Tinder users tricked into believing a movie character is real and the internet goes wild. On Sunday, the producers of Ex Machina blew the lid off one of their best kept secrets – they have been using a fake profile on Tinder to promote the film.

At the Austin’s South by Southwest Festival, many Tinder users learned that the 25-year-old stunner named Ava they have fallen in love with, is not real.

In order to create buzz around Ex Machina, an elaborate marketing scheme was put in place, a profile using a picture of Alicia Vikander, who plays the seductive robot in the movie was created.

To play fair, Ava did try to give those who contacted her few clues that she might be a robot. For example, she had no bio, just a link to the official website of the movie.

The female A.I. also asked weird questions to the men who reached out to her like, “What makes you human?” and “Have you ever been in love?.”

Despite the hints, few fell for Ava and now they are heartbroken. In one exchange a man named Brock told Ava:

“I just thought you were absolutely gorgeous. And you have innocence. But we all know I can be totally wrong.”

When he learned the truth, he told ADWEEK:

“It toyed with my emotions so hard.”

The site, which broke the news added:

“But when he opened up Ava’s Instagram, it became clear something was amiss. There was one photo and one video, both promoting Ex Machina, a sci-fi film that just happened to be premiering Saturday night here in Austin. The link in her bio went to the film’s website. And it turns out the woman in the photos is Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, who plays an artificial intelligence in the movie.”

The film, which stars Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac, follows a young programmer (Gleeson), who is selected to partake in a breakthrough experiment interviewing a stunning robot to evaluate if she really can possess the qualities of a human.

The flick did fairly well in England and will arrive in America on April 10th. What are your thoughts on Ava?
