A cheerleader death in Louisville, Ky, is being investigated. According to police, Dani Cogswell, probably died of a drug overdose.

A popular cheerleader, named Danielle Cogswell was found dead in her Louisville, Kentucky apartment on Monday morning.

Cogswell’s passing, shocked an entire community. It left many, searching for a plausible answer since foul play was never suspected.

Although Cogswell’s toxicology results, will not be available before at least 60 days, police now have clues regarding the cause of death.

The Louisville cheerleader death is now being investigated as a possible drug overdose. Officials linked to the Louisville Metro police, said on Wednesday that Cogswell, 22, likely died from a drug overdose.

Some people, were surprised by the turn of events, because they thought cheerleaders used to go through rigorous drug testing like college athletes. This is not the case, cheerleading is not handled by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), so it does not have to follow the same rules as student-athletes.

Dani Cogswell’s death has gone viral, with many people who knew her, taking to the internet to pay homage and share their sorrow.

Drew Malone, her rumored boyfriend, used the hashtag #RIPDani, to write: “Lost of words. Heart is heavy.”

Cogswell’s death, will certainly ignite a debate about the future of cheerleading, at universities around the country.

Some are arguing, that new policies should be put in place to prevent something like that from happening again in the future.

The University of Louisville, is already looking at ways to offer more support and counseling moving forward.

Some of the commentators, following this tragic story believed that the media should have waited before putting out the drug overdose theory.

  1. My son David died of an intentional Heroin overdose on October 30. I am devastated. I do not understand why the people who sell these drugs are not prosecuted. And why can’t there be some kind of control over the abundance of these drugs!? It’s reached epidemic, crisis proportions! My life will never be the same. I will grieve forever for my precious son! There has not been a day since he died on October 30th that I haven’t cried. Getting out of bed is a major chore and huge accomplishment each day!

  2. She was a drug addict. The cheerleading coach at UofL and FCHS is a dealer who sells to the cheerleaders to keep them thin. Todd Sharp is garbage.
