Kim Kardashian Obama Armenian genocide

Kim Kardashian hits Obama on the Armenian genocide via an op-ed that has gone viral. Just weeks after her visit to Armenia with husband, Kanye West, daughter, North West, and sister, Khloe Kardashian, Kim Kardashian has decided to speak up for her people.

The reality star, whose great-great-grandparents left Armenia in 1914, wants President Obama to officially recognize the killing of 800,000 to 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman government, which is the present-day Republic of Turkey as a genocide.

The genocide occurred during and after World War I in two phases: Massacre of men and the deportation of women, children, and the elderly in the Syrian desert.

Earlier this month, Kim Kardashian visited the country for the first time and met with President Serzh Sargsyan and Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan. Moved after being able to reconnect with her roots, the reality star, wrote:

“My sister Khloé, my daughter North, and my husband Kanye West finally went to Armenia this month. So many people have come to me and said, “I had no idea there was a genocide.” There aren’t that many Armenians in this business. We have this spotlight to bring attention to it, so why would we just sit back.”

Tuesday April 21st marked the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide and President Obama issued a statement but failed to use the word genocide in his remark. In 2008, Obama, who wanted and needed the Armenian-American vote, was singing a different tune.

Back then, he used the word “genocide” and even slammed President Bush after the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia was asked to resign for using the term Armenian Genocide. Obama stated:

“The Armenian genocide is not an allegation, a personal opinion, or a point of view, but rather a widely documented fact supported by an overwhelming body of historical evidence.”

Since taking office, Obama seems to agree with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, who claims that it is impossible to define what happened in 1915 because we were not there to witness it. Mrs. Kardashian pleaded with Obama in her piece. She stated:

“I would like President Obama to use the word “genocide.” It’s very disappointing he hasn’t used it as President. We thought it was going to happen this year. I feel like we’re close—but we’re definitely moving in the right direction.”

The mother of one went on to add that she plans to use her celebrity status and push other famous people to keep fighting for the Armenian genocide to be recognized for what it was.

  1. Bravo Kim and sister, although not a fan this is a good thing to use celebrity status to draw attention to Christian persecution. President Obama should be call out for lack of guts on this issue.
I am really impressed with Kim’s fortitude, I suspect her grandparents and great grandparents would be very proud.
