Unemployment Extension July 12 2010:Jon Kyl Takes A Stand

Garrett .M. | July 12, 2010 | 223 Comments More

Unemployment Extension July 12 2010:Jon Kyl Takes A Stand – If it was up to Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) he would would have eliminated unemployment benefits to the jobless Americans who are a seeking a little relief as they seek for a new job.
The Republican politician who is a very strong supporter of tax cuts for the wealthy shocked journalists again today when he was questioned about the unemployment insurance that is still on hold.

Jon Kyl who said that is was a “necessary evil” to cut jobless benefits explained:
“It’s a necessary evil in a sense. You’d like not to have raise revenue in order to pay people for not working – or not to pay them for not working, but because they can’t get work. You want them to get work so you don’t have to pay them. It’s something the government would just as soon not have to do if it could avoid it.”

This statement will not sit well with the nearly two million people who are hoping that their benefits will be restored as soon as possible.

The 40 votes to let people starve were cast by 39 Republicans and Democrat Ben Nelson of Nebraska. I believe 57 Democrats and only 2 Republicans voted to let us not starve. F..K the Republican party. Any Republican in this forum who votes Republican in November is just an idiot.

George Bush never received the majority of the popular votes, through fraud they used the little tabs on the cards to throw out the Gore votes, proved after Bush was announced electoral winner. Bush and Kerry Florida was the culprit, the governor was George’s what? Brother and remember all the confusion in voting, Kerry was winning by a landslide so the major news agencies announced, then all of a sudden, trick or treason? Bush won the electoral but still lost the popular. THE PEOPLE NEVER ELECTED BUSH! In the 8 years that Bush and republicans has been in control they have destroied the USA economy. I would like to find out who is holding up the employment, also those wishy washy afraid to vote yes to pass it and put them on a “NO VOTE LIST”.com and vote against them. If they aren’t for Americans in need they don’t deserve my vote reguardless of years. November the republicans and Ben Nelson (Nebraska Sennat Democrat) will be voted OUT. Elvin

Cmon you crooked joke of a government. Yes we have to worry about the debt and the future but the reality out here in the REAL WORLD is that the reality of the future for many americans is how they are going to keep their electric bill paid NEXT WEEK, or how they are going to pay their rent or mortgage TOMORROW. How can I pay for groceries IN TWO DAYS. THAT IS THE REALITY OF OUR FUTURE right now. MIllions of us don’t have the LUXERY to worry about the national debt and years down the road. OUR FUTERE IS UPON US….WE ARE TRYING TO SURVIVE OUT HERE….what in the world has this government turned into? They are NOT for the american people…they only care about themselves and their lobbyists. Lord save us from these blood suckers.

        • Frustrated with gvt says:

Hey capitalist..maybe before you shoot off your mouth you should know your facts. I have worked 30 years without ever being off work and have more then paid my fai share into this government. I hold multiple degrees and mutilple engineering and teaching certifications which gave me a $90,000 a year job before being laid off, (due to the downsizing in the automotive business). In case you shoot your mouth off that I am one of those greedy UAW people, sorry, not part of UAW. I was working 65 hrs a week. You obviously do not live in Detroit (oh by the way we have 2nd highest unemployment rate in US and the 2nd hardest place to find a job- do you read facts?). I AM paying my bills but I know alot of people who are struggling very hard and I have a little compassion to my fellow citizen, unlike you. You probably are one of those rich kids who had a silver spoon handed to you when you were born,,probably a senators child, in New England or California who has low unemployment.. By the way I worked my way OUT OF POVERTY.

      • Capitalist says:

your all a bunch of cry babies….have you forgotten that we live in a capitalist country and not a socialist one….it is up to you to support yourself and your family….maybe you should have done some better planning when you were young and gotten a better education and training…..maybe you should have done a better job saving and planning for retirement…..you cannot expect the government to support you because you cannot support yourself

        • Joe Fellas says:

I totally agree. I live on S.S. Made many mistakes in my life and only “I” am to blame. But was NEVER lazy, and many, MANY people (that I even know) don’t even TRY to look for a job as long as the numb nuts food stamp thing in the Oval office keeps all the people DOWN, so they can NEVER get up again, as in ALL Socialistic countries which have FAILED. Joe

    2. Mark says:

Kyl, go to hell where you belong,

    3. Justin says:

I live in az. And I emailed Jon Kyl About extending the benefits. “I do support it”.

He emailed me back. And it read…. on July 1

      Dear Mr. —-

Thank you for your resent email,

I have supported a number of extensions of unemployment benefits in the past, including a stand-alone extension offered by Senator McConnell on June 24.

The problem is, the Majority Party has been attempting to package the unemployment benefits extension with a variety of unrelated initiatives and tax increases to try to win their approval, as well.

I appreciate your letting me know of your concern, and I will be sure to have your views in mind as further related legislation comes before the Senate.

That was verbatim.. Just thought it was interesting.

      • M Petrock says:

        Justin,

Al I can say is vote him out of office so he knows how it feels to be out of a job.

        • Hoang Nguyen says:

You can’t vote him out until 2012 and by that time people will forget. That’s is the problem we have with senators since most of them will not be candidate for this year that’s why Nelson votes again his party.

        • Tamtrag says:

Except that he has a pension for life in the six figure range. Even when he’s out of office, he’ll never be broke. Let’s take THAT money to pay for our lifeline.

        • E. Bray says:

I agree. I also live in AZ and both him and McCain are always making excuses for the actions they take. I have been unemployed for 18mo and the entire time I have been out there looking and even went back to school in hopes of it helping. The jobs in AZ have dried up. The little amount I WAS getting on un employement isnt even enough to cover rent and transportation. AZ sits at 240 a week MAX which I believe is second or third lowest in the country. And our government officials are still getting thier checks and arnt feeling the same crunch as two MILLION americans have.

        • Carol M says:

I am losing my place to live at the end of July. I sold all my jewerly to make my July rent. My unemployment ran out at 29 May. Just a week too late to get the Tier’s program. My final payment was a big $21.00 dollars. I totally agreed that this senator should be voted out. He deserves to see how it feels to be unemployed. If my Govenor doesn’t get off his Vss, I will never vote for him again.

      • traCY says:

Senator Kyl is a f…..g liar. The last 2 votes were stand alone bills involving ONLY the extension. Go fu.. yourself Senaotr.

      • HMJ says:

The Republicans didn’t like the first bill with the tax cuts included so they were removed, finally, by the stubborn Democrats. Now, they are still using the same argument for the stand-alone UC benefits extension…Wow, this makes no sense. I do not, for the life of me, understand political ideology on EITHER side of this argument! People are starving (which is going to increase our basic, state paid entitilement programs…food stamps, TANF, etc.), losing their homes (which will drive all of our home values down), not spending (which causes even more small businesses to fail), etc. and Republicans & Democrats are arguing about the most moronic ideals possible.

I, thankfully, have maintained my job throughout this mess and am starting nursing school in Sept…But, I am in the minority. Doesn’t it matter that we are all human beings and don’t live in a “scr?w you” country? I am deeply concerned with the bitter discourse within our country for the most basic of stimulus available to accomplish two important goals: 1) For every $1 in UC benefits, the return is $1.67 into the economy. 2) BASIC HUMAN COMPASSION FOR OUR FELLOW MAN!

I understand that there are those that will scam a system given a chance, but to exclude any/all from the basic availability of food/shelter due to the behaviour of a few is rediculous. Do those of you that are arguing for no extension of these benefits not understand what a negative impact the 5-10 million people with no income at all are going to have on the economy as a whole and where we will all be then?

Wow, I just wish that the Democrats would have utilized their majority better since no matter what they did, they were going to be demonized anyway! I am neither Democrat nor Republican, but neither side makes any sense to me and hasn’t for quite a while now. There is a human side to this and also a practical one.

      • Amanda says:

I love the typo. Seems like he’s paying as close attention to his communication skills as he is to the millions who are out of work. I love how magically we (the unemployed) are supposed to have jobs, pay bills, “grow the economy” just because they stop benefits. My favorite argument is well perhaps you are expecting too much, go out and get a minimum wage job. Yea, ok, sure, but mortgages, utilities and creditors don’t have income dependent amounts due. Dems need to get some balls and the GOP…well there is just nothing nice to say about them.

    4. Troy says:

Give me 5 minutes with this moron and I bet I could get this heartless, worthless, out of touch P.O.S. to reconsider his thoughts on the unemployed. I served my country in war and 8 months after returning home from war and looking to do something else with my life our country has forgotten about the very people who fought for it. I’m about to be homeless without ever having the chance to do something else. I will fix this disgusting poor little mans views and make him wish he had chosen his words more carefully. We are F’d in this new country ran by our out of control and OUT OF TOUCH senators. sad days for everyone!

    9. Anita says:

I thought Kyl got it based upon ILLEGAL immigration, but I see from his comments on unemployment extensions he is another Republican out of touch with REAL Americans!
His comments reflect a lot of politicians sentiments that the UNemployed and UNDERemployed should just disappear so that they AND The Media would not have to acknowledge that we exist at all.
Are tent cities and food lines looming in our VERY near futue??? The ELECTED Public Servants obviously do not give a rat’s hiney! PLEASE do not forget the heartless and those without a conscience on voting day!!!

    10. Cheryl says:

I don’t understand why people who started their benefits months before me still have benefits and I don;t . Or why the web site says I still have monies available .

