Simon Cowell feared for his son after a burglary took place in his home while he slept. No matter how tough talking he might be, Cowell is like any head of household – he is determined to keep his family safe from harm.
On Friday, as Lauren Silverman and her boyfriend, Simon Cowell, slept in their mansion in West London, a man broke in and stole over half of million dollars worth of jewelry, thousands of dollars and the mogul’s passport.
The thief almost got away. There were several break-ins in the past weeks in the area, and Mr. Cowell spent a small fortune to hire extra bodyguards to watch over the safety of his 21-month-old son, Eric Cowell, and his $35 million-dollar mansion.
So, where was the guard the night of the burglary? He was stuck in the bathroom. In an interview after the shocking events, Cowell revealed that the individual ran out of the home with many rings, watches, and earrings, but was stopped by another guard outside of the home.
According to the TV personality, a second guard named M’Bathonha Mendes, who was outside of the home and spotted the man with a large bag ran after him until he dropped it and fled on feet. Cowell called Mendes a hero for retrieving his passport and more than half a million dollars of bling. In an interview, the 56-year-old music mogul said he was awoken by Mendes, who explained there had a been a break-in. Simon said his first thought was to check on the safety of his young son. Cowell shared:
“It was nerve-racking. Lauren was woken up with me and we checked on Eric. That was the first thing we did, to make sure he was OK. Apart from the fact someone broke into my house and stole my stuff, which is scary, it could have been worse. Thankfully no one was hurt. But we have the worst guard dogs in the world.”
Simon insisted that his priority was the safety of his family, and he did not care about the material things that were taken. He told the newspaper:
“It’s not what they stole, it’s the fact they got into the house. That was the frightening thing, the idea someone was in my house.”
Simon also revealed that he plans to boost his security in light of the incident and declined to share how much money he lost. He claimed:
“I don’t want to talk about that. The insurance company will cover that. It was some jewelry. That’s a pain in the ass, but the most important thing is to make sure everyone is OK. What’s more concerning is how we stop people getting into this house. Wherever you live someone can get in.
Maybe I have to get bigger guard dogs.”
Cowell said that the security guard, who was busy in the bathroom as his home was being robbed, has been fired, while Mendes will be getting a Christmas bonus for his amazing work.
