The Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas made its first voyage from Germany to England last week. The ship, which was constructed at the German shipyard, the Meyer Werft GmbH, arrived at its first port of call in Southampton, England on Thursday.

Harri Kulovaara, Royal Caribbean’s executive vice president for Maritime, said the following about the Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas’ debut:

“It’s a great day for us as a company. It’s a great day for the cruise industry. This is the most innovative cruise ship ever created, so we’re very proud.”

Captain Srecko “Felix” Ban will be at the helm of the vessel for an eight-night trip from England to its home port of Cape Liberty Cruise Port, Bayonne, New Jersey.

On November 14th, the cruise ship will be christened in New York. While the Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas is not as big as Allure or the Oasis of the Seas, at 168,666 tons, it still makes it on the list of the top 10 largest passenger vessels ever constructed.

The Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas can carry 4,180 guests at double occupancy and features 2,090 staterooms. Some of the attractions on the ship include, a 30-foot-high rock climbing wall, Royal Caribbean’s famous FlowRider surf simulator and a H20 Zone kids water park.

The first Smartship boasts several one-of-a-kind features like the North Star, which is a glass capsule attached to a rotating, pivoting crane-arm that can go as high as 300 feet above the ocean.

The North Star can jut out over the side of the ship while offering 360-degree views. The Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas is equipped with a RipCord by iFLY, which is the first skydiving experience at sea.

It also has a SeaPlex, the largest indoor sports and entertainment complex at sea with bumper cars and roller skating.

The vessel has Virtual Balconies that give real-time views of the ocean and a Bionic Bar powered by Makr Shakr, which features the world’s first robotic bartenders.

The Quantum of the Seas will begin sailing to the Bahamas, the Caribbean and China in May of 2015.
