Matthew McConaughey Is Bald And Pudgy On Set Of ‘Gold’

It is another transformation for Matthew McConaughey, who is currently filming Gold. Mr. McConaughey, who became skeletal for his Oscar-winning role in Dallas Buyers Club, has packed on the pounds and shaved the front of his head for the new flick.

Matthew McConaughey does not look like himself anymore, gone are the luscious locks and gone are the signature abs that he was known for. On Monday, paparazzi snapped several pictures of Mr. Matthew McConaughey, who was busy running around in New York filming scenes with Bryce Dallas Howard for their new film, Gold.

The talented star was unrecognizable in a dark grey suit, matching trousers, pink shirt and a very tropical tie with parrots and wildflowers. Despite the suit, McConaughey was showing a beer belly and bigger limbs. However, the most shocking part of McConaughey’s transformation – was his hair.

The father of three, who is known for his beautiful beachy curls, was sporting a bald spot and receding hairline, (many are baffled by the star’s decision to shave off his hair knowing that few years ago he had hair transplant). McConaughey was pictured smoking a cigarette, carrying a briefcase and interacting with Howard, who dazzled in a gold dress.

In Gold, McConaughey, who also serves as producer, plays a very unlucky businessman named Kenny Wells who gets in business with a geologist, Michael Acosta, (played by Édgar Ramírez), who has also ran out of luck to find gold deep in the uncharted jungles of Indonesia (Borneo).

The cast and crew have already shot scenes in Thailand and New Mexico and are wrapping up in the Big Apple. Bryce Dallas Howard landed the lead female role of Kay, Wells’ longtime girlfriend, who is reluctant to follow him on his wild adventure.

Howard is replacing Blue Valentine actress Michelle Williams, who exited the project. The film is being directed by Stephen Gaghan, produced by Teddy Schwarzman and will star Corey Stoll, Toby Kebbell, Bruce Greenwood, and Stacy Keach.

As stated above, this is not the first time, McConaughey changed his appearance for a role. In 2013, he shed 40 pounds for the part of Ron Woodroof, an AIDS-stricken man in the movie, Dallas Buyers Club. McConaughey, who won an Oscar for the performance, explained:

“It was big transformation … it was a damn spiritual cleanse, man. You’re reminded how often you think about the next meal through the day. …You don’t go have meetings at your favorite steak house either — you have ’em right at home with your little meal right in front of you.”

Gold will arrive in theaters in 2016.
