Gun In Carry-on Accidentally Fired : Kathleen, Georgia Man (Richard Popkin) Arrested – Despite the passage of a law in Georgia that allows people to carry guns in certain places in airports, Richard Popkin was arrested on Sunday morning after he accidentally shot a TSA screener in the face while removing his .22-caliber Magnum from his suitcase.

The incident took place at a checkpoint in Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Officer N.J. Phillips who spotted the loaded weapon contacted Richard Popkin and asked him to clear the small game pellet ammunition in the Magnum and as he was doing so, it went off grazing the left side of the police’s face.

The 43-year-old man of Kathleen, Georgia who was heading to Florida revealed that he forgot that the .22-caliber pistol was charged and explained that he carries it around to scare people off – not to kill them.

Popkin who was eventually released on bail further explained that he removed the deadly arm from his checked luggage, because he feared that the luggage would exceed the weight limit authorized by the airline.
