Natalie Morales rumors are keeping the Internet busy. According to them, the popular anchor on NBC’s hit morning show Today will be axed soon because of Matt Lauer. It is being reported, that Matt Lauer is not a huge fan of Natalie Morales and is trying to get her booted from the Today Show and replace her with his good friend, Hoda Kotb. However, according to another insider, the rumors are false and Morales is not going anywhere.
Has Natalie Morales been dumped by the Today Show? Some rumors say yes, while others say no. Late last week, Page Six broke the surprising news/rumors that Natalie Morales was about to lose her gig on the daily morning show, and Matt Lauer was the one to be blamed – remember the Ann Curry drama.
An insider spoke to the New York publication and explained that the plan is to make it look like Morales is getting a promotion and move her to Dateline. Matt Lauer is hoping that his close pal, Hoda Kotb, will take over Natalie Morales’ segments. The person shared:
. “They’ll try to position this as a promotion for Natalie — but make no mistake, she’s not happy.”
A senior employee at the Today Show has stepped out to blast the Natalie Morales rumors saying that staff members of ABC’s Good Morning America are probably the ones leaking those fake stories. What’s the reason?
Last week, Today beat Good Morning America in the key adults 25-54 demo, it was the show’s biggest win in the demo since NBC’s Olympic coverage in February of 2014. For the week of April 20, Today averaged 1.793 million viewers in the demo, while GMA recorded an audience of 1.765 million. The individual explained:
“This is all hogwash. Natalie is beloved by the staff and millions of fans.”
The staff member went on to explain how important Morales is to the team:
“It’s pretty obvious this vicious rumor is being spread by a competitor nervous that we have won a week in the demo and are moving toward regaining our place as the number one morning show. We’ve got great momentum, we love our team and Natalie is an important part of it.”
This is not the first time; rumors of Natalie Morales getting axed have surfaced. In the fall of 2014, when Willie Geist was dumped from Today, it was also being claimed that Morales and Savannah Guthrie were heading to the exit door.
However, the crew stepped in and saved the two women. NBC News President Deborah Turness said at the time:
“NBC’s Today has the best anchor team in morning television.The entire Today show anchor team — Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, Natalie Morales, Willie Geist, Carson Daly, Tamron Hall, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb — are incredibly talented, valued and have our support. In response to the false rumors that have been circulated about our anchor team, NBC wants to be absolutely clear: The rumors are wrong — period. This is the team we are committed to. And this is the team that our viewers turn to in the morning.”
In 2013, Lauer was almost given the boot for CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

Love her! Natalie balances the show with her class act. Savannah brings warmth and a positive energy. The two of them make a great contribution to Matt & All. I would however get rid of Tamron.
I totally agree. I get so sick of Tamron and Al’s foolishness and thinking they are so funny. Especially Al. He really irks me interrupting people to say something childish. If Natalie goes, the only positive will be Savannah and she can’t hold it on her own. I might go back to GMA which I left when Natalie and Savannah came alive.

I love Natalie because she is smart, funny, daring and is willing to speak her mind without crossing a line. I also love that she is a mom, works, is a marathon runner and has time for it all. I great role model. However, I agree that Tamron is not a good fit for the group. She is too silly, things go over her head and I don’t like her presenting style. Her “private” jokes with Al that relate to race can go a bit far, too. It also leaves Willie and Natalie sitting there clueless while they are laughing.

I think the Today show has struck a good balance after a pretty tumultuous time. Clearly, this is shown by the up-tick in ratings. I have stayed by Today as a loyal fan, but if this rumor has any truth, this would be a hard pill to swallow. As the old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
I hope NBC does not get rid of Natalie or Tamron. What is wrong with Lauer. Stop getting into other people’s business and try to do your job well. I watch NBC until Lauer comes on and switch to GMA. Can’t take him in the morning.

If this is GMA, then let’s positively identify and squelch them. If it is Matt Lauer, then he needs an attitude adjustment. Natalie Morales is a fine journalist and fits well with the BEST morning crew on television. GMA is talented, but does not have the depth and warmth of the TODAY show crew.

There’s always plotting happening everywhere including NBC, ABS, and CBS show. There is only one reason I watch NBC morning show is the compassionate reporting and humble response from Natalie and Savannah. I usually pass on Matt’s reporting because he seems less caring and sensitive than the ladies. I do however, miss Anne Currey and her reporting. Now she and Natalie are genuine in their reporting.
If they force Natalie to go, then I’m going to be an ABC news girl. I almost left due to the forced departure of the wonderful Ann Curry. This would be the final straw. AND, why is it always the women who lose out at NBC?

