Kyle Navin, who was arrested for killing his parents – Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin, is discovering that the pair was almost penniless. On Friday, Kyle Navin and his girlfriend, Jennifer Valiante, were apprehended by Connecticut authorities for the brutal murders of Jeffrey Nevin and Jeanette Navin, who had vanished on August 4.

Navin, 27, faces two counts of murder and murder with special circumstances in the deaths of his parents. The alleged killer is currently locked up in a federal prison in Rhode Island on a weapons charge. According to the police, Valiante has also been accused of conspiracy to commit murder and hindering prosecution.

Navin’s bond was set at $2.5 million, while Valiante is being held on $2 million bail. The bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Navin were discovered on Thursday outside a vacant home in Weston. Hours before the couple disappeared, Jeanette Navin confided in a friend that she was tired of Kyle’s drug addiction and his unwillingness to grow up and had therefore taken the decision to sell their trash-hauling business and leave him without any financial support from the family.

Mrs. Navin also confessed that her husband and herself had purchased a home for their son, but he had stopped paying the mortgage hoping that they would pick up the bill. According to the police, a series of text messages between Kyle Navin and his girlfriend indicate that since July he was planning to kill his parents hoping to inherit their properties, business, and other assets. Kyle Navin allegedly wrote in one text message:

“solve every single problem and give us a wealthy amazing life.”

Jennifer Valiante’s alleged reply was:

“I hear ya. It sounds very good I just don’t know.”

Navin supposedly added:

“Wipe out the infection and get $ for life. It’s perfect plan.”

While in court, Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Dayton revealed that there were other pieces of evidence that suggested Navin killed his parents. Court documents showed:

The Navin’s pickup truck was found with a shattered window on Aug. 9 in a commuter parking lot in Westport. Jeffrey Navin, 56, was president of J&J Refuse in Westport. Jeannette Navin, 55, was a school aide in Weston. In the arrest warrant affidavit for Valiante, investigators described DNA evidence found in Kyle Navin’s truck and his basement.

On the day the parents went missing, there were several text messages exchanged between the father and the son. Jeffrey, who was worried about Jeanette Navin after not being able to reach her for several hours asked Kyle, did he hurt his mother? Here is the conversation between Jeffrey and Kyle:

The father asked his son, “did you hurt your mother?”

“No absolutely not. Why would you think,” Kyle Navin responded, according to the affidavit.

“I go home and get framed for murder,” Jeffrey Navin then texted.

“Oh stop,” Kyle Navin texted back.

Kyle’s younger brother, Taylor Navin, who lives in Mississippi, made a shocking statement to the police when he learned that his parents had vanished. He stated:

“When I heard my parents were missing I thought to myself, ‘they either went on vacation, or my brother did something to them.'”

Even if his parents did keep Kyle in their will, there was not much to inherit. The family’s financial situation was very problematic – they were in debt of $2.23 million when it came to a foreclosed mansion, and they were being sued by the utility company, Eversource, for $140,600 in unpaid electrical bills. The couple recently sold the home they had owned for 25 years and rented a small property.