      • Hoang Nguyen says:

You would collect UC benefits until your tier ended. That’s why the system is not fair someone would collect up to 99 weeks and someone else just collect 26 weeks. The term “extension bill” is actually not correct it should call the “validation of all tiers” or something like that since the bill does not extend any more tier at all. That’s why someone did not understand and against the bill since they think 99 weeks ~ 2 years is enough. Reid and his fellows should try explain to American people about this matter.

      • Joyce says:

        Hi,

If the website says you still have money available, you may just have to recertify. I had to do the same thing on the 1 year mark from my initial claim. They take all the same info they did in the beginning and verify that you are still unemployed. Hope that helps.

      • MR says:

I had a balance of over $900 left on it. Its not much but I was depending on it.

      • Brett B says:

Im in the same boat as you. I still have $ available which isnt being released to me. My cousin on the other hand has been collecting longer than I, hasnt looked for one job since, and is still getting his unemployment. To people like me, this is a slap in the face. Every week I have been going on interviews and in my profession, I am loosing the jobs due to people who are over qualified getting them because their position isnt open anywhere.

    11. matt says:

I’M SORRY FOR SAYING THESE THINGS BUT THEY NEED TO BE SAID. JON KYL AND ALL THE OTHERS WHO FEEL THAT THIS EXTENSION IS NOT NECESSARY THEY CAN KISS MY AMERICAN A S. YOU PEOPLE SIT IN YOUR OFFICE AND GET BIG PAY CHECKS WELL US THE HARD WORKERS, THE ONES WHO LOST THERE JOB DO TO THE ECONOMY HAVE TO SUFFER AND HAVE HARD TIMES PAYING OUR BILLS AND FEEDING OUR FAMILIES BECAUSE YOU WANT TO TAKE THE ONLY HELP WE HAVE AWAY. WERE NOT ASKING FOR THE EXTENSION FOR DRUGS AND OTHER BULL SHIT REASONS, WERE ASKING FOR THE SO WE CAN TRY AND FUCKEN LIVE OUR LIFES WITH THAT TILL WE CAN FIND JOBS. YOU PEOPLE ARE ASSHOLES AND AGAIN TILL WE GET THE HELP YOU CAN KISS MY A S………………..THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO ARE TRYING TO HELP US GET THE HELP WE NEED ……. GOD BLESS YOU

      • Will Nesmith says:

Take another look at the facts, and don’t let the propaganda machine fool you any longer. You’re smarter than that.

        • Ralph says:

It is amazing that so many replies reflect the absolute necessity of the Federal Government maintaining income supports when the economy has tanked. Look at these replies: many are uneducated, can’t spell, and curse out of complete frustration.

It is also unbelievable that some have the nerve to really think that the answer is to pull up and move, a deadly escape from one’s entire family and support systems. Others really believe the conservative nonsense that all one has to do is go get a job. How despicable it is that those who have jobs, or money in the bank, or good pensions, really believ it is possible to go out and find a job–duh!!–just what do you think unemployment is? Maintaining income support is the responsibility of the community–and the Federal Government. When we don’t get it, revolution is in order.

    12. Sheldon says:

These senators that refuse to vote for another extension, really turn my stomach. They knew before they went on vacation, that by the time they came back, another 200,000 people would lose benefits, but still did nothing.
These people each, probably spent enough money for the liquor they bought for their party on the 4th, to pay my rent for 4 months. They don’t care, they have it made. They don’t worry about becoming homeless, our tax dollars pay for everything they need,or want. Next time these jerks want a raise, make them all remember the crap thet are pulling today. When election time comes, show them that they angered too many people, and get them out of office. They worry about how they will pay for another extension, but never batted and eye when freddie mac,GM,Chrysler,AIG,and others asked for hundreds of billions to bail them out, or when they send billions over seas. Tell thes crooks we are fed up with them, and their bulls#!+.

      • Pam says:

        Sheldon,

They voted for an automatic annual raise for congress in December 2009. It overwhelmingly passed. No one questioned how that would be paid for.

I’ve been trying to find a job for the past 20 months. ANY JOB. This congress sickens me in their insensitivity and heartlessness. Single mom, 3 kids, no job, no unemployment. I have noticed since the beggining of July the job postings have dwindled considerably, not that the ones that were posted were actually being filled. I’ve had several HR personel, and former coworkers tell me that although positions are posted, the companies are actually in a hiring freeze.

Oh, and Peter, I hope you find a new position quickly. I thought I would, but it didn’t happen.

So look hard for a non existant job and go without unemployment. This is cruel and unusual punishment for a problem WE did not create. I’m sure most of you aren’t sleeping well, have anxiety attacks, and a permanant upset stomach. I know I do.

    13. Will Nesmith says:

How really ignorant are all of you? Read the debate and the proposals. He wants to pass a bill that draws from the stimulus money. The Dems want to add to the debt. That is the simple argument. The wealthy racist Dems are using you and you keep voting them in. The Repubs are doing the same thing, but not to that extent. You have to ask yourself if you have benefitted at all in the past 2 years. Taxes go up for everyone in January. So enjoy that. Like we need to give them any more money to spend on their pals. Wake up and throw away your party loyalties!

      • Nicole says:

If anyone should wake up it’s you. How dare republicans say that they care about the deficit now that they have spent the last eight years under bush ruining the deficit. The money that they want to use, the stimulus money, is already allotted to something else in the future I’m sure. I’m sick of tax breaks for the wealthy and the rich getting richer. How ironic that now they care about the deficit, now that we have spent billions of dollars on a war that we should have never entered, rebuilding other countries that we have destroyed, and forcing our views on everyone now they care about the deficit it’s bs to me. If anyone needs a wake up call it is you and anyone who agrees with the republicans turning their backs on Americans who desperately need assistance.

      • kathy says:

I could care less about party loyalties. I care about the fact that I have no food on the table for my son,my electric is about to get cut off and I’m now a month behind in rent. Bottom line is they are taking too much time to come to an agreement and its at our expense! At this point I don’t care where they get this money from they just need to hurry up and agree. I am someone who is educated with an excellent resume and normally people would be coming to me offering me jobs but with the economy the way it is I’m just being rejected from everyone. Mcdonalds won’t even hire me cause I’m”over qualified”! These sen. Really need to do something about this NOW! Trying to defend why they are doing it isn’t helping either. We vote them in these places to help us in times like this and bottom line is they are letting us down. They get no defense from me.

      • ken s says:

you sir are the ignorant 1. lets see hes not worried about whos paying for the tax cuts at the cost of 700 billion that he weants to give to the rich

      • retardedrepubs says:

Looks like Will has drank the Kool-Aid. Make no mistake this is not about deficit spending. The fact is this would add .1% to the deficit over the course of time. Currently the Iraq/Afghanistan wars and the Bush tax cut makes up 60% of the total annual deficit. Both of which the republicans have no problem voting for and the repubs continue to support to this day.

For those that think the stimulus failed then must be ignoring the FACT that before the stimulus the economy was at -6% growth for three straight quarters. FACT: Since the stimulus the ecomony has grown at an average of 4% quarter over quarter. So who is the ignorant one Will Nesmith?????

      • Ann says:

Why should we use the stimulus money for unemployment? That money is used to STIMULATE the economy – I have seen it work with road improvements, etc. Unemployment is INSURANCE that is paid into when we work – in some states the employee pays part of it but in most the employer pays part of it.

It’s BS for capitalistic pig republicans to come out and say that they don’t want to pass an unemployment bill because it will add to the debt. What about the war and the aid to foreign countries?

      • tim says:

Apparently it won’t matter, because if I have no income, the Federal government gets a whopping ZERO when taxes go up. 50% of zero is still zero. I agree that the money should come out of the stimulus, not added to the deficit. BUT, sometimes in dire situations you have to do whatever it takes to make it happen. Republicans need to realize that there is NO WAY they will ever be able to get their bill to pass, even if it is the better option. So… which is a better option: 1. add more unemployment benefits to the deficit, putting money in the hands of families who need to feed their children, taking 10% of it back right away in the income tax charged to unemployment benefits, and dumping the money straight into the economy, as that is where it is going anyways. People receiving unemployment are not stashing it in savings, they are going to the store to buy what they need to take care of their families… which stimulates the economy because at least they have something to spend. Option 2: keep the stalemate going, pass no unemployment benefits, and save the addition to the federal deficit. If this happens, every unemployed worker will end up on food stamps and welfare, which means the states will pay for it instead. Either way it comes out of tax money, but states are not allowed to go into debt, so the welfare/food stamp option will bankrupt every state in this country. Which is the lesser of two evils?

      • Cosima says:

Perhaps YOU should do some reading yourself:
        .huffingtonpost.com/arianna-huffington/the-unemployment-benefits_b_643717.html?utm_source=DailyBrief&utm_campaign=071310&utm_medium=email&utm_content=FeatureMore

Here’s a quote from the article: “The latest extension of unemployment benefits would have added $22 billion to the debt by the end of 2011. This means that the debt would be $9,807,000,000 instead of $9,785,000,000 at the end of fiscal 2011, an increase of the debt to GDP ratio from 65.3 percent to 65.4 percent.”

i live in small city in calif..resently 5 stores closed in our mall, most of the jobs out there are part time and your very lucky if you can find one.i’m not on unemployment because its the easy way out ,i can’t make with what little i get.and at 57yrs its hard to find anything.so as you guys sit in your appointed chairs, remember who put you there.with out the income of 260.000 people whos gona buy the milk, bread, and shoes that may keep our economy afloat???????