Matt is the one that needs to go! He was behind the Ann Currey departure. Natalie and Hoda are the only ones on that show that don’t have a big ego. Amy Rohrbach and Sara Haines fit in very well at GMA.

I’ve said before in other posts of this nature. Matt Lauer is always the problem. Get rid of him and I assure you that viewership will not decrease; In fact it may very well increase. He has been holding that show back for a few years. This network has long been known for its bad decisions, and that keeps it at number three or four. Look at Brian Williams; suspended for stretching the truth. No one in the news business is completly truthful about their experience. If you were to investigate each reporter and news anchor, you would likely find that the last honest person was Walter Cronkite.
They are stupid if they get rid of her. She has more class than the rest of them.

Natalie is way better than Savannah. I wish Savannah would go away. I hoped she wouldn’t return from maternity leave. I like Tamron but she’s always so loud and talking over people and she’s pulled Al into it, they both need to tone it down. I used to love Al but he has gotten very silly lately. Willy and Natalie are the only sane ones in the third hour. While I like some of Kathy Lee’s common sense, she needs to retire, she’s starting to become a caricature. I love Hoda. I have no problem with Matt and I think people have started rumors about him in the past but we’ll see, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

Al and Tamron need to go! Their inane sense of humor is so irritating. It’s like watching two clowns! If Natalie leaves most of the people I know will stop watching! But look at the ripoff Ann got! She should still be on that show. She and Natalie were and are the ones who made the show newsworthy. Now it’s just another Comedy Central without the swearing! Natalie is not an easy television personality to watch. Although she has toned it down a bit; there clearly remains a tendency towards self chattering, and a habit of interrupting others in mid-sentence.
We really enjoy the ‘gift’ of Hoda! (No ego; while consistently appearing genuinely and professionally accommodating and caring towards her peers and others.) Hoda keeps it…real.
These are important attributes for anyone to maintain. These are also some of those key things that will keep television viewers….viewing.

Natalie is a class act. She dresses well, delivers well and makes guests very comfortable. Kathy Lee does the same. I think Kathy Lee acts up sometimes because it’s expected of her – part of the show. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. If Matt is the instigator, fire him and hire another woman. You don’t need a man as an anchor. Let’s see what women can do.

I disagree. I switched over to reruns of the Golden Girls in the morning but when I do hit the news, it’s Charlie Rose and Nora O’Donnell. Small but mighty crowd on that news desk. I tolerate Gayle King but the other two certainly run that show. Crisp, professional, not the coffee clatching air heads as are on Today. After Ann Curry got kicked to the curb by Pope Lauer, I haven’t watched it since.

Natalie is a breath of fresh air and an excellent reporter as well as role model. If you are getting rid of someone, give the hook to Tamron. She always seems to need to be the center of attention and does not add any value to the show.
Savannah is by far my pick of the litter, she and Natalie are the breath of fresh air for me. I also like everyone on the first couple of hours but never watch Kathie Lee. And I really like when Jenna comes on.
I can’t begin to guess if this story is true, but I have been (for a long time) hoping for the day they get rid of Matt Lauer. He’s the reason I switch back and forth from GMA to Today Show. Everyone I know really luvs Natalie and would be very upset to see her leave the today show. If Today would get rid of the two Cocky, NON-Interesting reporters – Matt Lauer and Tamron Hall – and replace them with great folks like Natalie, then you’d have an excellent show.

