Yolanda Foster admitted that she is not the only one battling Lyme disease in her family. Last week, “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star attended the Global Lyme Alliance Gala in New York City where she was honored.

The 51-year-old former model, who has been very open since being diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012, revealed at the charity event, that two of her three children – Bella Hadid and Anwar Hadid – are also battling the tick-borne illness caused by the bacterium, Borrelia burgdorferi.

According to experts, people infected with the disease often have a fever, headache, and feel tired. In some cases, the individual suffers from joint pain, heart palpitations and memory problems. Because the illness is not contagious, it is believed that ticks bit Foster and her children in the same environment around the same time. There are more than 30,000 people diagnosed with Lyme disease every year. The mother of three, who was given the “Power of One” award, told the audience:

“When my two youngest children, Bella and Anwar, were diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease in early 2012, watching my babies struggle in silence in order to support me in my journey, struck the deepest core of hopelessness inside of me.”

Foster went on to say that the disease gets the best of her most of time and added:

“This award is for Anwar and Bella. This is my token and my promise to you that I will not allow you to live a life of pain and suffering. I will walk to the end of the earth to find a cure so that you can live a healthy life that you deserve. No child should suffer the way that you do … I thank you both for your extraordinary selflessness during this journey. Your unwavering love and compassion has kept me alive and fighting through the darkest days of my life. … I am so sorry for all the important things I have missed in your life these past four years. I used to be a pretty cool, smart, multi-tasking, kickass mom. But all three of you, all three of my children really got short-changed with a dumb blonde in the white robe, that mostly lives her life in bed.”

In April, Foster shared a lengthy post on her blog where she revealed that she was more determined than ever to keep fighting until she finds a cure. She also confessed that she often had no control over her brain and felt sad that she was missing out on all the big milestones in her children’s lives.