      • Robin Michelle says:

How do you consider collecting unemployment is the “easy way out”? Americans have been working for years and have had unemployment insurance taken out of their paychecks….They’ve earned the right to collect the benefits if they need too and I’m kinda of ashame that this is going on in America…

The bigwigs are quick to say “where will this money coming from” and I say, the same place all of the billions and billions of dollars that they spend on sending folks to the moon and sending overseas to help out other….I also so say, print the damn money already

    15. franklin says:

did you guys know that these senators do not pay into any kind of social security an still when they retire they get payed 100 to 300 k in retirement benifits till the day they die i think that is pretty messed up that we have to pay that in taxes

    16. Gail says:

I’m sure Mr. Kyl supported the cooperates that flew in on their private jets to ask for money so they could get their fat bonuses. While I an educated single mother of one rides all over in my 2004 Dodge Neon
(that I’m two payments behind on) looking for work that isn’t there! They weren’t concerned when the Republicans doubled the deficit during the Bush administration! I am truly ashamed of my government! Tax cuts for the rich…give me a break! I promise that in November I will be at the polls bright and early to vote these clowns out. Let them stand in the unemployment line!!!!!

    17. Susan says:

I have been unemployed since 12/2008 I am 56 and this is the first time in my life I am been without a job. The first couple of weeks I was in shock I kept telling myself I would find work with no problem. I was wrong I not could not find work in the field I had worked in for 28 years but I could not even find work in any field. I had applied on average of 20 jobs a week for about 70 weeks you can do the math. I am far from being lazy. I also lost my health insurance and now I am dealing with many health issues. I used my unemployment to pay my living expenses and and to pay bilsl, I had refused to go into bankruptcy. I no longer have a home to call my own, I am sleeping on a couch at a friends house and am eating their food. I have not had a unemployment check since June 12 and it looks like at the end of the month I will have to turn in my car to keep from getting it taken away. I like countless other Americans did not ask for this but this is what we were dealt now the leadership wants to pretend we do not exist.

      • Pamela Whiton says:

I feel your pain Peter, I worked at the same compnay for 18 years. My house is in foreclosure and my cehicle has already been reposessed. I have no family and rely on friends to get me to the grocery store, or I walk. I am to be 51 soon. We older workers are really in a jam because no-one wants us over the young folks. Everybody is in a very bad way here. I feel like it’s a small step of a giant plan the government has to reduce our county to 2 classes. Rich, and Poor. When a person has given all of their best working years, paid taxes, put up with all kinds of B.S. from government and their employers, basically worked their asses off to gain just a little slice of the american pie and now what is the reward? You use everything you saved from your 401k (if you even had one) to stay afloat now, hoping it will stretch along with your savings until this “phase” of unemployment passes. It doesn’t pass, and the money runs out…this is happening all over our country. Empty houses everywhere, while people are becoming homeless…where is the sense in that.? Just in my little neighborhood, I counted 7 houses the other day, empty, grass growing tall…why should we have empty houses and homeless people in our country? The stimulus money should have gone to american households rather than to the greedy pigs at the banks. They would rather loose money on a foreclosed home, than let someone live in it and take care of it for free. As far as unemployment goes…we need as many damned extensions as it takes to get us out of this living hell. The government is not creating jobs, more people are loosing them. Our country is being ruined by beaurocracts, and we are litterally devestated emotionally and financially. How do you put food on the table and a roof over your head with NOTHING??? There is only one answer sn’t there….Government assisted living. Food stamps and the rationing of other goods to be handed out (or not) at the whim of a system that used to be “For the People” and “By the People”. They are creatiing a “NEW POOR” class right before our eyes and we are allowing it..Give us our money and KEEP giving it to us !!! Reach into your million dollar wallet, give up some of youyr benifits, sacrafice some of your luxuries mr senetor. You may find yourself down in the gutter one day without the helping hand up.

I am with Susan, I too have been out of work for over a year now and have been working very hard at getting a job. I am 36 years old and have never seen anything like this. In the past two weeks alone I have applyed for approximately 50 jobs and not one interview! I have skills I want to work, I’m losing everything and I owe another $1,000 in Tax dollars from last year of being unemployed! I am not affiliated with any party, I just would like to see something done for the people of the United States of America. We are going down fast if you have a job you better open your eyes and really appreciate what you have. For one day you may get let go and what will you do? Because at this point there will be nothing out there for you even with experience and a education. I am sick with the senate right now. This filibustering has gone on way to long, And going on a break while millions of americans are losing the cars and homes that we so desperately tried to save a only year ago.

Peter, while I can go along with your remarks on the greed(both repubs and dems)I think you should do a little investigating and use your common sense to realize that it is Harry Ried and the dems that are blocking this extension. The republicans have already agreed to pass it if they will just take half of it from the stimulus package that the Obama administration is giving away to the rich and not using it to create any jobs anywhere. They have used it to bail out every Harry,Dick and Jane in the big corporate buisness and have not given a cent to the middle class that does the work to finance these bailouts.THINK ABOUT IT!

        • Joe Fellas says:

You are 100 percent CORRECT. All the money he gave out, i.e., Solyndra, well, where’s that money? It was supposed to HELP that enterprise, instead they went bankrupt and another 1200 people lost their jobs. It’s in SOMEONE’S name, I’m sure maybe in the Carribbean now. All the green companies he’s bailed out folded and more jobs lost. The Socialist in the white house should have been impeached long ago!. All he wants is his dictatorship, and to keep Americans so low, LOW, with extensions of benefits, that they will NEVER recover again. Soon, if he gets his way, it will be a welfare COUNTRY. Just what all our troops died for during WWII, to PREVENT things such as Socialism and the like from entering America. This country was made great and opportunity for ALL thru CAPITALISM. Just indict the dishonest ones, the crony capitalists, but you don’t DESTROY something that made America the great country it once was before the left-wing whacko destroyed it. Joe!

    21. Joe says:

Kyl is another cookie cutter , yellow bellied son of tricky Dick who has no heart or soul, unless its to his political gain, or at least thats what he feels. I ask everyone of us who has any family member or friend that is somehow connected to the media to ask Congress or to tell us how to find out , just what these bastards are appropriating and spending our money on while spewing out the fiscal responsibility line we are now hearing since the extended benefits bill was up for a vote. I can guarantee that there is more stupid, useless bullshit that Senators such as our boy Kyl have tacked onto bills that have passed and could have easily been cut rather than let your and my family go hungry. We should demand to see what these heartless, SOB’s are doing with our money and the freaking media should cover that instead of some asshole with a shit eating grin telling us we are all lazy, drug abusing, drunkards. Lets make those weasels explain where the social security monies went, why the country is in such enormous debt. It started with them and it still is. Now we are going to be left out on the street or we are going to be asked to kiss their fat asses for the morsel that is sheer existence. I love our brave women and men in the military and I always have supported them to the best of my ability, but the Defense Industry is driving the country bankrupt as those that are well connected suck all of Americans tax dollars for their own personal gain, and believe you me, you would be surprised who in the Senate benefits greatly. Sorry for being long winded but the only thing I am asking for is the truth. I know that we won’t get it but they, Congress, our elected officials, who are supposed to be representing us look at us with disdain and contempt. Lets make them earn at least a days pay or at least sweat like the pigs they are. God Bless America and damn those of use it for their own political and monetary gain.

      • Boyd Reid says:

About 6 months ago Secretary of Defense Gates made a plea to Congress to address the enormous waste being produced by our military. It’s unprecedented that a Secretary of Defense makes such a plea to our Congressional leadership. The article was just a blip on the main stream media coverarge. It was the first and the last article I have seen on the issue. Since then I have not heard one peep from anyone in Congress addressing this matter. It was Secretary Gates who also repeatedly chimed in during Congress’ voting on the Defense Appropriations Bill last year. He pleaded with them to cut the spending for billions of dollars of equipment that is of no use for the type of wars we are engaged. Spending billions for upgrading the engines on F16 fighter jets and other weapons that are unnecessary in fighting bands of camel jockeys in the desert for example. His requests fell on deaf ears mainly due to the political advantage Congressional members receive by feeding the defense contractors in their states. If the Secretary of Defense states the military has no use for certain types of weaponry that cost the taxpayers billions they should be obligated to strike them from the defense appropriations. To hell with the budget deficit caused by defense spending if it benefits these political puppets personally. Listening to Gates and reigning in waste and cutting appropriations for unnecessary defense spending would reduce the deficit 10 fold. Instead these Senators filibuster 33 billion to help people keep a roof over their head and food on the table. Throw them out on their heads! Or better yet send them to Afghanistan and Iraq to eat sand in their beloved war.

      • Boyd Reid says:

Kyl is a disgrace to this country. He supports continuing the Bush emposed tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans that are responsible for the current budget deficit second only to war spending. But seeing that the budget deficit is the #1 priority on the Republican agenda he sees it necessary to cut off the only source of income which the majority of the millions of unemployed depend on to survive to avoid adding to the deficit. I suggest he beef up his personal security detail. His is the most despicable of all the Republicans and that is saying a lot.

The part I don’t understand is how a person that has never done an honest days work in their life can have the nerve to call someone else lazy. They sit on their ivory towers and pass judgement on the men and women whose sweat built this great country. And all I hear is wait until November we can’t wait till November we need help now!!! Also your independent party is not much different they just have more drastic unrealistic views that shows they are as detached from reality as republicans and democrats. My extensions have run out too and it is difficult but I don’t condem those that are not passing the bill to extend benefits. They are not voting to eliminate the unemployment extension, they are voting against other items that have been tacked on to the bill that have nothing to do with unemployment benefits. That is the problem with Congress when they see something that is truly needed, such as an extension to unemployment, they load the bill up with other unrelated items that cause the defeat of the bill.

