Robin Thicke and April Geary are officially a couple. The R&B crooner and his model girlfriend started dating in 2014, but they were never photographed together on a red carpet until this week.
Robin Thicke and April Love Geary are dating and picked the Cannes Film Festival to make the relationship public. Thicke finalized his divorce from ex-wife Paula Patton on March 17.
The “Magic” singer and the Jumping the Broom actress were married for close to 10 years. However, they met as teenagers and started dating in 1993. Thicke and Patton are parents to a five-year-old son named Julian Fuego. After releasing the biggest hit of his career “Blurred Lines” in 2013, Thicke entered a very dark phase.
The crooner performed with Miley Cyrus at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, the raunchiness of the collaboration led to a massive backlash in the media. The public debacle was followed by cheating allegations after some photos surfaced. They allegedly showed the singer flirting in clubs with younger women. A separation from Patton ensued in February 2014.
In the meantime, Thicke also had to face intense scrutiny over the perceived sexism in lyrics from “Blurred Lines.” The R&B crooner was also sued for copyright infringement by Marvin Gaye‘s family. Thicke claimed that Pharrell Williams, the producer of the track, was the real creative force behind the hit song, although he was also listed as a writer. Williams and Thicke lost in court in March 2015.
After losing Patton, Thicke vowed to win back her love through the power of his music, he released an album titled Paula in June 2014. The project that focused entirely on their relationship failed to impress critics. Paula Patton was not impressed either and decided to move on with her life.
After this downward spiral, April Love Geary came into Thicke’s life in late 2014, and she has never left. The couple’s public outing at Cannes on Wednesday signaled the beginning of something new for a father and artist that is in search of redemption. According to The Inquisitr, they were spotted at different parties in the French city, the couple even mingled with famous faces like Michelle Rodriguez and Kendall Jenner.
Some commentators have pointed to the couple’s age gap as a big red flag. Robin Thicke is 38, and his new girlfriend is just 20.
