Marvin Lewis Stays As Bengals Coach
Marvin Lewis has been the coach of the Cincinnati Bengals since 2003. Lewis himself played quarterback and safety in high school, being named in the All-Big Sky Conference three times.
He began his coaching career at Idaho State, first serving as a graduate assistant and then as linebackers coach from 1981-1984. He went on the coach linebackers at Long Beach State, the University of New Mexico, the University of Pittsburgh, and then the Pittsburgh Steelers.
From 1996-2001, he helped build the Baltimore Ravens program as defensive coordinator, before moving to the Washington Redskins in 2002.
Lewis replaced Dick LeBeau as head coach of the Bengals in 2003. He was critical in building the program in Cincinnati. In 2009, the Bengals went 10-6, leading the AFC North. Yet, 2010 was a bust for the Bengals, who went 4-12.
Lewis has the support of the Bengals players, who believe the team is moving forward. Bengals safety Chris Crocker said that everyone wants him back. The Bengals may be in for change in more than one way next season, as it has been speculated that wide outs Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco have left the team.
This comes after the strong performances from young receivers Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell in the last two games. It has yet to be revealed whether or not Lewis will remain with the team.
Update:
Marvin Lewis will stay as coach of the Bengals.