What we should be doing is writing our Congressional representatives to package a bill that only pertains to unemployment. I believe then the extension would be passed very quickly.

    31. John says:

THEY want me back at work …I want me back at work … Where are all the ” shovel ready ” jobs ?

      I can’t get hired at freakin’ McDonald’s because it’s full of Mexicans , Bosnians , Serbs , Croats , Nigerians , Poles , Russians , etc.

Please note – I didn’t quit OR get fired …I got laid off due to no work coming in the door . There are NO manufacturing jobs to be had . In the last 6 months , I’ve sent out over 250 resume’s and had 2 interviews . If someone would be so kind as to tell me where a job can be found I’ll be more than happy to go get it .

      • Joe Fellas says:

We need all the manufacturing jobs, corporations, to be brought back to U.S. I don’t care if they pay NO TAXES, as long as the hundreds of thousands of jobs are brought back to Americans. My first job at 17 years old, it never even entered my MIND if my bosses were paying too much or not enough taxes. NO ONE ever thought of that, but I’ll tell you, in those days you could walk into any office, factory, etc., and get a job very easily. Joe!

    32. Ivan Vargas says:

The right to pay taxes allows us to have benefit no matter what..! uhh. There is right? We are facing up a big problem? There is a huge problem with the economic system due to the state did not control it. The system does not have plan or are not prepare for emergency like we are face up on this moment. Something they should do to keep this country as always (the best and strong).

Most of the time analyzing the mistake in the pass, can correct those mistake in the future. On this moment a lot of people do not have food to put on their table and the Republican and Democrats are fitting to no release the bill, creating more problems to the same system. This problem can be fixing creating jobs for Americans, given people tool to cut the debit that the society involved us due to banks used to whatever they wanted to keep us making them rich and now we cannot pay.

Finally, the state should force those people that have been receiving unemployment benefit to go to school and educate themselves to contribute to make this society better for the future. But at the same time given JOBS. This is the most strong and number one country in the world so please help yourself so in that way we are helping The United State.

      Ivan Vargas

    33. Brigitte says:

      Kyl,

Your day in judgement day will come. Don’t think that all the riches and materials that this world offers will last because when your day is numbered no money or politic will “bail” you out and you will burn in hell. You are no different than any person so get right.

      • Frustrated with gvt says:

You are so right Brigitte. Just because these republicans wear suits, drive fancy cars, live in mansions, it does not make them any better or different then the criminal drug addict on the street who just mugged the last $20 from an old lady. They are “white color” criminals in Washington. If they don’t get their “judgement” from the American people in November (which would be a shame ) then they will get it later where their riches just won’t save them.

    34. Lisa says:

I have literally begged for jobs, degraded myself day in and day out. I live in Michigan, there is no jobs here. I have a college education, i have experience in more then 2 fields of work, but that dont matter right now because you are fighting for a job to someone who has a Masters degree over my Bachelors degree, even though the position requires associates degree. I went to a job interview 2 weeks ago with the best attitude, wore a professional suit outfit, i went in with great confidence only to be told..” we will call you”..before i would take that for a final answer, i sat back down and said to them…” I will gladly except a lower pay, please i need this job!” I never felt so hopeless in all my life while i was sitting there looking at this man thinking he is the one person who can make a difference in how i walk out of here today, and all he had to say was “your hired”…needless to say, that did not happen. So since then i have moved with my 2 kids in with my sister, who just lost her job just after the fourth of July holiday. And she is also a single mother with 3 kids. I guess she will have unemployment for a little while, but that does none of us any good. I need to be able to take care of my kids, i thank god my sister took us in. And another thing i had to do was go apply for welfare to feed my children and get them health insurance, i was so ashamed when i walked in there, i have never been on welfare ever my entire life, both my parents always worked and made good money, so this is new to me. I do know where i will be come November voting, and believe when i say that i know how majority of Michigan residents will be voting also. And to the Republicans who have done this nation dirty, and continue to do so, you can all go to hell, i am sure god will take care of you on your judgment day!!!!

    35. Just Fed UP! says:

Time to Go to Washington. May have to beg and borrow but it is time to maybe go sit on the senate steps and take names of the future unemployed senators!

    38. Deb says:

This guy is a sociopath, just like the rest of them! New work, Sociopublican! Can’t wait for November :)

    39. Harry says:

I am no fan of Kyl or Republicans in general but if you read what he said, he is simply wishing for a “perfect world” where everyone has jobs and the gov’t doesn’t need to pay UI, he does not say we should simply do away with it no matter what.

But to let this drag on while people are going homeless, etc., indeed to go on vacation while this happens is extremely shameful. I’m worried about the day when some desperate person tries to assasinate one of these senators or commits domestic terrorism in desperation. And Kyl is an extreme hypocrite when he blocks the UI extension on deficit grounds then says the Bush tax cuts should stay without any offset.

The real sad part is that more of his ilk will probably be in Congress next year not less. Too many people believe the bull about all of the long-term unemployed being lazy drug addicts, etc. Remember 2004, when people gave Bush a 2nd term because they were more concerned about how to define marriage or where life begins than their own economic and physical survival.

    40. mini says:

What the hell are they waiting for???? We need them to get down to business right now, today, and start the vote, never mind in a few weeks. Don’t they know the extend of the hardship that they are causing by not passing this bill. I have been unemployed since Oct. 08. I am a bookkeeper with 7 yrs. experience and an associates degree. I send out resume after resume with no luck. I got 1 interview for the whole year. I am wondering what we are going to do. Even if they pass this extension some of us may be alright for now but what about months from now. If things don’t change there will be a mass of people homeless and hungry. I lost my benefits in June but if they pass the extension I will have another 12 weeks or so. I am and have been on the verge of losing everything I have worked for, house, car, utilities. I would like to hear from President Obama…..please Mr. President, do something for us.

You are CORRECT!……our military who, if lucky enough, come back maimed get practically nothing. Our retired military get only half their pay for keeping us free and risking life and limb, and the politicians even with only ONE TERM SERVED get their full pay for life. It’s sickening! Joe

Another Republican that is trying to make the unemployed feel more desperate and in fear of not getting this unemployment extension. And they call themselves American. Could have fooled me.

How did this a**hole get elected?

    49. Dane says:

If Senate does not approve unemployment extensions before recess I urge unions to organize strikes on Labor Day all over the country. This looks to me same think happening like 1894 when US Marshals took side of the reach and start killing citizens. Now they are not killing them but living them to die. What is a difference?

    50. Edwin says:

Coming up with thirty-three billion dollars is the stumbling block in this matter. I would suggest that Congress fund the unemployment extension bill with tax money earmarked for financial assistance to foreign countries. The priority should be placed on assisting Americans rather than sending the funds offshore.

    51. Scott in AZ. says:

I wrote Kyl over 3 weeks ago expressing my frustration at the lack of jobs. I expressed even more frustration at State leaders for their lack of effort to create new jobs. I have supported Kyl in the past. I will be voting Independent across the board from now on. The Dems are adding unemployment to jacked up bills in hopes that our pressure will push Republicans to vote “Yay”. Republicans keep saying they are on board if it comes out of stimulus funds and yet never write or push their own bill. I don’t know about the rest of you but I am fed up with being a political pawn to be used by both party’s. As of this week, how many people have received eviction notices? I bet you that the eviction numbers jump nationwide this month. Do any of the people in office know how hard it is to find a new place to live when unemployed? Not to mention with a fresh new court judgment on their credit. I ask all of you to re-think your political stance. Ask yourselves, what shape would our country be in if we the people focused on and voted in people based on their love for our country and the Constitution. If everyone when registering to vote would choose Independent instead of the major party. That alone will open some of these out of touch, holier than thou, jack as es eyes.

Just my 2 cents. Sen. Kyl and Juan McCain can both count on me voting against them.

I am so ashamed of this sorry country, and the self centered idiots running it. All they care about is the damn elections. I have 3 sons risking thier lifes in a fucken useless war for our honorable congressmen. This is my sacrifice to what once believed to be a great country. When I need help they make me suffer. Whether it takes a week or a month does not matter to me now, I have 2 weeks to vacate, no money to pack, all utilities gone, I’ll never get the security deposit back. Car is next . The sad thing is I had a job offer out of state, NOW I CANNOT GET TO IT

    53. Lois says:

I don’t understand why it is so difficult for the Senators to vote YES for an exstension when the unemployment is so high in my state of FL.?? I’ve been searching everyday for a job to pay my bills and to buy food. While I’m doing this the Senators are on their second vacation. Somethings wrong with this picture. I do understand their concern about the total deficit, but I’m also wandering why they always seem to find a reason to kill the exstension? Americans have paid into these benifits all their working life, and now when we need help the most, we don’t get it. We always seem to have money for all other projects, and special intrest. I suggest they start taking care of this country first. I just want the Senators to understand they really shouldn’t get to comfortable with their job, as we Americans voted them in, we can just as well vote them OUT….
      WE NEED HELP NOW!!!!!!!!!!

