Salma Hayek To Be Knighted In France – French people are torn by President Nicolas Sarkozy’s decision to award Salma Hayek the Legion of Honor.

The Mexican star who is currently in the country to promote her latest animated film ‘Puss in Boots’ is set to be knighted by the leader in few weeks – but the news is not welcomed by everyone.

The media and average citizens are claiming that Sarkozy who is up for reelection is making a mockery of the Legion d’Honneur which was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 and was given to men and women who were willing to die for the land.

Many claims that the politician is giving away the prestigious medal like free candies in order to have an excuse to have a party at the Elysee Palace.

Sarkozy’s announcement is further raising eyebrows because oddly enough he is very close to Francois-Henri Pinault who happens to be Hayek’s billionaire businessman of a husband.

As if that was not controversial Salma Hayek’s father-in-law, wealthy entrepreneur Francois Pinault is among the 800 people set to honor.

The Elysee Palace is defending its decision stating on its official website that the Mexican beauty has been an “active member of charitable foundations for 23 years.”