I,like many have commented to you before! Listen to the people and not the hot-shot executives who scramble with any desperate idea to make themselves look worthy of their over-rated salaries! Matt Lauer used to be AAA rated, but he blew it a long time ago! He still has some decent moments and capabilities; but is still highly over-rated by the media. You have a great team…but if anyone has to go; let Matt put in his papers and move to a different area of NBC. That way he can prove just how good or not-so-good he really is! He certainly can afford to take the challenge! Katie and Ann both still have my highest regard and respect. I even deal well with Tamron…she’s up and coming, and classy in her own way! I really don’t want to leave again, myself!
Natalie Morales is my favorite part of the show! She is better than anyone there and if they lose her, I will stop watching. I find the other women on the show annoying. She is professional, articulate, mature and drop dead gorgeous. Even when they send her to Hawaii and put her on a surf board she carries it off with grace and sophistication. NBC has lost most of its good shows, I hope they don’t lose their minds as well.
Micki, I could not have said it any better. I was disappointed when Savannah became the co-anchor instead of Natalie, although I have learned to like her.
Matt Lauer has too much to say about everything. I do not watch the Today show because of him. They should get rid of him and give him a taste of his own disrespect for people. Natalie gives the show a sense of warmth and professionalism. Many of us won’t watch when Matt Lauer is on. Why do the producers of the show even listen to him.
If you have cable, internet or a smartphone you do realize there are other sources of morning news, right? Personally, I don’t favor one over another anymore (including cable and/or internet). I am slowly beginning to wonder if we, the news viewing public including print, are being fed news in a fashion to inform the public what is being trickled out as seen fit by whomever feeds “a source close to …” (fill in the blank … gov’t?). Huge, headline breaking news that turns out to be not so much true MIGHT get corrected a few days later on page 8 or 11. In the case of television, if it’s mentioned at all, it’s crammed in between or right after a “feel good” story.
As for ABC/CBS/NBC, I really don’t much watch them much anymore. I’ll admit to NBC if I’m trying to catch weather/traffic update. Their “exclusives” drive me crazy. ML’s skinny pants: he’s old and needs a new wardrobe person; whatever he makes it’s way too much. SG seems nice enough & needs to go back to her previous position, something to do with her law degree. As for AR, he really does need to tone it down a notch or five; the blonde (Dillon?) could step in tomorrow the show would not miss a beat. Except for Lester Holt, don’t know much of anything about the weekend Today. But I will say, I have always liked Lester Holt and his delivery. BW? I feel bad for his family & that’s all. He’s been lying all along. Wonder if his family is …. KWIM? I would be.
Natalie. She needs to take it upon herself & not renew her contract. Period. Much like the (only) lady from Fox & Friends (Allison-sp?); haven’t seen her but read a couple of articles & she seemed like a real class act. (Again, see 1st paragraph.) Natalie has done her job on the Today show (used to be a big fan); spent countless weeks away from her family; makes me wonder if she has ever said no to any assignment?
You’re better than the Today show. It’s past time, Natalie. I mean, once NBC decided that a 4th hour of the Today show was just the greatest idea and then pulled in KLG and had the NERVE to give her top billing over HK? I’ve seen this 4th hour twice. I was in the hospital & my mom (in her 80’s) just couldn’t miss it. I was post-surgery so I just pushed the button for the pain medication, every 10 minutes (guess that was my version of KLG’s wine?).
This is way too long but I wanted to make my point about NM. She has been on this show for a very long time and, IMO, deserves respect. Maybe it’s time for her to take a break.
Don’t renew that contract. Maybe free lance and call the shots for yourself = more time with your family. Don’t be afraid, Natalie. The work, if you want it, will come to you. I was born in Mississippi and live in Huntsville, Alabama. I have an IQ of 142, an engineering degree, and work in a highly technical field. If you research Huntsville, you will find that it is the home of the second largest research and development center in the world. The largest is in North Carolina (which is also in the South, BTW). Huntsville also has the highest number of holders of doctorate degrees per capita than any city in the US.

All are likeable except Lauer. He used up his last 5 minutes after back stabbing Ann Curry. Tamron is way too silly and as most have noted, she adds nothing to the team. Jenna Bush Hager is probably the biggest moron NBC has put on the airwaves, she does not come across as the least bit sincere or talented in broadcast journalism. I don’t think Lauer anchors the TODAY show as much as the other team members, and it would be refreshing to secure a solid replacement for him instead of any thoughts of removing Natalie M.

I quit watching Today after the Ann Curry fiasco, which I believe was completely the scum bag Matt Lauer’s fault. Now it is happening again? Maybe Today would be better off getting rid of Moron Lauer.

