Seattle Cop Beats Girl – A Seattle cop was caught on tape punching a young woman in the face after 19-year-old Marilyn Levias and a friend were stopped during a jaywalking incident. While it may sound like the cop was completely out of hand , the Seattle Police Guild have said that the officers reacted accordingly to the situation, although the incident is still under review.
Prior to the punch, you can see that Officer Ian P. Walsh is being wrestled with by two women who had been illegally crossing the street. While jaywalking may seem like a small deal, the officer was only stopping them to let them know to use the crosswalk because there had been problems in the area with pedestrians cutting in front of traffic. During his discussion, the woman became “antagonistic,” according to the police report, and eventually began wrestling with the police officer. It was obvious that he had lost control of the situation, and waited until the last moment to use necessary force.

At one point in the video, a second woman steps in and begins to physically assault the officer, prompting him to throw a punch and regain control of the situation. He then detains Marilyn Levias and throws her into the back of a cop car as onlookers stand and watch the mayhem unfold. One man, taping the incident with his cell phone, is heard antagonizing the police officer as he attempts to make the arrest. He is then asked to back up.

While the matter is still under investigation, it appears that the officer may have followed protocol, using his punch to regain control of the situation. At no point in the video does he appear to be acting out of anger, and even when he is having cameras shoved in his face, he simply asked the bystanders to step back and stay out of his way.
