NBC Cancels ‘A.D.,’ ‘Hannibal’: Amazon And Netflix Say No To ‘Hannibal,’ The 2 Series Are Looking For New Homes

NBC canceled A.D. and Hannibal, and the news has angered a legion of fans. The peacock network announced the end of Hannibal barely three episodes into the third season and as for A.D. The Bible Continues, it was axed after just one season due to dwindling ratings.

NBC cancels A.D. and Hannibal, but it is not completely over yet for our favorite, stylish and well-spoken cannibalistic serial killer, and apparently the same can be said for The Bible sequel.

After three episodes of Hannibal Season 3 had aired, NBC was quick to announce that it was over.

During the three seasons, Hannibal was critically praised, but NBC decided to ax the series because of low ratings. However, many questions remain to be answered.

How long will it take for Mason Verger, Margot’s sadistic twin brother to find Dr. Hannibal Lecter? How many intellectuals will Hannibal kill in Italy before he is caught? Can Will Graham make up his mind? Is he planning to kill Hannibal or not? Will Hannibal eat Will and Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier before the season is over? Can somebody ask Rihanna to make a cameo in Hannibal Season 4? And, why in the world did Jack Crawford let Hannibal slip out a window when he could have killed him?

The good news is that there is a big possibility that Hannibal will be saved by another company like Amazon and therefore all of the questions above will be answered. Executive producer Bryan Fuller said in a statement:

“‘Hannibal’ is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer..but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC.”

Rumors claim that Hannibal might be picked up by Amazon. There is also a glimmer of hope for A.D. The Bible Continues produced by Roma Downey, Mark Burnett, and Richard Bedser, which was also canceled by NBC.

The series, which starred Juan Pablo Di Pace as Jesus, Adam Levy as Peter and Greta Scacchi as Mother Mary, started airing during Easter, right after the Emmy-nominated The Bible miniseries.

The first episodes broke records, but the numbers rapidly plummeted, prompting NBC to crucify the show after one season. However, producers Burnett and Downey plan to resurrect the series via their OTT digital channel. Downey recently explained the concept of the series:

“With The Bible, we’re madly ambitious in having only 10 hours to try to bring to the screen the stories from Genesis right through to Revelation. A.D. has allowed us the chance to take a deeper dive into the Book of Acts. And this first 12 episodes, of which we hope it’s the first of many, takes us on a linear narrative on the first 10 chapters on the Book of Acts. We wanted to re-set emotionally the crucifixion of Jesus and bring us right through the resurrection, which, of course, occurs on Easter Sunday night, which is the perfect night for this show to premiere.”

The program will probably be coming back in late 2016 or early 2017 via the online religious channel.

What are your thoughts on NBC’s decision to dump the two shows?

According to the latest update, Amazon and Netflix have said no to the fourth season of Hannibal.

  1. I can not see how a show as riviting as Hannibal could be cancelled, it is a huge mistake on NBC’s part, I for one don’t agree with it and look for it to come out on another network.

  2. I like Hannibal, but I understand why NBC cancelled it. With the way it’s jumping around this season, it takes all my concentration to keep up with it. It’s not as straight forward as the previous two seasons. The casual tv viewer may not want to invest that much thinking into it. I do hope a full season was filmed before it was cancelled. I was looking forward to see how they handled the Red Dragon character. Hopefully they will run the full season this summer. Maybe Amazon or Netflix will pick it up.
