Chelsea Clinton salary scandal is bad news for NBC, what about Hillary? Several sources have revealed Chelsea Clinton’s salary while working for NBC – the former first daughter earned $600K per year despite the fact that she rarely appeared on air.
In 2011 Chelsea Clinton joined NBC as a special correspondent for the now cancelled nightly show Rock Center with Brian Williams.
After a three-month trial period, the only child of former President Bill Clinton and former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton signed a lucrative deal with the peacock network for $600K annually.
While Mrs Marc Mezvinsky was getting paid more money than the last two editors of the New York Times, she was rarely seen on the little screen.
Mrs Clinton-Mezvinsky did a handful of assignment for Rock Center (the show was canceled in June 2013) – where sometimes she was not visible on screen with television viewers only hearing her voice.
The 34-year-old who received a Doctorate of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in May last appeared on the television network in January for a brief segment.
Asked for a comment on Clinton’s high salary, a spokesperson for NBC said that they do not speak about their staff members and added:
“We don’t comment on details of existing contracts.NBC News continues to enjoy a wonderful working relationship with Chelsea, and we are proud of her work.”
They were also mum on how much George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna Bush Hager makes as a correspondent on the “Today” show.
According to Politico, NBC has decided to now give Chelsea Clinton a month-to-month contract in order to make it easy for them to let her go if her mother Hillary Clinton eventually announces her second run for the White House – all seems (the Monica Lewisky piece, the book tour, the countless interviews and Bill staying quiet and behaving well) to indicate that the former first lady is preparing to become the first female president of the United States.
No one knows how much the special correspondent for NBC News is earning on a monthly basis.
Chelsea Clinton who is due to have her first child for husband Marc Mezvinsky also works for the Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative.
The revelation of Chelsea Clinton’s $600K salary has created a heated debate in the media.
Many news outlets are stunned by what they called “rich and famous kids” getting great posts just because their parents have connections in high places while hard working reporters struggle to make a name for themselves.
