Westboro Baptist Petition

The Westboro church/White House petition has picked up some serious traction on the internet.

On December 14th (the same day the horrible massacre of 26 people including 20 children and 6 adults took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut) a petition landed on the White House’s “We the People” website demanding that the Westboro Baptist Church be officially known as a hate group like the KKK or white supremacist groups.

The petition was put together by the Southern Poverty Law Center after the controversial religious group announced that they had plans to protest the funerals of the innocent people murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The petition has become the most successful request on the site – thus far over over 475,000 people have signed the letter demanding that the Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church be given that title.

Westboro Baptist Church (which is famous for picketing homosexual, soldier, Jewish, AIDS victims and Christian funerals) is also the target of the internet’s most famous hackers Anonymous.

Anonymous vowed to destroy the hate-mongering group by attacking their members.

Another petition on the White House is demanding that the group has its tax-exempt status be revoked – over 25,000 Americans have signed it.

No one knows if the Obama administration will answer the petitions.
