The headline “Ultimate Survival Alaska Jimmy Gojdics Shot Dead” has an entire community mourning and has sparked a debate on gun control.
Jimmy Gojdics
of Ultimate Survival Alaska died after getting shot multiple times. In a brief statement issued by Alaska State Troopers, it was revealed that over the weekend, Jimmy Gojdics, aka Jimmy Gaydos, was found lying in front of his home in Old Elliot Highway in Fairbanks.

Alaska authorities say that Mr. Gojdics was “suffering from apparent gunshot wounds” and died as he was being transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. The troopers have revealed that they were called to the home around 3 p.m. on Sunday after someone heard shooting at Gojdics’ residence.

They have ruled the death of the reality star and river and wilderness guide as a homicide. According to Trooper spokesman Tim Despain, Gojdics’ body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Jimmy Gojdics, 69, was a competitor in National Geographic’s reality show Ultimate Survival Alaska Season 2. Here is the premise of the show:

“Ultimate Survival Alaska focuses on survivalist men and women who are dropped off in the Alaskan wilderness where they compete with each other in various wilderness races. The survivalists are dropped off by aircraft in the Alaskan wilderness where they compete in races through Alaska’s unpredictable weather, barren landscapes, and hostile predators.”

Gojdics, who had worked as a fisherman, horse wrangler, blacksmith, forest service firefighter, joined the Woodsmen Team along with Yote Robertson and Tina “Timber Tina” Scheer. The Woodsmen Team was eliminated after four episodes because of Jimmy Gojdics’ injury.

National Geographic Channel spokesman Chad Sandhas said:

“Jimmy Gojdics appeared last year on the second season of the reality show, but sustained an injury that made it impossible for his team to continue in the competition. We were saddened to learn of Mr. Gaydos’s untimely passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time.”

Gojdics’ friend, Janine Carlson, told the Daily News-Miner:

“Everyone was his friend and he met someone everywhere.”

Carlson also revealed that Gojdics, who was from New York, moved to Alaska over 12 years ago, where he became a local celebrity due to his numerous passions from canoeing, riding his motorcycle with a sidecar to carriage drawn by horses.

  1. Really? No guns in Alaska? When a grizzly or wolf drags your kid off, are you going to save him by hugging the bear or wolf to death?

  2. well there was a mass murder of more than 80 kids at a camp in Norway a few years ago, similar country and politics, remember??

  3. Actually, I do hear of people shooting other people in Sweden. Less than two months ago, a gunman with an automatic weapon walked into a pub in Gothenburg and killed several people. Reportedly, there have been dozens of shootings in that vicinity in recent years. Not to mention the attacks in neighboring Norway back in 2011, which took 77 lives. Most of these deaths resulted from gunshots.

  4. Well, of course that makes Alaska perfectly safe…unless you’re one of those that was killed.

  5. Just yesterday there was a multiple homicide shooting spree in Sweden. I love it when morons like Ed show off their stupidity for all to see…

STOCKHOLM – Several people were killed in a restaurant shooting in the Swedish city of Gothenburg on Wednesday in what police say was likely to be a gang-related shooting.

Police said there was no indication that the shooting in Sweden’s second biggest city was terror-related.

“There’s absolutely nothing suggesting this would have anything to do with terrorism,” police spokeswoman Ulla Brehm said.

Police said there were multiple deaths in the shooting in which automatic weapons were used, but would not say how many, adding the death toll was likely to rise.

    1. I used to own a bar and liquor store. Three times I saved my life because I had a gun. Guns don’t kill people – people kill people in many different ways. Recently in the news:

mother throws 10 month old baby off bridge into river.
      college girl poisons roommates food.
muslim terrorists tried to shoot Americans at conference in
      Texas.
Rookie cop executed while sitting in patrol car in NYC.
      muslims throw homosexuals off rooftops.
muslim father runs daughter down and kills her in honor
killing because she wanted to date American boys.
boko harem hangs Christian boys and men.
isis decapitates Christian boys and men.

and it goes on, and on, and on.

