The Minneapolis home dubbed the Purple Rain house is up for sale and can be yours for the reasonable amount of $110,000. In 1984, the iconic singer and musician known as Prince made his acting debut in Purple Rain, a “rock musical drama film” loosely based on his life directed by Albert Magnoli.

Shot in his hometown of Minneapolis, Purple Rain followed a character named “The Kid” played by Prince, who sinks into music to escape his abusive parents. Here is a brief synopsis of Purple Rain:

“The Kid” is the talented but troubled frontman of his Minneapolis-based band, The Revolution. To escape his difficult home life – his father is verbally and physically abusive, and his mother is emotionally abusive – he spends his days rehearsing and his nights performing at the First Avenue nightclub. Competing with the Revolution for First Avenue’s three house band slots is the flashy Morris Day and his group The Time.

The movie, which starred Apollonia Kotero, Morris Day and Olga Karlatos barely cost $7 million to make, had a great success and earned $68.4 million worldwide.

On Friday, the 3-bed, 2-bath home located at 3420 Snelling Avenue in south Minneapolis where Prince aka The Kid lived with his family was put on the market. According to the real estate company, the home was built in 1913 and needs major renovation. The listing reads:

Revitalize this historic home which Prince featured in his Purple Rain Movie. This home needs to be rehabbed. Newer boiler in 2010. Close to Light Rail on a quiet street in the Longfellow neighborhood. Buyer to assume any R & R’s on the TISH

The success of Prince’s Purple Rain album released in 1984, which sold over 22 million copies worldwide, had inspired the star to build the Purple House on Lake Riley in Chanhassen, Minnesota. After the passing of his father in 2003, Prince had the home demolished.
