Josh Duggar took carpentry lessons to cure his “sexual illness,” according to new reports. When the authors of A Love That Multiplies: An Up-Close View of How They Make It WorkJim Bob and Michelle Duggar – learned the disturbing truth about their son, Josh Duggar, they did not call the police, they sent him to the controversial institute in Little Rock Arkansas.

Josh Duggar, who had confessed to sexually molesting several girls on multiple occasions, spent few weeks at The Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), which was:

established in 1964 by Bill Gothard in Illinois for the purpose of introducing people to the Lord Jesus Christ, and is dedicated to giving individuals, families, churches, schools, communities, governments, and businesses clear instruction and training on how to find success by following God’s principles found in Scripture. These goals are accomplished primarily through seminars, educational programs, printed literature, and the operation of centers to facilitate training.

While at the center, Josh Duggar was treated for his “unwise decisions” by taking part in carpentry lessons, lust counseling, private classes on Jesus’ seven stresses, which are anger, guilt, greed, business, lust, fear and envy, according to an interview of Bill Gothard with the Daily Mail.

Gothard, who retired from the center in 2014 after he was accused of sexually harassing dozens of women, gave more details on the seminar:

“Lust can have a positive or negative affect on the body depending on what it’s for. God designed us to have an attraction to the opposite sex for marriage. But whoremongers will be damaged by their own system.”

The 80-year-old said that Duggar was cured after the treatment and added:

“Once he became a Christian his conscience became more delicate and he wanted to follow and please the Lord. It was a turning point in his life. The incident happened 12 years ago and since then Joshua has lived an honorable life, that speaks for itself, he certainly learn his lesson and now he will have a whole new respect for young ladies.”

Amidst countless controversies, the institute in Arkansas is more or less closed, but Gothard claims that God’s work was still being done.

  1. If it had been a stranger that did this to the girls, would Michelle and Jim Bob sent him to get counsel or have him arrested? Also now that the girls have kids of their own I wonder what their response would be if someone touched their child?
