Margot Robbie is being linked to a Tonya Harding biopic called I, Tonya, the project has no official release date for now. The controversial former Olympic skater marked the early 1990s through her rivalry with Nancy Kerrigan and the subsequent fall from grace.
Margot Robbie, the actress of The Wolf of Wall Street fame, is getting ready to take on a new challenge in her burgeoning career, portray Tonya Harding in a biopic about her rise and fall in the 1990s. The project will be written by Steven Rogers and developed by Bryan Unkeless through Clubhouse Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Australian actress will also serve as producer via her LuckyChap Entertainment.
Harding and her rival, Nancy Kerrigan, changed figure skating in the 1990s. The two-time Skate America Champion’s fall was the result of a guilty plea in the Kerrigan attack in 1994. Harding was banned for life for playing a role in the incident. Harding’s former husband, Jeff Gillooly, and her bodyguard hired a man to attack her main competitor after a practice session in January 1994. The attacker stuck a knife few inches above Kerrigan’s knee to prevent her from competing at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. Both women still managed to make it to the big competition; Kerrigan finished with a silver medal, and Harding took 8th place. Harding was later linked to the attack, which led to a lifetime ban.
Harding and her ex-husband then released a sex tape, and she did some wrestling and boxing. Few experts blamed her fall from grace on her rough upbringing and the fact that Kerrigan was always seen as more elegant. Some people are already wondering if the stunning Robbie, 25, can do her justice. Then again, Charlize Theron won an Oscar for her performance in 2003’s Monster.

Oh, just say no to this, it sounds like a bad Lifetime movie…. from 20 years ago. The story has been told, nothing to be learned or gained by rehashing. Or glamourizing Ms Harding.