99.9% of gun owners in America are responsible, law-abiding citizens who never commit crimes with their firearms. We only hear about the ones who do because those incidents make the news. So know the facts before you spout your talking points.

I’ve been shooting since I was 7 years old (nearly 60 years now) and have only used my gun in self-defense. By the way, I’m a mother and grandmother and encourage teaching children about the proper use and respect of firearms at as early an age as is appropriate for them.

Just like I taught my daughter how to drive at the age of 10 – she wanted to learn and so I taught her. She is one of the best drivers I know, is the designated driver for her friends, and I still made her drive for an entire year with a learner’s permit before I would let her take her road test – which she passed the first time!

She’s ready to own a gun now and I know she’ll be as law-abiding and responsible about that too.

So the problem to me seems to be the breakdown of the family, not how many guns are in the U.S. But that’s just my opinion based on actual experience…….

      1. A.Cole : Good for you we fought wars w/firearms not words or Marshal Arts. The new motto in America seems to be turn the other cheek, that only works in Church. People will kill you for your stuff or just for nothing and lately because your doing your job. The law Enforcement won’t bother you unless your doing something wrong or being a jerk. Alaska is a different story everybody ,who is responsible carries up there . Remember when guns are outlawed only the outlaws will have guns. I’m not big on reality shows so I didn’t know too much about Jimmy G. but may he Rest in Peace. Wonder if he was packing?

  6. You are such a dumbass….if the cops knew who the killer was they would not tell the media for fear of spooking the guy.

    1. Wow Forbin you are one angry person. Why be so rude? People are just commenting. Get some anger management therapy or you’ll be the next shooter.

    2. Hey Forbin, get a grip. No reason to be nasty. Anthony G made a nice comment – you might learn from his example. Meanwhile, if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. Thank you.

  7. MOVE TO SWEDEN!! Are the people in ALaska supposed to get there meat using a knife??? Its people like you who are the real danger to this country!!!

    1. For Balance go to CDC.gov Fastfacts,
In 2013 there were 16,121 total homicides in the US
11,208 were due to firearms (~70%), any homicide is unacceptable; however (30%) were with weapons other than guns.

Now lets get to the real point, during this same period there were 33,804 deaths involving vehicles. Do we ban automobiles, buses, trucks, etc.

At least be intellectually honest, bad people will find a way to be bad, accidents will happen, if someone truly wishes to commit suicide, they will find a way. Don’t blame the gun, blame the individual who is set on doing harm or the person who is careless.

Anyone who thinks gun control will end death by guns need only look at the two cities in the US with the most stringent gun control laws (Chicago and Washington DC) to realize this is a fallacy.

  8. The news here in the US doesn’t spend too much time covering shootings in other countries. Unless, of course, they can tie them to ISIS in some way.
There are plenty of shootings here in America that you never hear about also. The only ones that make the national news are the mass shootings or the ones with heroic acts or spectacular circumstances.

  9. Way to troll someones death into a debate about guns ownership. Maybe you are one of those so called crazies, drunks, or mental. You will now be banned from the internet for 30 days.

  10. She meant safer, why jump down her throat? This poor man is dead.
R.I.P. Jimmy…….you lived your life the way you wanted, so sorry it was shortened.

  11. Ed,
Move to Sweden. before some crazies drunken mental person shoots you. dumb ass.

  12. I never watched this particular show, but do watch others about Alaska and have great admiration for the men and women who live off the land. If I was 40 years younger I would attempt it myself. I was saddened to learn of Jimmy’s death as it seemed to be a wonderful person from what I’ve read about him. God speed and condolences to your family.

  13. Private gun ownership in Sweden is legal. There are 31.6 guns for every 100 people. So why do YOU think the murder rate is so much lower in Sweden?

