Man Dies In Eating Contest In South Dakota

Man dies in eating contest in South Dakota during fourth July weekend. A man by the name of Walter Eagle Tail died after choking on a bun while participating in a hot dog eating contest. The freak accident prompted officials of the event to cancel the pie eating contest.

A family gathering on July 4th turned into tragedy in Custer, South Dakota after Walter Eagle Tail who was competing in a hot dog eating contest died.

Walter Eagle Tail, was competing against 5 other people in the friendly contest, when he choked on a bun and suffocated.

A person performed CPR on Tail but was unable to revive him. The 47-year-old amateur fisherman passed out which prompted several people to call 911.

But by the time the paramedics arrived on the scene Walter Eagle Tail was already dead. Custer County Sheriff Rick Wheeler explained that first aide workers attempted to save the man in vain.

Wheeler went on to share that he believes the bread got stuck in his throat and added:

“Basically, he probably just suffocated. It got lodged in his throat and they couldn’t get it out.”

The Custer Chamber of Commerce annulled the pie eating contest that was scheduled for the following day after the shocking death.

The sponsors revealed that it was the first time anyone had been injured while taking part in the Independence day event.

They are also thinking about cancelling the hot dog eating competition for good.

Many of Walter Eagle Tail’s friends spoke to the media, saying that he was a happy man who loved live.

The jeweler entered the contest as a joke and just wanted to have some fun.
