Melissa Bowerman arrested and charged with sex abuse. Melissa Bowerman, 43, who is the daughter-in-law of Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman was arrested this week after authorities in Oregon received a tip that she was having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old boy on the track and field team that she coached at Madras High School. Despite the charges and the arrest Melissa Bowerman’s husband 76-year-old Jon Bowerman is standing by her side.

On Monday Melissa Bowerman was arrested in her Oregon home after police officers received an anonymous message that revealed the 43-year-old married woman was having sex with a teenager she coached.

According to reports, Melissa Bowerman who was the head coach of the track and field team at Madras High School for two years, was sleeping with a 17-year-old athlete since May of 2014.

The daughter-in-law of Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman was charged with sex abuse, luring a minor and online sexual corruption of a child before being taken to Jefferson County Jail in Madras.

Melissa Bowerman’s 76-year-old Jon Bowerman spoke to the media saying that he was baffled when police served him a search warrant and and took his wife of 6 years away in handcuffs.

Jon Bowerman explained that officers left with Melissa Bowerman’s computers, cell phones and cameras.

He went on to add that despite the charges and allegations, he still loves his wife and has plans to support her no matter what when she appears in court on Tuesday.

In 2012, Melissa Bowerman raised eyebrows when she decided to escort a 17-year-old student to prom at the Condon High School in Oregon.

School authorities were not amused by the move and decided to fire Melissa Bowerman and Jon Bowerman who used to coach the Condon/Wheeler track and field team.

At the time, an investigation into the matter revealed that Melissa Bowerman did ask the teen’s father to be his date at the prom.

Melissa Bowerman swore there was nothing sexual about her relationship with the boy.

She stated the student had no date and was having a hard time in school and she wanted to help.

Officials at the Madras High School are now saying that they regret not taking the 2012 incident that occurred at Condon High School into consideration when they hired her.
