Shaquille O’Neal‘s name is now associated with sweet and delicious doughnuts; he has announced that he has gone into business with Krispy Kreme. The giant and sometimes controversial basketball legend is the proud owner of a Krispy Kreme franchise in Atlanta, Georgia.

He has worn many caps over the years – he is an analyst on the television program, Inside the NBA, an actor, a former rapper, a reserve officer with the Los Angeles Port Police and an amateur wrestler, so no one is surprised that he is selling doughnuts too.

In a statement, the former athlete revealed that his store will be located at Ponce de Leon Avenue. The company also announced that O’Neal has been named Krispy Kreme’s new global spokesman. Krispy Kreme CEO Tony Thompson said in a statement:

“In addition to Shaquille’s status as a sports and entertainment icon and businessman, he is known for spreading joy, which aligns with our positioning and mission. We are confident this partnership will have a big impact for us in Atlanta and around the world.”

Krispy Kreme’s statement goes on to explain that it will hold the very first “Shaq-or-Treat” promotion for Halloween where people can win prizes with “O’Neal’s signature and/or “surprises” from the doughnut chain.”

Via social media, O’Neal said:

In a past interview, O’Neal said he declined to work with Howard Schultz’s Starbucks because African-Americans are not coffee drinkers. He said:

“I looked at the great Howard Schultz’s face and said, ‘Black people don’t drink coffee, sir. I don’t think it’s gonna work.’ And you should have seen the look on his face.”

O’Neal’s new venture has many people smiling.
