Fran Crippen Open Water Swimmer DEAD – The death of Fran Crippen member of the U.S. national team, while participating Saturday in an open water competition in the United Arab Emirates, shocked the world of swimming this Saturday.

The athlete died during the competition, he told his coach that after eight miles he was not feeling well, as stated by the president of the international swimming federation, Julio Maglione.

“He continued and he was found in the deep of the water,” said Maglione from Acapulco, where he is participating in an IOC assembly, he also confirmed that this is the first death in a competition of the federation and announced that an investigation is already underway.

Three other swimmers (two Americans and one Brazilian) were hospitalized after the competition.

They are reportedly in good condition.