  14. Who are you people that get huffy over someone you don’t even know. If seeing them on a reality show make you sorrowful toward a T.V. personality, then get out and meet some Bears for god sakes

  15. Ed, this shooting and apparent murder, actually occurred very close to my home just outside of Fairbanks. As someone that was born and raised in Alaska, I take offence to your comment. I hate to break it to you but… If you lived here as well; you too would own a gun, if not many. Owning a gun does not make you a murderer. Living in Alaska does not make you “mental” as you imply. If you were to kill someone with a hammer, the tool is not to blame, that’s all you Buddy.

  16. I can only trust that the Palin camp sees fit to see justice prevails

  17. Sandy Hook is just another place where another insane person murdered others. He was Bullied as a student there for years before committing this crime. Bullying in schools lead to people fighting back, now. I was bullied for years, but I made it through without this happening. Jesus Christ saved me, and I was able to make it through school without actually killing anyone. I did beat some of the bullies to a pulp, and some left in an ambulance!!! One jock got me by the neck, and slung me aganist some lockers, and threatened to break my neck, I grabbed a football helmet from the top of the lockers, and beat the LIVING SHIT out of him!!! Pretty much after that, the rest of the bullies, kept a WIDE BEARTH around me, as they knew I meant business!!!

  18. This has occurred since Sandy Hook – and the politicians in DC do nothing.
In the two years since the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, there have been at least 94 school shootings
including fatal and nonfatal assaults, suicides, and unintentional shootings — an average of nearly one a week.
During the last three months alone, there were 16 school shootings including a single week in which there were five incidents
in five separate states. These school shootings resulted in 45 deaths and 78 non-fatal gunshot injuries. In 32 percent of these
incidents at least one person died

  19. On my end I can look on the net for a whole lot of stats on how many grannies, single moms who saved their lives and family members when an intruder got in their homes and they pulled a gun.
Clercs, store owners have beed saved thanks to a gun.
If the other German pilot had a gun that plane would not have crashed in France.Just saying.

  20. Guns save more lives than they take; prevent more injuries than they inflict, here are the facts, they are clear as can be.

    * Guns used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year — or about 6,850 times a day. [1] This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives. [2]

    * Of the 2.5 million times citizens use their guns to defend themselves every year, the overwhelming majority merely brandish their gun or fire a warning shot to scare off their attackers. Less than 8% of the time, a citizen will kill or wound his/her attacker.[3]

    * As many as 200,000 women use a gun every year to defend themselves against sexual abuse.[4]

    * Even anti-gun Clinton researchers concede that guns are used 1.5 million times annually for self-defense. According to the Clinton Justice Department, there are as many as 1.5 million cases of self-defense every year. The National Institute of Justice published this figure in 1997 as part of “Guns in America” — a study which was authored by noted anti-gun criminologists Philip Cook and Jens Ludwig.[5]

    * Armed citizens kill more crooks than do the police. Citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as police do every year (1,527 to 606).[6] And readers of Newsweek learned that “only 2 percent of civilian shootings involved an innocent person mistakenly identified as a criminal. The ‘error rate’ for the police, however, was 11 percent, more than five times as high.”[7]

    * Handguns are the weapon of choice for self-defense. Citizens use handguns to protect themselves over 1.9 million times a year. [8] Many of these self-defense handguns could be labeled as “Saturday Night Specials.”

  21. Rest in peace Jimmy, hope you make new friends in heaven.
You were very funny on the show, too bad the injury made you leave.
My heart goes to your love ones.

    PS:
that whole gun bad good talk is insane here.

  22. Nashville has become a hotbed for foreign financial investment in manufacturing, with the growth of the Nissan centers in nearby Smyrna, and also a host of suppliers.
Financial investment inflows, both from abroad and also residential companies, have
actually improved other standout southern industrial hubs, in addition to
the smaller city areas on our mid-sized city listing, significantly Mobile, Ala.

  23. When haven’t they captured the SOB who did that? Are the cops busy watching the duggars on TV?

  24. Some people are dissing the show for being fake, who cares?

    Reality TV is just entertaining.
