‘ Instagram photo and caption are creating a lot of controversy. Earlier this week, Salters, a Philadelphia Fire Department paramedic took to Instagram, where he posted a picture that shows two African-American men pointing guns at the head of a white police officer.

The photo is not real, it is a screenshot from the music video for the rap song entitled “Hands Up” from Uncle Murda and Maino. The song was written in honor of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, who were both killed by police officers over the summer.

Mr Salters used the caption to incite to violence. He wrote that police officers are the real enemy and added that black men need to stop pointing guns at one another. He captioned the pic:

“Our real enemies.Need 2 stop pointing guns at each other & at the ones that’s legally killing innocents.”

The photo went viral and many people took to social media to blast Salters, including Michael Anthony Nutter, the current Mayor of Philadelphia, who is the third African-American to hold the position. Nutter said in a statement:

“We celebrate the exercise of our First Amendment right to expression. But there are clear limits, and this posting went far beyond standards of decency. Inflammatory speech or behavior like this is simply irresponsible and could potentially incite others to inappropriate actions.”

Nutter has also asked Fire Commissioner Derrick Sawyer to conduct an investigation into Salters’ behavior. Sawyer has stated that if Salters shared the Instagram post while he was at work, he will be disciplined.

After getting slammed on Facebook and Instagram, Marcell Salters, who works in the same building as 19th district police, has apologized. He said:

“I would like to deeply apologize to anyone i have offended .That post was out of anger of what is going on around the world (mike brown, eric garner & etc) & past experiences that i have had with the police. My intentions was not to slander or hurt anyone or my brothers in blue. Again i am sorry.”

After saying sorry for the controversial update, Marcell Salters posted that despite the fact the he works with cops, he will never like them because most of them are crooks, corrupted people, who harass, beat, and kill black folks.

  1. He can apologize all day long, but what he did is wrong. His actions only incite other to violence. Is that what he really wants? Why not work within the legal system? I am ashamed that he let people know he is a fire department paramedic. He has sworn to save lives not promote killing.

  2. I find it very sad that this young man thought it would be amusing to post such a picture. He is very disrespectful of the people, black and white, who fought so hard in the 60’s for meaningful change in this country and disrespectful of those of us who are hoping and praying and marching again for more meaningful change. If what he did causes one person, black or white, to be harmed I hope he embraces his role in that harm. If he truly feels cops are the enemy and doesn’t understand that racism is the enemy; his and that of others, he needs to be taught that his attitude is part of the problem. Why doesn’t he do something positive to effect the change we all need?

  3. How sad it is when even when it is a known fact that the supposed witnesses for the grand jury hearing about Michael Brown were proven to be lying. That a black man has to come out with some cheap excuse to post black rap video pictures and always blame what happens to black men on white police officers.
What is even sadder is that 5% of the black community {Black entertainers, politicians, rappers, gangsters, crack dealers}dictate what the total population perceive all black people to be.
If black men are that afraid of law enforcement { there are black police officers } maybe they should reevaluate there behavior and teach
    there children for the future.
