Robert Hansen dies and Glenn Flothe declares that the world is a better place without him. Alaska’s most infamous serial killer who was known as the “Butcher Baker,” died on August 21st.

Hansen who was serving several life sentences at the Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward, was moved to the Anchorage Correctional Complex due to undisclosed illnesses.

The murderer’s life was the focus of two movies Naked Fear and The Frozen Ground.

Robert Christian Hansen was born in Iowa and according to various reports, he was bullied during his teen years for having speech difficulties and facial acne.

In 1957, he joined the United States Army Reserve for one year. During the 1960s, he was arrested several times for petty theft.

In 1967, he moved to Alaska with his second wife, had two kids and became a great hunter. The man was well liked by his neighbors who described him as calm and well mannered.

For many years, Hansen was simply known as the owner of the local bakery in Anchorage. In 1983, Cindy Paulson, a 17-year-old prostitute who was tortured, raped and imprisoned by Hansen managed to escape and was interrogated by Detective Glenn Flothe who was already working on a sordid case.

The member of the Alaska State Troopers had discovered several bodies of young women (a Jane Doe dubbed Eklutna Annie, Joanna Messina and Sherry Morrow) near lakes and rivers.

Flothe was certain that all three women were killed by the same person and after interrogating Hansen, he knew he had a suspect.

A search into the baker’s home lead to jewelries and other items that belonged to the victims.

In a very short time, the pilot confessed to murdering 14 women (a total of 17 bodies were found) between 1971 and 1983 who were young and were mainly prostitutes.

He also admitted to raping and torturing at least 30 more. The evil doer told authorities that he liked to fly the women on his private plane in the deep woods and sexually assaulted them.

Sometimes, he would let them go and other times he would hunt them like wild animals.

After reading the breaking news “Robert Hansen Dies,” Frank Rothschild who tried him said, he will not be missed by anyone and offered his sympathy to the families of the victims.