Prayer is the greatest thing we can do……everything else will fall into its proper place…we have been living in such great prosperity for soooo long. When things get tough…you know the rest….it is sad however that those who have no inkling of how it feels to be in our position, make the decisions that seem to rule our lives…..count your blessings…and then when the time comes make the right choices for those that you vote for…

    55. Mark Rocha says:

Mass suicide at the National Mall? The sad thing is, it won’t work. And I hate to say it, but neither does writing to Senators and signing petitions. They aren’t read. What we have here is a congress, both Dems and Repubs, who have established themselves as a ruling class to starve out American ‘undesirables’.

I’m no sentimentalist when it comes to human life. I think it’s fairly cheap and flimsy. So I have no problem in stating that there are some people on this Earth who should pass away and stop breathing. A few off the top of my head- Ben Nelson, Joe Manchin, every foul, bloated Republican stinking up the hall of Congress, Will Nesmith (above) who defends Republicans and says everyone is to blame, (every Republican voted ‘no’ on extensions, 1 democrat did), the vile Jon Kyl, rotten John Bohner (pronounced ‘bon-er’ – he’s not fooling anyone), and every dirtbag elitist who believes that every unemployed person is smoking crack and giddily scheming how to get out of working.

We, as Americans, have only one trick up our sleeve- to vote out ALL incuments in November. Democrats are better people than Republicans, but that dosen’t mean their putrid snouts aren’t sunk into the vast money trench that is our current system. So vote ALL these crooks out of office. YES, we would be replacing Scumbag Group #1 with Scumbag Group #2, but the second group dosen’t have long-term relationships established with lobbyists and various interest groups, and by the time they try, it’s time for them to leave office and go back to their sales job at J.C Penny. (TERM LIMITS!! One and DONE!)

Maybe you’re saying, ‘I can’t do that. I like my congressman! He thinks like I do!’ Wake up. He or she dosen’t . You’re the abused trying desperately to establish a connection with your abuser so next time he dosen’t hit you quite as hard. Your loyalties to them make them laugh and compels them to respect you less.

If you’re a Republican, vote Republican. If you’re a Democrat, vote Democrat. But for the SAKE OF EVERYTHING HOLY- STOP GIVING THESE CURRENT DOUCHBAGS CARTE-BLANCHE TO RUN AMOCK AND RUIN THIS COUNTRY.

There are no patriots in government anymore. The only patriots remaining lies within the great citizenry of this great country. But we need a real strategy, and we need to shake ourselves out of compacency. George Carlin, toward the end of his life, said that the American people are ‘being bought off and silenced by gadgets and gizmos’, (iPhone, XBox, Facebook, Twitter). I hope that’s not the case. I hope there’s enough gumption in the American Spirit to take back our power in November. I know for certain if we lie down like sheep, they’re are plenty of savage career politicians who are more than willing to carry out the slaughter.,

we are our brothers keepers and we are suffering and no one is going to help us but us!!!!!!
we need to picket these pricks, and stand up, and let the whole world hear what we have to say!!! this is our country not the governments, not congress, not the Obama but ours!!!!!!!!
just like if we were union members, and didn’t like something our employer or what our union was doing to us!! we need to set up a picket lines all across America in major cities and towns fighting for our brothers and our selves, and we cant act like we don’t have the man power because all of you know, we are like 10 million strong!!! this is what we need to do, and now is the time!!!! this is our money we paid into it, just to see it go to wars and, banks and wall-street big shots ,now its like screw the unemployed , screw the American working man!!! well i say that bull s**t !!!!!! and we need to stand up for what is ours ,and what is right and, now is the time,………
      first things first ….
if we have no control over the government, so we have to go in this order ……
1>>> call the local unions even if your not members,
we need to get them involved because
they have the voice and the know how to get these things together,
then we start marching through our streets with our picket signs, and shut down traffic if we shave to!!! this will get make congress listen to us “power to the people”
2>>>>> we need to get a bill together that states if u are an American company u can not !!!! can not !!!!! outsource to any company outside of America……….
lets bring the USA back to the USA
      !!!!!!!!!!its time for change
we need leaders if u feel like you are one of these people we need to get the unemployed together post signs up in your neighborhoods call meetings in public places like parks etc….. once u have more them enough people then u rally up the up the troops, and hit the streets with your picket signs and shut down traffic, once that happens a buzz will be created, and the media will be all over it and the government will be afraid and have to pass it !!!!!! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE APART OF THIS MOVEMENT PLEASE EMAIL ME

    57. Dee NY says:

Kyle, Where do you and your co-senators get your reasoning? Study after study will show you that exteding unemployment insurance is better than not. The studies that show the unemployed would rather live on these checks than get a job are not accurate, simply they are not speaking to the economic melt down caused by your party, 2% of richest Americans, overseas deals, two wars and so on. The unemployed today are not your unemployed of yesterday? They are not joined by race, age, industry or anything else. They are a diverse group of Americans that have given up and lost a great deal. They all had to be working at a good wage for a significant time even to qualify for the $300 wkly amount. They all were tax payers and worked very hard to insure you rich guys got all the breaks. The outcome of ignoring these Americans hasn’t even been thought of yet. You should be ashamed and you can not look at your self as a great American or even valuable to the human race. What all of you republicans are reminding me of is that Mr. Potter in its a wonderful life and Scrooge. All of you going to be remembered as Hoover economics repeats, inept and dangerous to the survival of the American dream.
Isn’t anyone in your family telling you that you are a jerk or all of your family members as nuts as you? Get out of the bubble and start doing what the American working people put you there to do, and I don’t mean the 2% of the richest Americans. Oh by the way there is no way in hell those tax breaks are getting extended. See you in November republicans

    58. Mick says:

Go ahead good people and vote for those Republicans running for office in 2010. This is but a taste of what they plan to bring. More for the wealthy, more for the corporations and banks, nothing for you!

    60. formerrepub says:

time to revolt people and drag these punk arse wimps form their chairs and throw them out of our the peoples Senate building.

    61. John Jubert says:

Kyl shoud be voted out of office. He will also bring the other republicans down with him.
He’s the reason there should be one term limits. There are always going to be people collecting unemployment when they could be working but there are very few of them today since there are NO JOBS.
There’s nothing to apply to so what’s going to happen to the country when the benefits stop getting paid?

There will be more foreclosures causing housing to fall further, companies earnings will go down since there be less consumers spending at all, not to mention the dramatic increase in homeless people.

I’m an independent so I don’t care which party is in office; they need to make sound decisions. The extension of the benefits at 9.5% unemployment is a no brainer. From a political stand point, extend them through the elections; otherwise there will only be democrats in congress.

    62. Paul bland says:

This situation with the unemployment extension is beyond belief. Regardless of the outcome it is time to start protesting against this government of sold-out, un-American liars. The Republicans are fascist filth. If nothing else then local protests against the senate. And where the h___ is our President in all this. He is that ineffectual? He can do nothing? Why doesn’t he get very angry and make a public statement in support of the millions of Americans being held hostage by this? Unemployment has not been this bad since the 1930s and they’ll be setting up Hoovervilles soon–and no comment from our President.?!!! PROTEST AGAINST THIS GOVERNMENT.

    63. RayT says:

This will never get passed. The senate all of pay for is not responding to the basic needs of the very people who put them in office to start with. (when we had jobs) we paid those taxes to put them there to do the peoples business. We also paid the taxes to bail out the banks and wall st and GM and God knows who else. When my country called upon me I did not hesitate I enlisted in the Navy and when I got out I worked all my life and never once asked this gov”t for a dime until now that I have no job and now no income.
My country has turned its back on me and millions of others. Folks at the end of this month there will be 3.0 million out of benefits. So whats next. Well you can put your head in the sand and hope it gets passed or you can act. Take this to the streets all across America. Those bastards can not ignore 3 million people. It only takes a spark to start a forest fire. Look what happened in Oakland Ca last week over a verdict. A verdict folks. Is this not much more than a verdict. I hate to say it but the senate is not going to do the right thing until someone gets hurt or worse God forbid but I fear that is what this is coming to. If the senate goes on recess in Aug 6th there will be a horrible backlash. They will be gone for a whole month can you even think of what will happen if they do that. I would bet they will do just that and see what happens then.. Folks there is no more dangerous animal on the planet than a man or woman who has nothing to lose. If the senate thinks someone will not hold up a 7-11 or shoot someone to feed a hungry child they are mistaken. This is what it is coming to and the senate is willing to take that chance. I hope I am wrong but somehow I don’t think I am. I fear the worse is yet to come. It is horrible to see all this happening in America but it is and we need to do something about it. The president is putting his head in the sand and the media is not reporting whats going on either. Ask yourself why. If a cat is stuck up a tree the media is all over it for days and somehow they ignore this. In the news business it goes something like this (if it bleeds it leads) thats the only thing that will get the attention it needs and I pray that never happens. No one should be put into this kind of dispare no one.

    64. Margie says:

    65. MR says:

      @Peter
I stopped reading your comment after you said that the 99ers have had enough. Then I gave you a second chance and you messed that up and said ppl should move to other states to find employment?!? You appear to be a genius (I guess) so since your are not doing anything, could you please draw up a blueprint that would help me better understand how Im supposed to pick up and move to another STATE while receiving 200 dollars a week from UI…… that I have not gotten since JUNE 12th!!!!!

