Jessica Kelly and Bonnie Moran‘s Purge-like attack has lead to the arrest of a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy by Philadelphia authorities.

On Halloween night, two friends, Jessica Kelly and Bonnie Moran, who are not gay, were walking arm-in-arm after leaving a party. Kelly and Moran were walking on Oakmont and Erdrick Streets in the Mayfair section of the city, when a group of 11 to 15 teenagers started insulting them. The mob screamed several homophobic slurs at them before physically attacking the pair. Moran said:

“We were walking arm-in-arm, like most girls do, and we hear them say, ‘Look at those ugly lesbians.’

Kelly added:

“Taunted, stalked, followed on the street and then attacked. On top of that, robbed!”

The mob of teens, kicked, beat and robbed Jessica Kelly and Bonnie Moran as they yelled “‘Purge! Purge! Do it! Do it! The Purge.” Morgan shared:

“All I kept hearing was, ‘Purge! Purge! Do it! Do it! The Purge.’

The Purge and its 2014 sequel depict a night, in which crime is legal in America for 12 hours without any consequences. Police have not confirmed whether the attackers were actually inspired by The Purge, or if it was a hate crime.

The Purge-like beatdown lasted five minutes and left Kelly with fractured ribs, while Moran suffered a concussion and injuries to her neck. While about 15 teens took part in the attack, thus far members of the Philadelphia Police Department have only made two arrests.

A 16-year girl and an 18-year-old boy have been arrested and charged with robbery, assault and related offenses. During the summer, flyers were posted in Kentucky, stating that a purge was supposed to take place.

Several schools were closed, and police were on high alert, but it turned out to be hoax. Around the same time, rumors of a purge taking place in Pennsylvania emerged, but it never materialized, that is, until Halloween night.

Philadelphia police are asking anyone who knows anything about Jessica Kelly and Bonnie Moran Purge-like attack to contact them. Anonymous tips can be made via phone (215.686.8477), text message (text to PPDTIP, or 773847).
