Bill De Blasio Endorses Hillary Clinton For President

Bill de Blasio, a former campaign manager for Hillary Clinton, has finally announced that he is endorsing her in her bid to become president of the United States. De Blasio broke the news amid terrible poll numbers that show the people of New York view him as a failure.

After a slew of bad polls, Bill de Blasio is trying to change the conversation by announcing his endorsement of his former boss, Hillary Clinton. On Friday morning, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio made an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe where he tackled many topics including the state of his city, President Barack Obama‘s controversial trade deal and why he took so long to back Mrs. Clinton.

Many were baffled by the fact that de Blasio, who managed Clinton’s Senate campaign in 2000 to represent New York, failed to support her when she announced her candidacy. De Blasio, who kept a very close relationship with the 67th United States Secretary of State, was later asked why did he decline to back her sooner.

He revealed that unlike New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who endorsed Clinton in April, he needed to know her position on certain tough issues. Back then, he explained why he would not automatically support Clinton’s candidacy by saying:

“I think she’s one of the most qualified people to ever run for this office and, by the way, thoroughly vetted. But we need to see the substance.”

It appears that he has gathered all the data he needed because he told the cast of Morning Joe that she is ready for the job and added:

“The candidate who I believe can fundamentally address income inequality effectively, the candidate who has the right experience and the ability to get the job done is Hillary Clinton.”

De Blasio said that he is satisfied with her vision on the issue of income inequality and stated:

“I have seen her vision and her platform develop over five months.I’m extremely pleased with what she’s put on the table but she has a history of fighting on issues that convinces me.”

He went on to praise the Democratic front-runner for fighting against health insurance companies and for working on the Children’s Defense Fund. Bill De Blasio is hoping his endorsement will give him some positive headlines after a series of polls revealed that 61% voters disapprove of the way he is handling homelessness and crime in the Big Apple.

A majority of New Yorkers also say that the quality of life has worsened since de Blasio took office. Only 28% said the politician was doing a good job. There is more bad news for De Blasio, 48% of those surveyed said he should not be re-elected, and 46% disapprove of his job performance.