I don’t even know where I am going when they put the locks on my doors, and my unemployment is almost out. I have one friend (God-bless her) who can help me IF I can pay half the rent. All of the things I’ve worked my life away for must be sold or left behind. WE THE PEOPLE do need to really speak up! We have been dogged long enough and we have trudged through changes and losses and now our very lifestyle is corroding before us like a sunken ship of fools. Did I pay taxes? Did I pay in to Social Security? Yes, Did I help corporate america and the banks by purchasing their products while employed? YES….!!! Now I am being sued and left for homeless. I am not in disbelief as I see a deeper plot unfolding here (as many do) it has been a foundation of deceipt in our government that has layers upon layers of lies and corruption built upon american ignorance and false bliss. They knew we weren’t paying attention to all the small adjustments they have been slowly making to our freedoms…soon they we will have been so passive that we let our lives slip right through thr beaurocratic strainer. Awefull !!!!

    68. TMP says:

WITHOUT TIER 5 I’M DONE! I am a 47 yr old male worked since 16. I have applied for sooooo many jobs over the last year and a half. I took 2 temp to perm jobs in that time, only to get laid off by both and had to go back to collecting unemployment just to pay the basics of staying a living civil human. I applied for about 100 jobs in the month of June. I have had 5 interviews in the last 2 weeks. still no job. No telling why. I just don’t seem to get picked. No phone calls to let me know. Not a word… I just received my final unemployment check, a partial check at that. $125. Without a tier 5 that’s it. Over down. No income what so ever. I’m completely broke with out even a chance to continue. Less than half the rent is paid for July. The rest of this week and next I will be struggling to land a job. I will also be throwing the few things I still own after selling anything I had that I could sell. That was done over the last year, parting with my things just to get by. The $279 a week unemployment didn’t cover everything. It did however allow me to survive with a roof over my head. It allowed me to pay the phone and electric and gas to get to interviews. I still had a chance to get back in the game. Now I am striped of that dignity. The only roof I will have now is a 1989 Nissan. I hope to fit a few of the things like clothes, my computer, some old pictures, etc. I’m sure there won’t be room for much. I’m moving across state in with Mommy & Daddy. We are very dysfunctional. Dad who has leukemia will be down my throat and kicking me out by day 2. My 76 year old mother will be crying a lot. I will end up leaving homeless with no where to go. I have self pride and dignity to the point that you won’t see me begging on the corner or holding up a sign in the streets. I would rather die! I will make that as public as possible. If we do still have freedom of speech I would like to end by telling all you F-ing A-holes in politics that you truly are F-ing A-Holes. Democrats, Republicans, whatever your all crooked in your own ways and have run this country to the ground. That’s all my opinion and my right to freedom of speech allows me to express it. My ancestors and close family members fought and died for this country. Little did they know it was all in for something they would not have supported. They would have never fought for what has become of America.

    69. MARY says:

Kyl is discusting…right up there with all the other politicans republicans and democrats….i will no longer
be voting, period! Once you politians get into office, you never have to worry about heathcare, pensions,
bonuses, pay increases, where your next meal comes from. I have worked my whole life and my job was outsourced overseas thanks to the government allowing big businesses to make money hands over fist. The politicians allowed this because big business lines your pockets so they can continue to make big profits. Big corporations, what do they care about the US people? All they care about are there bottom lines and profits.
This country has gone to hell and hopefully all the politicans will lose their golden parachuts and findout what its like to not be able to find a job….you go on your little vacations and breaks. Politicians are a bunch
of idiot lawyers that have driven our country into the ground….

    70. Sharon says:

I agree with the people’s comments about the senators not receiving pay after they are out of office let go back out into the world and get a job so they will depend on that paycheck and if they lose their job to another country such as Mexico then they can do without money like we are doing right now. I have been to school got a degree in Business Management and I have not found a job but I have been looking I have filled out application after application and have not had an a phone call for an interview. SO what are we suppose to do??????? And another thing is all the Presidents still living and drawing their big pay take it away and let them get a real job. Good Luck there is no jobs. They can go to work for $7.00 and hour and see if they can pay their high class of living in Washington or where ever they are. America has lost its PRIDE because our government has done it to the people. Our government does not care about anyone but THEMSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      EXTEND OUR BENEFITS!!!!!!!!!!
I just want to say a few things regarding this issue. My unemployemnt benefits ran out and I have no insurance and to top it all off I had Idenity Theft of over 1,000. taken from my bank account which was all the money I had. Its time for the American People to take a stand, after all we have jobs and just time on our hands. To top it all off even more I have called my credit card company and asked for a lower payment and they said and I quote ” They could not help me and they do not have a policy in place to help people”. Then I called the company who stole from me who was no other than Apple computer Apple I tunes. They said they could not help me. That was it. I contacted the FBI, I contacted Steve Jobs by 4 different emails and every day I send them all over again. NO response. I have contacted MSMBC and Oprah to somehow get this nationwide. Apple has been having this problem for years and thousands of people are getting ripped off everyday. It is a crime. No one cares. I say we stop spending millions of dollars overseas to help third world countries and help our own people. Congress take a pay cut. I have worked hard for 40 years and paid my taxes and paid my bills and had excellent credit, not I find myself in a situation which I did not cause and NO ONE WILL HELP ME. I say somehow we all band together and take a step towards changing something in our system. This is outrageous that people are going homeless and their credit is going bad. We soon will be a third world country. Wow isn’t that exciting

I will not give up because these things are in injustice and maybe there is something in our civil rights that we can fight for.

      I will not quit.

Why does it take people to be outraged for anyone to listen????????????????

I will be researching my senators and congressman and believe me I can research.

Well I have said my peace for now.

After they’ve hollowed out and gutted our economy, creating in its place on of bubbles and speculation, printing money and stealing from working people, the scum that we called our leaders decide it’s time to clamp down on spending. If this isn’t enough to push us into action I don’t know what is. We now have a force of millions of very pissed off people out there! Let them know that you vote, that you want a job and that you are going to make them pay!

I have one more thing to say, something to think about.

I have respected and admired all of our military men and women. I was married to a marine.

But just let me tell you WAR IS MONEY.

Why do you think we get involed in war. Go back and research JFK ‘s assaination and really find out why he was assainated. It was over the Vietnam War.
He did not want the war, but WAR IS MONEY. All the large corporations and companies that benefit from the war and these corporations have the congress in their back pocket.

Every war has make alot of people rich, who in turn give money for campaigns.

THINK ABOUT IT. MAKES SENSE DOESN’T IT.

Don’t take my word for it, research and you will find it.
How much money is spent on budget for war. Take that money and take care of your own, before there is a war right here.

your all a bunch of cry babies….have you forgotten that we live in a capitalist country and not a socialist one….it is up to you to support yourself and your family….maybe you should have done some better planning when you were young and gotten a better education and training…..maybe you should have done a better job saving and planning for retirement…..you cannot expect the government to support you because you cannot support yourself

I can see how education has made the opposite effect on you, because instead of getting smarter. Your just a BIG mouth MORON. I’ll tell you what, right now in case you don’t know it and obviously you don’t, there are just as many people with college dregrees up their (you know what) looking for jobs too. I’ve have worked all my life since I was 16 and never expected the help of no one to make my living. However I got a lay off because my boss couldn’t afford me anymore and he decided to fill my desk and do the work himself. The bottom line is this: the millions of unemployed people who are asking the insensitive idiots from Washington to pass this bill are not unemployed out of choice, but to no fault of their own, like me.
Keep counting your blessings for now and pray that what you’re saying it’s not going to boomerang on you. Out of your tongue your heart speaks. Further more, the unemployment benefits is an Insurance fund that all of us who have been working for many years have been paying into, This is our own freaking money. And no, this Country was not built by Republicans but was built on democratic Godly principles. And in case you haven’t read the Constitution of the United States, I suggest that you do. And maybe you’ll learn that the Goverment was designed to represent the people and to serve and protect us through Constitutional amendements. You are way out line by saying what you just did. I hope that karma will get to you sooner or latter. And by the way, it is people like you that give this country a bad name! You’re a disgrace! (you genius). Like I said, keep counting your blessings. Nothing lasts forever.

We need to make every senator that is blocking this bill lifes tough. Go on their websites fllod them, on that website also has a contact and fax number flood those also. We can’t just complain on these blogs we have to do our part. Flood those lines. They don’t read these articles so writing on this is good to releave some frustration but doesn’t afect them. All those Senators are millionaires (Kyl, McConnell, Ben Nelson etc) that is why they don’t get it.

Washington (Democrats and Republicans)(Senate, House and White House) are traitors to the American people. They have stabbed the unemployed Americans in the back and went on vacation. They are to worried about their political party’s and not about America. I am not a tea partier. I am now unemployed. Jobs maybe plentiful where you are located, but my community relies heavily on the auto industry. If an extension is not passed I will lose my house, car and what way of life I have left. I feel like I am in the majority of the unemployed.

      Kyl has no clue…….

I applied for a job yesterday and left feeling raped. I had to fill out a 30 page pre interview questionaire that took almost 2 hours to complete. I had to answer questions in essay form for my last 4 employers going back to 1990. They also required me to include my SS# as any applications not having the SS# would not be considered for an interview. All this for a $12 an hour customer service job. There were about 20 people all cramped in this little room, scratching their heads and agonizing over this whole process. I drove 60 miles round trip to apply for this job, and when I completed my application all I got from the greeter was thank you very much, we will call you for an interview if we think you are a good fit for our company………

Nice………..gas is over $3 a gallon, I had to hire a babysitter for 3 hours and my jobless benefits are all but gone. Tomorrow the phone gets turned off….so……even if I do get an interview, I won’t get the call………..

This was in the news today. I guess the man of the hour can neither read nor do basic math calculations.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Job openings dropped in May from the previous month and layoffs edged up, fresh evidence that employers are reluctant to add workers.

