho says:

I went into Walmart here for the zhuzhu pet and assesories and the manager in the toy department said before they even got them out on the shelves two men came in and bought the entire lot. still in the warehouse boxes. I do not think this is honest at all. Just like the other people before me said this is for children GIVE IT A BREAK!!! DON”T YOU PEOPLE HAVE ANY HEART!!!. I dont feel the stores should let these type of people do this.!!!

  12. Chill Out People says:

These toys are not hard to find you just have to put forth some effort! I was upset too for a while until I realized how easy they are to get with a little effort. I got mine on my first early morning trip to TRU just ask when they are coming in and be there or send someone you know!

  13. Tom says:

These zhu zhu’s are worth $30+. This is pure open market capitalism at its best. One point that a lot of complainers have not considered, is there are a lot of people who live tens, hundereds, or maybe even thousands of miles from the nearest Target, ToysRus or Walmart and don’t have the convienience of waltzing into their neighborhood store every morning at 8am to see if more ZhuZhus have arrived. Really, if you lived 200 miles from the nearest Target, is it worth your time PLUS the $40 you’ll spend on gas to drive there and back to purchase an $8 toy? Hell no! It’s in fact cheaper to buy it for $30 on ebay…get it?

Those of us that go in and buy up most of the stock (we’re not allowed to buy it all) are actually acting as a brokerage/holding agency for eager consumers who can’t get to a store themselves…aren’t their children entitled to Zhu Zhu’s too? Or are only children who live within 5 miles of a Target/Walmart entitled to these pets? Further, think of the time and money YOU would save if you stopped driving around all day, sitting in traffic, bouncing from store to store only to see empty shelves and simply laid down the 30 bucks on ebay and be done with it. It will even be delivered to your front door. See, you’re saving money and your kid gets what they want…a VERY desirable toy. Merry Christmas.

  14. Heather says:

If you need these pets but don’t want to pay retail, there is this site called giftsalert.com, you go there and then click search Amazon, get the ASIN number for anything that is out of stock, paste it in at the left, save your items and it will let you know (with a LOUD airhorn – almost gave me a heart attack. LOL) when they come into Amazon stock. It sounds complicated but it is pretty easy. Hope this helps some of you. Heather

  16. The Capitalism Fairy says:

Interesting. Everyone hates capitalism as soon as it comes after their fake rodents. Who knew?

  17. scott says:

To all those preaching “free market” capitalism…. get a clue. There are rules in free market societies, rules and LAWS. Market manipulation through unfair practices, price gouging, monopolies, these are just a few examples of things that are NOT allowed in “free market” capital systems like in the US. For example, there is nothing wrong with a retail outlet (online or otherwise) raising prices in order to keep up with demand. However, when they don’t limit the number of items that can be bought by a single customer, they deprive consumers a chance at fair competition. Then they take a $8 item and charge $60 – $100 for it, and sell all of them to a single person, thus creating a false market based on manipulation. (the consumer is cut out and more layers of resellers jack up the price before the consumer can buy)

To anyone doing this: Get a wholesale business license and buy direct from the company for resale as a legal retailer. That is how “free market” capitalism works. That way the COMPANY that makes the product gets paid fair value based on actual demand. Not the scam artists. That way the company also knows how much inventory is actually ending up in the hands of the actual consumer, rather than being horded by false resellers.

Of course, its easier to cry about socialism, and yell “free capitalism is great” and “Americans are spoiled” than to actually educate yourself right?

And to Amy who says she is doing it because “I dont have a job my husband and i live on one income while others live in nicer homes have nicer cars becuase they have 2 incomes.” , well dear…. many many many people right now have NO jobs and are being deprived a nice cheap $8 Christmas present for their kids because of you, thanks a lot, hope you feel good about that!!

  18. Courtney says:

THANKYOU SCOTT FOR CALLING OUT THAT SPOILED BRAT ONE INCOME CRY ME A RIVER AMY. SHE NEEDS TO REALIZE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE WORSE OFF THAN SHE IS AND SHE IS MAKING IT WORSE FOR THEM WHEN OH MY GOD SHE COULD GET A REAL JOB! I HOPE SHE REALIZES HOW SELFISH AND IGNORANT SHE SOUNDS.
