Christina Applegate Spinoff: ‘Married with Children’ Spinoff Idea Moving Forward

A Christina Applegate spinoff of FOX’s classic comedy Married…With Children is said to be coming, seventeen years after the original show ended. Is a Married…With Children spinoff featuring Applegate a real possibility?

For ten years (1987 to 1997) Married…With Children revolutionized the comedy format on television. The stars of the series have all gone to do bigger and better things.

Ed O’Neill is doing great on ABC’s Modern Family. Katey Sagal has a lead role on the critically acclaimed Sons of Anarchy, where she plays Gemma Teller Morrow, a woman who will go to great lengths to get what she wants. David Faustino has also been busy working left and right in Hollywood. Applelgate became a huge TV and movie star with roles in Anchorman and Up All Night.

Faustino and Applelgate are said to be working on a spinoff of the sitcom that made them big players in Hollywood. E! News reports that meetings have been held with bosses at Sony Pictures Television about a spinoff focusing mostly on Faustino’s character Bud Bundy.

Although nothing is yet official, Applelgate did discuss the possibility of something happening, when she spoke to E! News last week at Sagal’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. The Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues actress said:

“We’re going to do something with Dave maybe. I don’t know if it will be in character. But I don’t really know. I don’t know what that’s going to be. I don’t know if I’m allowed to speak on that at all. So I should probably stop talking about it right now!”

If the Married…With Children spinoff moves forward, it will be hard to see O’Neill being part of it, since he signed to another network. Sagal could become available after the end of Sons of Anarchy in December.

Most fans welcomed the idea, but are not sure how the new sitcom can be strong without the great Al Bundy. Few dissdent voices claim that Bud was not interesting enough to have his own spinoff.