The decline in openings comes after a sharp rise the previous two months, driven by temporary government hiring for the 2010 census and more openings in the private sector.

The Labor Department said Tuesday that job openings fell to 3.2 million in May from 3.3 million in the previous month.

Cheryl, It depends on “when” you lost your job. My husband lost his job April1, 2009 and hasnt received a check for 3 weeks now. I guess it depends on which tier level you came in on????

I have been unemployed for quite sometime now but since becoming unemployed I have gone back to school and I have still been looking for a job but it’s not easy here in Columbus, OH. Everything that I am qualified for I can’t get because you have to at least have decent credit and well I got laid off and it was either have a car or a roof over my childrens heads so I chose to have my car reposessed and move to a cheaper apartment (which is a shithole). I never wanted this to happen and formy girls to have to share a room but it happened and it’s not my fault. My husband was also laid off at the same time that I was but luckily he got a job but we can’t afford everything on just his pay and without my unemployment we’re screwed again. I have even desperately tried to get a fast food job but I was told that I was over qualified. How can you be over qualified and not get a job!?! So when it comes down to it and I find a shitball job that I am qualified for but the pay is horrible do I take it to help ends meet even though I have to pay a sitter. That’s really not helping matters. I’m stuck between a rock and hard place as a mother. I’m going to school full time to help make life better for my kids and I have a year left til I graduate and hope then that I will find a job making enough money to not have to worry that I have to pay 200 a week for a baby sitter. Plus gas and home bills. I don’t waste my unemployment. Hell I don’t even have the money to buy my oldest her school clothes and let’s not even discuss how last Christmas was. I think that the government needs to stop giving tax breaks to the rich. Their rich they can afford to pay taxes as for us “little” people help us out.

    86. MandiP says:

This Senator, as well as many others concern me for three reasons – one, they seem to be out of touch with what is happening in their own constituency, two, they slept during American History class and three, they don’t know that Ronald Reagan is dead. Unemployment is high in the USA right now, and not because people do not want wish work, it is because employers laid off and are NOT creating new jobs. The compeition for ANY job is staggering and folks over 35, educated and qualified have it the hardest. If these Senators from their fancy Ivy League schools would have paid attention in American History and International History classes, they would have no problem in extending benefits for it they do not, they can surely expect the Conditions that happened after WWI and led into WW2. That is, unless they want to create WW3 which seems to be a good possibility with the Republican faction. And Ronald Reaga is dead. I don’t give a crap how many streets, buildings, airplains, ships and birthday celebrations are named for him, he was one of the worst Presidets in Modern History. He was out fo touch with the American people, te American economy and was the best actor in office we had to date. His comments of Unemployment as a “paid vacation” is what is rning with these Republicans, not what is happening now. UI is not welfare, the American worker earned it through their blood, sweat and years; and instead of paying YOU Senator, the American worker rather it goes back to them when they need it the most and until YOU Senator get off your behind and halp the American Employer in creating new jobs.

    99. Brent says:

I am unemployed, and I want these benefits as much as any of you. I am angry at everyone who is stopping them from coming to pass. However, I hate seeing anyone misquoted.

The article says that Kyl said that “cutting unemployment benefits” was “a necessary evil.” However, read the quote for yourself. That is not what he said. He is saying that providing extended unemployment is “a necessary evil” and I agree with him. It is evil (aka it sucks) that we have such high unemployment that it makes these measures necessary, but they are necessary.

Both sides want the benefits to pass. Our problem is that they can’t agree about how to pay for it, and neither side will give in.

I am angry at the republicans for their stubbornness in refusing to pass the measure, but I am at least as upset at the democrats for refusing to propose the extended unemployment as by itself without all the stuff that the republicans won’t support.

Just my two cents. Take it for what it is worth

Brent, I honestly don’t see how you get that out of his quote. Actually I don’t understand the quote at all, it is VERY poorly written or spoken, whichever it was!

“It’s a necessary evil in a sense. You’d like not to have raise revenue in order to pay people for not working – or not to pay them for not working, but because they can’t get work. You want them to get work so you don’t have to pay them. It’s something the government would just as soon not have to do if it could avoid it.””

I just want a job not a check that pays me $30,000 less then I was making a year while employed, but unfortunately that check was keeping me alive. Went to food assistance and got a a small bag with barely enough food for 2 days and I have to wait 30 days before I can return. All the dairy items they gave me were already spoiled. Maybe its the illegals that have the jobs that nobody wants. I tell u this I’d wash dishes or clean toilets for 10 bucks an hour. But an illegal has the job for less than minimum wage. Look at dinning at Mcdonalds, 7 bucks for a Big Mac meal? And who is behind the counter, an illegal with phony papers. What chance do I have. And another thing everyone thinks John Kyle makes 174K per year. No he get double pay due to his minority whip position. Anyone with a title in congress or senate makes extra pay. There is always someone else who will respect the President and the people. Both are going to hell anyways. Also.. they are making the President and what he wants look bad. If you can’t respect the President and most Republicans don’t … there is something radically wrong here. Also..If John Kyle and Feingold..<<. people will throw away their Badger Care Card … all pissed off and not pay doctors.. but.. they can still go to urgent care and emergency rooms and run up bills. The money will go threw the roof on state funding.. and will run out and there will be crime.. and protests and it will be ten times worse of a deficit. This is one of our chosen leaders???? What a horses.ass… Anyone with half a brain knows that the economy is still very fragile at this point. Any reduction of the cash that goes directly into the economy, that is spent with in a 30 day window will result in a double dip recession in this country. Where did this guy get his education?? On the back of a box of Captain Crunch?????

I worked for 23 years before my store was forced to close last year. I, and my employer, paid into the unemployment fund for 23 years. For this i got 5 months of unemployment. No extensions, No explanation. No nothing. For the first time in my life i am really sick and discusted with my government.

JON KYL is a A$S H*LE ,cutting unemployment doesn’t effect the food on his table or his comfortable air conditioned home. Thank you you worthless ignorant turds on capitol hill.Freedom reigns supreme for the privileged.

    117. Dirk Diggler says:

Benefits will probably be restored people, yes it should have been before the July 4th recess, but later is better than never. The hold-up was the unfortunate death of the Democratic senator from West Virginia- he was the 60th vote. Yes, leave it to Congress to not pass this because of the death of one person. The interim Senator was supposed to be appointed Friday, but now supposedly Sunday. I strongly believe an extension will be passed next week. What goes into the extension? After all I’ve been reading, I’m guessing that people who have not received their 99 total weeks will continue to receive those benefits, until a date the idiots choose comes up and we have to deal with whether they extend it again, like what is happening now. If you have already received your 99 weeks, unfortunately you are probably SOL, but people on some level of extension will probably start retroactively receiving checks ( a month’s worth) the week after next. Hang in there.

I have one promising thing going right now for work in my field. Wish me luck, because opportunities are so very few and far between in this economy.

This is a voice of the devils advocate. We being the unemployed, middle class, majority holding party in this nation. But for decades we have allowed the republicans to sale us short for the rich every election. They continously get the votes from us that allow them to know that we don’t matter. Look at the former President that not only single handedly created this mess, but has since pasted it on. Now today we are looking at starving, homelessness, jobless, and BROKE. Ask yourself, do you really think they care. No, the reason because people like us and they know will continue to vote these NONE supporters of the poor, and middle class americans. Yes, I am mad with Democrates right now, but they have not totally over looked us. They are trying to help the poor, and middle class, but keep running into a brick wall with the republicans. I will never weigh, or give any respect to a republican only because they are not for the american people. They have been from day of time for the mighty green dollar, the wealth, and the powerful. If you are not in one of those categories then you don’t exist. There is one way out of this mess, and that is to send a CLEAR MESSAGE to Washington, by voting for all Democrates at every election this year, and 2010. By doing this it will send a Bright message that we not as a Democrate, or republican, but as ordinary citizens of the United States of America will start to take back our control in Government. As it states this country is Governed by the people of the United States, and not the other way around. We need to open our eyes (WIDE). At the same time we will be sending a even stronger message to the Democrates, saying if you don’t act accordingly then we will pull the rug from under you guys. What better way to show Washington that we as Citizen are tired of them playing with our lives, and selling off our childrens future to other countries. We need to come together under one accord, that being just an AMERICAN. Not a Democrate, nor republican, or any thing else for that reason. Just being an AMERICAN.

“We the people” will not stand for this any longer! “We the people” have the power and we will strike with harsh action. I have been a republican my whole life, but no longer. Keep your head up everyone. When we all get back up on our feet, start researching the many way to become tax exempt. It is possible to become tax exempt. In my opinion, if the government will not think of the people first, then why should we take part in funding these scumbags. There is no law that says that ordinary citizens have to pay taxes.Do some research on it. They are playing with fire and they won’t get away with it any longer!

I have lost my house and car.I’m getting ready to lose my house again. A person can only take so much. I have worked and paid into the system since I was 14 years old. I lost my job last year.Voting no will result in more foreclosures, higher crime rates and more homeless.

There are so many people out there that have been living off the government for 10 + years. Those are the ones that should e kicked off the system. Not the hard working Americans. ARE YOU HEARING ME SCUMBAGS!!!?? ALL OF YOU THAT VOTE NO WILL BE VOTED OUT!!! THIS IS OUR F*CKING COUNTRY, NOT YOURS!!!! YOU WORK FOR US!!!!