The today show is fine as it is. Everyone appears to work well together. Leave Tamron alone!!!! The 9 o’clock hour is my favorite with Al, Natalie, Tamron and Willie. They work well together, they are funny and genuinely appear to like each other. Stop stirring up drama. Natalie, Tamron and Willie have limited roles on the earlier hours. Natalie usually does the news, Tamron the social media…or like Willie they fill in when Matt and Savannah are off. Natalie is great and so are her other coworkers…they are all class acts…Al is funny and I love Willie.
Little will change if Natalie gets cut. She doesn’t have anything significant to say and only follows the lead. She laughs when everyone else laughs. She will agree with the majority whatever the issue. She is just scenery in my opinion. I do not find anything special about her. The show has gone downhill. They now focus more on fluff than news content which disappoints me. Savanah is a poor role model for up and coming young professional women. It would have been more tasteful if her pregnancy and wedding were kept private instead of publicizing it. And shame on the crew for glorifying it on air.
Matt needs to go! I feel that he brings nothing to the show. Is ego has always been too big for the show. The Today show will continue to suffer if they don’t retire Matt soon.
Sounds pretty par for Lauer. After the Ann Curry fiasco, you would think he would back off. However…wasn’t he rumored to be messing around with Natalie back in the day? Hmmmm. Anyway, if they were going to get rid of someone, Natalie would be the keeper.
These “personalities” come and go. Maybe they will bring back Dave Garroway, along with Fred Muggs. That is about the last time I connected with the show. I haven’t watched the Today Show in years. I prefer local programming, which is difficult to find any more. Networks dictate too much what to put on.
I forgot to add – I get a lot of my “national” news from Weekend Update on SNL. I feel like they do a better job than the others, especially the commentary.
Personally I don’t care what they do with the show they got rid of all the good people a long time ago. Don’t watch it anymore for that reason. Thumbs down on Matt and Al they both make me want to vomit. if the today show wants to get back on track those two are the ones to get rid of.
Since we are having a bitch fest, I would like to add that I deplore Matt Lauer. The man is substandard at best. He’s a news reader, and I do not consider him to be a “journalist” in the true definition of the word. When Katie was there, he knew his place, and it was after Katie. He got along so well with Meredith because he was never threatened by her. She allowed him the “lead”…But, when he set out after Ann Curry, who is the true definition of a “journalist” he couldn’t stand it. She truly threatened him and his ego is way bigger than who he really is. Matt Lauer is a philander, he has had several affairs according to Page 6 and the Daily News. His wife at one time filed for divorce and then rescinded it. The one thing that NBC does not like is their folks screwing around on their spouses. One of those women that were reported to have had a fling with Matt Lauer was NATALIE Morales. True/Not True, really, why do we care? The one thing I do know is that I have been watching the TODAY show since 1967 and I was in Jr. High School and my mom had it on. The Today show was THE one morning program that you would know that the reporting was timely, you wouldn’t get bored with the “celebrity” crap that they put on now. It was a “morning News Show”…Now, it is far from it. The first 30 min. is news..and everything after that is about Vapid, self important morons that need to hawk something. I was not fond of Savannah until recently, not because she took Ann Curry’s place, but because I didn’t feel she “fit”, I feel differently now because the show has concentrated on “airhead” programming, she now fits. I cannot stand Al Roker, the man has become a smug, arrogant, self important, with an ego that couldn’t fit through the front door. When Al Roker lost his weight due to the surgery and he swore it was a huge secret, BUT, on the way to the hospital cameras were there and everything was filmed for a later segment on TODAY> Yea big secret. LOL…He is a arrogant man. As for Tamron Hall. If she were blond I would think she was the epitome of the “stupid blond” jokes that have run rampant for years. Some of the things that come out of her mouth are ridiculous and she is the only one laughing. Willie Geist, I like him, and I am glad he got away from Morning Joe. He is worth more then sitting across from Joe Scarborough and his sinking fishing boat. That leaves Hoda and Kathie Lee. I love Hoda, she is an excellent journalist, I love watching her reports on Dateline. Kathie Lee on the other hand needs to go. She bored everyone for years with Regis Philbin bragging about her kids and Frank Gifford all the damned time and frankly speaking when Frank Gifford cheated on her, she shut up for a long while and then she left the show. Now she is back on morning TV and she is not relevant. I don’t mind having wine, but she is a lush and Hoda is turning into one sitting next to her. A question….why is this country so fascinated with “celebrities”…really,, why? They are no better then anyone else, they are over paid, spoiled little children that this country treats as “royalty. It is disgusting. I would love to see programming on folks that are not celebrities and yet contribute to their communities …at least one a week. Mother’s day is here, and all week we have had to endure their mommies. What, their mothers are the only mothers worth talking about? And the truth is, how many of us can afford to do the things that the Today Show 8 got to do at the expense of NBC??? If I wanted hokey I would turn to the numerous channels available on Cable TV. The whole show has had such an upheaval to cater to the younger millennials, and they have forgotten about those of us that are retirees and still have years ahead of us. Nothing is ever about Seniors, which are now between 50 – upwards. The show all 3 hours has just become VAPID. And WHY are the women always looking like idiots and the men are so damned intelligent? Seriously, this has been going on there at TODAY since Ann Curry was booted. I would love to know the difference in pay scale of Matt, Al and Willie up against the women of TODAY…now that, would be a story!!!
