Tiny Cottle eye implants are being debated left and right. A rapper’s wife’s surgical eye color change has set the internet on fire, sparking an intense debate on how far people will go to reach some canon of beauty.

Tameka “Tiny” Harris, a singer-songwriter and reality TV star, has decided to permanently change the color of her eyes, from brown to light gray. This new procedure, which is illegal in America, uses medical-grade silicone. Since she could not get the surgery done in the US, the wife of rapper Clifford “T.I.” Harris traveled to Africa to make her dream a reality.

Cosmetic iris implants are a new thing for people who are looking for a major change, or are tired of wearing contact lenses. It seems that Tiny Harris falls in one of these categories. The mother of 6 spoke to ABC News’ Deborah Roberts about what pushed her to make such a drastic move. She said:

“I just wanted to do something different. And I have the right to do that. It’s my body.”

Few weeks ago, urban blogs started a rumor about Tiny going to Africa for the surgery, but many did not take it seriously. While promoting her various business ventures, some even thought that the 39-year-old was sporting new contact lenses. Her husband was asked about the matter, but he dodged the question.

Tired of all the speculation, Tiny took to Instagram on Friday to confirm the reports. The post that looked like a strong endorsement for the controversial procedure called BrightOcular was blasted by her followers and she quickly deleted it. It was reposted three days ago.

Tiny is not hiding anymore and has decided to launch a media tour to defend her choice. So, how did she do it? The former member of R&B group, Xscape, explained:

“They go into the eye and they make a little slit. They take an implant and it’s folded up. They open it [and] spread it over your eye. They told me that the procedure was going to be quick, five to 10 minutes an eye. They woke me up. It was very blurry, then it kind of fades in.”

T.I. did not think it was a good idea when he first heard about the surgery, his wife says, he is now OK with the whole thing. Some beauty experts predict that iris implants will soon be a big trend like butt implants few years ago.

Tiny is often at the receiving end of mean comments about her appearance, earlier this year, female rapper, Azealia Banks launched a vicious attack on her “mediocre” look. Banks was not the first one nor the last to say something negative about Tiny’s appearance.

  1. How stupid and vain to Fly to Africa to ‘do something different’ like jeopardizing your sight with this procedure? tsk, tsk.

    1. If the surgery was clean there won’t be a problem. This is the exact same procedure that corrects the vision of thousands of cataract patients. Here in Florida, the retirement capital of the world, they have whole out-patient surgical clinics where the each doctor preforms an average of 25-35 procedures a day.

      1. You’re thinking of cataract surgery. This is not cataract surgery — which is a safe, effective procedure. TC underwent implantation of a cosmetic iris. This procedure is not approved in the U.S. because many of them lead to uncontrollable glaucoma, pain, inflammation, and blindness. Removal of the implant is the only treatment. The vast majority of eye surgeons WORLDWIDE know that this is a dangerous procedure and should not be done. There’s a SMALL chance TC will be okay. But if I were a betting man, I’d bet that she’ll end up having more surgery to save her eyes in a few years.

  2. Her eyes…her choice…just like other implants/surgeries…tattoos…permanent makeup.
Think I would stick with contacts…but her money…her choice.

  3. I think she looks very good with her new color eyes; I wouldn’t mine some for me.People are such haters,it her eyes ,money and business . Instead of hating her write to congress about wasting BILLIONS on space ships and sending years of food supply to space. Those BILLIONS should have been used on the people thats very poor on earth.
