Two Planes Near Miss In Houston Leads To FAA Investigation

Two Planes In Near Miss In Houston

Two planes near miss in Houston has travelers wondering how can these incidents still occur. On Thursday night Singapore Airlines had a near-miss with Delta Air Lines while flying above George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas. The commercial jetliners were less than 61m apart vertically according to experts.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating the matter. There has been at least 3 near misses over the skies of George Bush Intercontinental Airport since the month of May due inattentive controllers and distracted pilots.

Two planes in near-miss incident in Houston, Texas is being investigated by the FAA.

In a statement issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, it was revealed that they are currently looking in to what lead to two planes near-miss over the skies of George Bush International Airport in Houston, Texas on Thursday night.

The incident which involved Delta Air Lines Flight 2443 and Singapore Airlines (SIA) Flight 61 occurred at 6.51pm.

The jetliners were flying 16km north-east of the very busy George Bush International Airport when the too close call took place.

A primary investigation revealed that the pilot of a plane leaving Texas for Singapore for a yet undetermined reason was not able to level off at an altitude of 4,000 feet when he took off which lead to being very close to the Delta Air Lines which was arriving to Houston and was at an altitude of 6,000 feet.

Authorities are not certain of how close the planes were to each other, but some experts believe that they might have been 61m apart vertically, and over 800m apart horizontally.

The Federal Aviation Administration stated:

“The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a loss of required separation that occurred Thursday evening between two jetliners while in airspace controlled by the Houston Terminal Radar Approach Control. An air traffic controller noticed the deviation and issued traffic alerts and instructions to the pilots of both aircraft.”

Back in May an air traffic controller in training at George Bush International Airport mistakenly told a jet to turn left which lead to a near collision with an Airbus.
