A Neil deGrasse Tyson talk show was announced for April. In a lengthy press release, National Geographic Channel has announced that Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson will be getting his own talk show.

The show is called Star Talk and is an expansion of Tyson’s immensely popular podcast by the same name. Not changing a formula that works, the weekly talk show will be a mixture of science and popular culture.

The show will have comedians and celebrities who will discuss a wide range of topics. In a statement, the network revealed that the famous astrophysicist and lecturer will have a one-on-one interview with a public figure during which:

“Dr. Tyson will explore all the ways that science and technology have influenced the life and livelihood of his guests, whatever their background.”

The first guests include George Takei, Christopher Nolan, Jimmy Carter, Charles Bolden and Arianna Huffington.

As he does on his podcast, on each episode, Bill Nye, the Science Guy, will give his two sense on the week’s theme via a pre-taped segment.

The network had the following to say on Neil deGrasse Tyson’s talk show :

“StarTalk Radio, hosted by Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, is a ground-breaking, weekly, one-hour radio talk show and podcast, bridging the gap between pop culture and pop science. With a unique combination of comedy and celebrity star power, including frequent guest host Bill Nye, the show aims to bring the universe down to Earth.”

The director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History also a issued a statement that read:

“Expanding the StarTalk radio show and podcast into a television show on National Geographic Channel offers a unique opportunity to show viewers how pervasive science is in our culture and how entertaining science can be,” said Dr. Tyson. “Throughout the show we explore current issues with top industry leaders and pair that with comical, but informed, commentary. From politicians and actors to scientists, social activists and more, the impact of science knows no bounds.”

Neil deGrasse Tyson’s talk show will premiere on April 20 at 11 PM ET/PT with George Takei as his first guest. Here is what the episode will look like:

“This week’s theme is “Star Trek” as Inspiration for the Future. Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson sits down with actor, author and activist George Takei to discuss how the once-futuristic scenarios in “Star Trek” relate to many of today’s current moral and social issues. Weighing in on this interview are Charles Liu, astrophysicist at the American Museum of Natural History and the College of Staten Island, and comedian Leighann Lord. Science educator and frequent guest host of StarTalk Bill Nye delves specifically into scenarios pertaining to technology and civil rights.”
