Woman beaten on wedding night and story makes headlines. A British woman by the name of Amy Dawson, was beaten by her new husband and the father of her child on their wedding night, because he was unable to remove her gown. The abusive groom, Gavin Golightly, told police that he was drugged during the reception and has no recollection of the incident.

The headline “woman beaten wedding night” has gone viral. Amy Dawson recently sat down with several British media outlets to share her heartbreaking story. In August of 2014, Amy Dawson wed her longtime boyfriend and the father of their baby in a stunning ceremony at St Mary’s Church in West Rainton, County Durham.

After saying “I do” and dancing the night away, Amy Dawson and Gavin Golightly left for the Beamish Hall, a country hotel. According to the bride, an argument rapidly broke out after Golightly was unable to remove her wedding dress.

The woman stated that her 29-year-old then-husband sat on her and punched her numerous times in the face. The 22-year-old lady explained:

“When he lashed out at me on my wedding night, I thought I was going to die. I was terrifed. He looked like he was going to kill me.”

She went on to add that her husband left the room and returned to attack her a second time. Amy Dawson, an accountancy student, said that she eventually escaped and asked a hotel porter to call the authorities. Dawson told the Mirror:

“After the attack, he left the room and I tried to escape, but he came back in and continued to beat me. Eventually, I escaped and found a hotel porter, who called the police. It was such a lovely day, and I was devastated it ended the way it did. It was a huge celebration full of friends and family, and I thought it would have been the fresh start we needed.”

Miss Dawson, who suffered a cut above her left eyebrow and some bruises to her face and chest area, has since filed for divorce. The woman beaten on her wedding night has since confessed that her partner was abusive in the past, but was sometimes caring – which is why she married him anyway.

Appearing in court, Gavin Golightly claimed that he was drugged at the reception and can not remember beating his new wife. Court documents showed:

“The defendant said he has no recollection of the event, adding that he must have had his drink spiked. He remembers waking up in a hotel room and said he does not get angry when he takes drugs.”

A judge slapped Golightly with 24 months community order with the requirement of supervision. Golightly was also hit with a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting Ms Dawson directly or indirectly.

instead of community service he should be sentenced to at least 30 yrs jail time. he beat her up twice he a maniac on the loose. he will do it again.

      • John P. says:

The best thing that she can do is get an annulment and lose that loser. Regardless of how much he promises to be nice, he will keep beating her up. Maybe he needs some of her friends to beat the sh_t out of him a couple of times and he might get the message. Sounds like his brain is in his crotch. Get her a baseball bat and show her how to use it.

    2. George says:

Girl- RUN! RUN! Get the hell away from that marriage right away if you already haven’t. That was nothing but a sign that cannot be ignored.

    5. CJ says:

Dang!! If she was already getting her butt kicked, then what in blue hell was she thinking to marry him?!?!?

    6. Mike says:

Unbelievable! Run as fast as you can from this abusive idiot! You can not fix him! He must do that for himself and in the mean time the cycle of get beat, he apologizes, you take him back, you get beat, etc. just continues. You are better than that and stronger than you think. Go have a great life!

Protect your baby from him…he should never be alone with the child…any man that would beat a women… anytime, and especially on the honeymoon, is a very disturbed person and needs mental evaluation. He has beat you before????? What were you thinking…people DON’T change! You are so lucky to be alive and able to raise your child…please get a court order to protect the child as well!

    7. Snaggletooths says:

Hmmm….. A wife beater with a neck tattoo, who would have guessed? POS!!!

    8. Lily says:

This woman is in desperate need of counseling for very low self esteem, which makes her feel worthy of being subjected to this violent abuse. Women who allow their husbands to beat them have incredibly low self esteem. The husband should get jail time and counseling as well. Social services/Children’s protective services should be involved to protect the child from the father, and the mother who will continue to expose this child to an abusive environment. I do not know what sort of Svengali hold this man has over this clueless woman, but there is no reason to expose her child to it.

    9. SMH says:

24 months community order with the requirement of supervision, and a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting Ms Dawson directly or indirectly? An abusive white guy gets no jail time???? WTF? Meanwhile, a black woman is sentenced to 60 years in jail for firing a warning shot against her abusive husband. The sentencing guidelines, or lack thereof, in this country are clearly biased, dysfunctional, and completely lacking in common sense.

    10. c. loomis says:

maybe it was the huge ear ring piercing that attracted her to him.

    11. jd45 says:

I agree with the RUN comments….and I hope this will speak to other women that if he has been abusive before, it doesn’t get better after the wedding. That also applies to men who are involved with violent women. This young women is fortunate enough to have recognized quickly that this will not get better, but will actually get worse over time.

To the violent offenders out there, get some help. You do actually have the ability to control yourself. Rage is anger laser beamed. Not out of control. Otherwise, this bloke would have been punching and fighting every person who he came into contact with. Laser beamed….he beat only his wife.

    12. LT.COMD. WALSH says:

YOU NEED TO BE WITH A REAL MAN ! NOT A CHILD , THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE THAT WOULD OR COULD MAKE THOSE ACTIONS ACCEPTABLE – YOU NEED TO BE WITH A MAN THAT IS WILLING TO EARN YOU IN HIS LIFE DAILY , TO ACCEPT WHO YOU REALLY ARE AND KNOW THAT HE CAN ACCENTUATE ALL OF YOUR POSITIVE INFLUENCES BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU UNCONDITIONALLY AND IS PROUD THAT YOU HAVE CHOSEN LIFE WITH HIM ! DO NOT !!! I SAY AGAIN ! ( DO NOT ) WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THE WRONG ONE ! THE MAN FOR YOU IS VERY MUCH OUT THERE , IF YOU CAN’T DO IT FOR YOURSELF ? DO IT FOR HIM , I PROMISE YOU HE IS WORTH THE WAIT AND THE SEARCH – YOU HAVE BUT THIS ONE LIFE TO DO ALL YOU ARE GOING TO DO IN IT ! MAKE IT COUNT BY BUILDING GREAT MEMORIES !

    13. Steve says:

We need to bring back eugenics, some people should be removed from the gene pool!

    14. john says:

He is a piece of shit! I would like to beat him!

    15. Jacquie Joubert says:

He hit you BEFORE, do you think it will stop just because you have a ring on your finger NOW? Alcohol or drugs just an excuse for this low life to hit a woman. Why doesn’t he pick on someone his OWN size ? Oh yeah, because you’d get the crap beat out of you by a REAL man ; )

    16. medina jr says:

if that was my daughter that chapete would be sleeping with the fishes
