The Olsen twins say no to Fuller House, and John Stamos is “heartbroken” over the decision. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen prefer to focus on their fashion endeavors and wish their TV “family” all the best with the spin-off series.

The wait is over, but fans of Full House did not get the answer they were hoping. After weeks of public maneuvering and rumors, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have finally spoken. The Olsen twins said no to Fuller House, a spin-off series of Full House that is set to debut on Netflix in 2016.

Robert L. Boyett, executive producer of the reboot, sent a statement to Hollywood Reporter. It read:

“Although Ashley and Mary-Kate will not be a part of Fuller House, I know how much Full House has meant to them and they are still very much considered family. It has been exciting to see how they have built their professional careers, and I support their choice to focus on their fashion brands and various business endeavors. I appreciate their support and good wishes towards Fuller House.”

Full House ran on ABC from 1987 to 1995; the popular sitcom turned the Olsen twins into a household name. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen portrayed Michelle Tanner on the TV show. The fraternal twins were cast for the part at six months old. Full House focused on a single dad (Bob Saget) raising his three daughters with the help of his brother-in-law (John Stamos) and goofy friend (Dave Coulier).

Fuller House is supposed to center on the oldest Tanner sister (Candace Cameron), now a pregnant mother of two, who just lost her husband. D.J. Tanner enlists her family to help with the children. Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie Tanner), Andrea Barber (Kimmy Gibbler), John Stamos (Jesse Katsopolis), Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone) and Candace Cameron Bure have all agreed to reprise their roles. Negotiations are said to be underway for Bob Saget and Lori Loughlin (Rebecca Donaldson Katsopolis) to also return.

It is safe to say that the Olsen twins’ refusal is a bit of a blow to Fuller House. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were practically the faces of Full House. Stamos, who will serve as producer on Fuller House, said on Twitter that he was “heartbroken” over the decision, but promised to deliver for the fans of the original sitcom. He shared:

“I understand they’re in a different place and I wish them the best. I promise you will not be dissapointed with our reunion and spin off!!”

One hour later, Stamos did say more in a Facebook post, and he appeared to express some frustration with the current situation. It seems that he threw shade at the Olsen twins and the other actors, who do not want to return for “free.” Let’s not forget that Stamos was named producer on the new revival, a privilege that was not extended to the other stars.

Just so you reporters know – this is not a money gig for any of us- quite the opposite – we want to give the fans what…
