Christopher Smeltzer Sentenced – On Friday Christopher Smeltzer was sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his mentally ill wife Mara Pappalardo in their family home in New Hampshire in November 2010.

Smeltzer who was out the night of the crime partying and doing drugs, returned home to find his wife who suffers from paranoia had killed their 4-year-old son with a ribbon, had tried to strangle their 7-year-old daughter Mercey with a scarf and was about to commit suicide.

Shocked by Mara Pappalardo’s actions, the 39-year-old father grabbed a flashlight and killed her with it and took several pills to put an end to his own life.

The man woke up the following day to find Mercey who he believed was dead standing next to him with the scarf still around her neck, asking for tea and wondering what happened to her mother and brother.

During the sentencing the man cried especially after hearing an audio recorded by his child asking Judge Tina Nadeau to put her dad in prison for life.

With good behavior, by attending anger management classes and by obtaining his college degree there is a possibility that Smeltzer will be out in 9 years.
