Chicago Teen Fired Cancer: Jonathan Larson Says He Was Fired For Cancer

Was a Chicago teen fired due to cancer surgery? The answer seems to be yes. A Chicago teen by the name of Jonathan Larson, claimed that he was fired from his job as a delivery driver from Naperville’s Rosebud Restaurant because he needed 6 weeks off as part of his cancer treatment.

Was a Chicago teen fired because of his cancer treatment? Apparently, yes. Jonathan Larson is making some disturbing accusations. The 19-year-old man stated that after telling his boss at the Naperville’s Rosebud Restaurant that he needed some time off for his cancer surgery, he was fired.

The teenager, who is battling cancer of the brain and spine, explained that after asking for the 6 weeks off for back surgery, he was let go on the spot. After making the request, he was also told by his insensitive employer that he will rapidly find another driver to replace him.

Talking to Chicago media, the teen said:

“My manager said, ‘No, by that time I’ll already have another driver hired. Just leave, I have to make some phone calls.I’m really disappointed and saddened by it. It’s not something I can help.”

Larson, who is saddened by his manager’s decision, revealed that standing for a few minutes can be painful because radiation has weakened his spine and bones. He also shared that every day he is fighting for his life.

A Rosebud spokesperson issued a statement, where they explained that they can not comment and went on to add that they are investigating the matter. The statement read:

“We are thoroughly investigating this matter to determine if our processes and protocols were appropriately followed Rosebud proudly serves the Chicagoland community and considers it our mission to treat all employees fairly.”

Larson concluded the interview by confessing that he hopes that his employer will say sorry for his behavior. The teenager stated:

“I would love an apology.It would go a long way to make me feel better about the situation.”

  1. Yep. Happened to me. Came home from a lumpectomy (which ended up as breast cancer), and received a phone call from my employer telling me that they’d placed an ad in the paper for my position. When I told them that I felt fine, they said that since I wasn’t the “picture of health” (I worked in a chiropractic clinic), they felt it was best to let me go.
    Nice.
    FMLA didn’t come into play because there were only five of us, including two doctors.

  2. So, this jerk expects his employer to give him 6 weeks off, hire another person to take his place, and fire the new person when this jerk feels like going back to work. If he has back surgery, he will need more than 6 weeks to recoup. And, with cncer, he may be dead by then.
