Mistresses Season 3 Premieres: Did Alyssa Milano Leave?

Alyssa Milano left Mistresses after two seasons not to join The Astronaut Wives Club like some wild rumors claimed, but because she did not want to uproot her family from California for Canada. Thursday night, Mistresses Season 3 premiered, and the creators of the hit series are spilling the beans on what is coming for Alyssa Milano and Jennifer Esposito’s characters.

Alyssa Milano Mistresses

Alyssa Milano left Mistresses after season 2 and many want to know why and what will happen to her character named Savannah “Savi” Davis and what are the plans for season 3 newcomer, Jennifer Esposito, who took on the role of Calista Raines? We have all the answers.

Via social media, Alyssa Milano surprised fans by announcing that she was leaving Mistresses because the show was moving to Canada to cut production cost.

Unwilling to leave her husband, David Bugliari, and her two children – Milo Thomas Bugliari and Elizabella Dylan Bugliari – she decided to quit. She said that the time:

“After two wonderful seasons in Los Angeles, the studio has decided to shoot Season 3 of Mistresses in Vancouver, Canada for financial reasons. It’s with a heavy heart that I have decided that I can’t relocate.I have two babies under 4. Being a mother and wife comes first, and I just can not uproot my children and separate the family by moving away.
I will miss this job desperately and wish everyone the absolute best.”

In the finale of Season 2 of Mistresses, Alyssa Milano’s character was devastated when she learned that during her sister, Joss (Jes Macallan) and Scott’s (Justin Hartley) surprise wedding, she cheated with her ex-husband, Harry (Brett Tucker).

In the season 3 premiere, poor Savi was nowhere to be seen, that is because she left for Italy – oddly enough the actress is of Italian ancestry. So, will we see Milano in the future? The bosses of MistressesRina Mimoun and KJ Steinberggave vague responses. Mimoun shared:

We like to answer this question somewhat cryptically in that Savi is very much a strong presence, especially in the two-hour premiere. And since she is the sister of one of the main characters, she’ll always be part of the fabric of the show — whether or not Alyssa is part of the fabric of the show.

Steinberg added:

The effect of her being gone is like the loss of any friend in real life: Life continues and goes on, but you feel the loss of that presence really strongly. For some characters, like Joss and Harry, the loss of Savi is especially [hard]. Joss feels a sense of guilt and grief. The loss of Savi plays a large role in how her relationship with Harry plays out.

Milano is more or less being replaced with Jennifer Esposito, who plays Calista Raines, a wine-loving creative director of a luxury fashion brand, who befriends Joss as she was trying to catch her cheating husband. Steinberg claimed Esposito will be bringing the drama and added:

“And the absence of Savi made room in Joss’ life for a strong presence in Jennifer Esposito’s character. We could not be more thrilled with the character and her portrayal of the character, who is eccentric, wild and fun.”

More spoilers of season 3 below:

Karen does not have HIV and could help Alec Adams (Ed Quinn) save his wife. Lucy (Corinne Massiah) hates her mother after discovering that her father is alive. Joss and Harry are not in a relationship despite their passionate kiss at the end of season 2.