My advice to all of you…..research ways to become more independent (YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY TAXES), join a local militia and demand your rights as an American, try as hard as you can to stay positive and last but not least, VOTE THIS SCUM OUT OF OFFICE. Also, everyone tell 5 people that they are not obligated to pay tax and have them research it. Have them tell 5 people and so on.Keep it going.

I feel for you all as I am one of you. Be strong for your families sake. Peace, love and eventual happiness.

We have got to unite and get each and everyone of these waste of flesh senators out of office. Listen to me America. We have to bring them down one by one. They are suppose to be our represenatives? They represent the rich. Are you rich?
We need help organizing. Anyone got any ideas? I know we will get the extention but I will never forget how they held our lives in hostage. We can not allow them to serve another term. I don’t care if it takes making calls to voters in every state. We should be able to get list when their elections time comes up.
We may have to go undercover as Republicans.. I don’t know. I’m a little crazed right now. I don’t have money to pay for August rent. I don’t know what to do. I’m scared and angry. I live in Arizona for now. I can’t wait to vote against John McCain and I will lobby that everyone else does the same. John Kyle and John McCain both are way out of touch with the people of Arizona. They both voted against the unemployment extension. Don’t they know how many people in Arizona are out of work? I have lost all trust in them. I now know I can’t even look to them for any problems to be solved in this state or the country. Kyle has 2 years left in office I won’t be in this state long enough to vote against him but I will always remember and pass on the information how he feels about the lazy people in Arizona that just wants to collect their $240.00 a week (probably the lowest in the country) instead of getting a job. What kind of thinking is that? Watch C-Span. See these Senators in action Democrats against Republicans. They sure talk good but do they do any good! I am confused.

    124. Bonnie says:

I am so very upset over all of this! I am 64 years old and have never had to draw unemployment and the one time that I do, I’m made to feel like I am “stealing” the money. Sitting back, just living off unemployment and having a great time. Well, first of all, you don’t have a great time on unemployment – there isn’t enough money to live it up. Secondly, I WANT A JOB….but I think at my age, it’s very difficult to find one. I have plenty of skills and believe me, I want to pay my own way. I want to work but I can’t find anything. It makes me very angry that we are giving all this money to the wall street people and banks and everything else and we can’t take care of our people. I am within a week or two of loosing everything and I am just filled with anger! Please people, let’s do something……..we need help!!

      • Bonnie says:

AND another thing. I applied for food stamps. Can you imagine….a strong talented woman, 64 years old, worked hard her entire life, applying for food stamps. I am mortified and when I went to the store today and used my card, I stood in line and cried………………………..

    125. Chris is talking: says:

Yes, just like I stated before! What this country need is a group that represent ordinary americans. Nothing like the Tea Party, nor the NAACP. This group needs to be about people, and their basic needs that they want from our Government. With that said, we would need to send a strong message to Washington, showing them that they now have our attention. One way I of doing this is by voting Democrate across the ballot this November, and in 2010. I only went with the Democrates because right now they are the “lesser of the two evils”. The republicans don’t mind if we starve, get evicted, or just loss everything. But at least the Democrates are fighting to get us Unemployment extension. We need a group called “American United”, for which if you are a citizen of the United States of America you would belong. Just making, and sending comments is not going to get us NO Where!!!!!!!!!! Time to put on the gloves….

      • Bonnie says:

I so agree Chris. I’m planning on voting straight Democrat…..that’s the only way we can make our voices heard is through the vote….and I am exercising my right to vote those bozos out!!!

    126. Cathy says:

It’s this simple. Jon Kyl has a job and money so there is no possible way he can understand the plight of unemployed America.

I started working when I was 16 and have held full time positions for 30 years. Suddenly, 2 years ago, I found myself unemployed through no fault of my own. Because I was dedicated to my job and often worked 60-70 hours per week, I never took the time to finish my degree. Since I lost my job, I have taken a student loan (which I will have to pay back) and I am going to school full time. In addition I have had a couple consulting jobs over the last 2 years but I have also been trying to secure a fulltime position to no avail. Jon Kyl, how dare you deny me the benefits my employers have been paying on my behalf for 30 years! Shame on you!

The last thing America needs is the unemployed turning in their houses, condos, cars in foreclosure or leaving their rented apartments to become homeless. That is what will happen if we do not at least get our unemployment benefits that we have paid into; me for 30 years. Jon Kyl . . . you need to move on because you no longer care about the plight of the American people.

It is a tough time in America, we all know that . . . now is not the time to simply say, cut unemployment benefits . . .now is the time to find a solution to get us all over the hump! That is what YOU get paid for John Kyl . . . take the hint and move on or find a solution that works for America! Stop the nonsense and earn the money WE are paying you!

    129. Chris is talking: says:

Bonnie, please count your blessings, because when I applied for food stamps they turned me down. Reason being I received to much money, and how funny is this when the only money I had was what I received from unemployment. For which I have not received in almost a month in a half so far. I really don’t know how I will pay my bills starting next week, but may the LORD bless me. I know that it is not just hard for you, and me, but for millions of others who are in the same shoes we are wearing. But all I want is American to finally come together in November and send a LOUD message, that we will for once make a difference. That we the people should have a government for the PEOPLE, and by the PEOPLE; and not a bunch of rich, arrogant, self serving idiots that we have in Washington today. So we need a new Dream, and I am not talking about a Martin L King dream, but a dream of a new GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!

      • Bonnie says:

I had applied earlier but could not get it because I had unemployment…now I don’t have it so I applied again and got it = so maybe try again. Funny thing happened today — I thought I would try calling cc companies, that’s what they tell you to do….to try and perhaps just pay the interest and you know what that got me???? From Bank of America no less (a company my tax dollars help bail out) – it got me a note on my credit report, lowered my credit and no help with the payment. Told me if I got a job to call them back and let them know and maybe they could help me then. Does that make any sense to you? If I had a job, I wouldn’t need any help. So don’t call your cc companies – they are just making me go towards bankruptcy which is something I don’t want to do – if they would just work with me – so I don’t know how I am going to pay bills starting next week either.

    130. Chris is talking: says:

Now we are getting some where, with the list that popickens has provided. By voting against all republicans in November will work, if we all do our parts. It is time for a little shaking, and baking to be done with Washington. We just need to keep in mind that the unemployed workers are the majority today, and that we have the power to change our own futures. We will no longer allow government to protect Wall Street, nor big businesses at the expense of the poor/middle class, and main stream people. It is time for this country to reinvest in the people, and the time for the people investing in these companies or over. Let cause some havac!!!!!!!

    131. popickens says:

this list i posted was off senator sessions website where they provide voting record i in no way realized 99% republicans voted ney all exept 1 . I’m only trying to make people aware of which senator voted which way so you can contact them personally and ask them for a job….

      • Bonnie says:

Thanks for the list – very telling — vote these people out people!!! That’s funny = ask them for a job….just might do that. I asked Bank of America for a job when they turned me down for help with my cc payment. LOL!

    132. Roy says:

I feel sorry for the unemployed in Arizona to have such a nitwit on the public dole; oh, elected official. Here in Pennsylvania we have our own heartless moron, Tom Corbett, and he is even running for governor. Corbett told the unemployed that there are plenty of jobs in the state but they are too lazy to accept them. Imagine he insulted five hundred thousand unemployed people; not to mention those whose benefits ran out and are no longer counted. Some estimate the real number could be closer to a million. Guess who could be looking for a job after the November elections?

What I would like to say is that even if the benefits are restored it will be no reason to relax. Don’t forget how those morons treated you and your family. Vote them out of office and don’t replace them with another Republican because they all take their marching orders from their party.

    133. Trina Hendry says:

The unemployment issue is scary. The republicans are so comfortable in their seats, that they are willing to say to the millions of registered unemployed, you don’t scare us. They have such a nonchalance attitude, that they are willingly thumbing there noses at those who have worked all of their lives, and because of no fault of their own are now jobless. I read the comments on so many of these blogs about our voting power for November, but the Republicans who vote no, and announce the unemployed are unemployed because they are lazy are not afraid of losing their jobs. Their fight against health reform was fought by the tea parties. The unemployed cannot afford parties, let alone tea. The dignity of Americans is up for a vote hopefully on July 20. The lobbyist for the unemployed are supposed to be our elected officials. Wall Street is blamed for most of our troubles and maybe so, but our elected officials have a bigger responsibility, they court the lobbyist that shop for their vote for big business, the banks were allowed the rope given to them again, by our elected officials. Whether Rep or Dem, we the “lazy” “unimportant” little people who as the economy remains the same may not have jobs by Nov. will the fortitude to monitor our elected officials closely. We can watch them because we won’t be too tried from putting in a full days work. The blogs that are mounting up so rapidly will keep us well informed of their antics. Then we show them how much power we have. We are educated, proud Americans. And we will vote you out. Then maybe job will be created so that we don’t have so much time on our hands to watch them so closely.

    135. Ofelia says:

I am unemployed because AZ is an “at will employer” state. I won my unemployment case against my giant employer but I’m having a hell of a time finding a job. I filed a gender discrimination charge with the Attorney General and got a letter to sue but I don’t have the money to sue anyone. I wonder how many people out there are jobless because of this “At Will” law like myself. I see my “world wide” previous employer to blame for the state I’m in. I wish I didn’t have to ask for unemployemnt benefits. I’m more than willing and able to work but I can’t make anyone give me a job. The extended benefit would bring a little releif. It’s better than nothing. This is a very depressing time for me. I don’t see congressmen understaing my pain. They live a very sheltered rich life.
